Heavy-duty wear ring provides protection against intrusive milling fines that cause abrasive wear. The enlarged centering cone on the bottom side of the heavy-duty wear ring stabilizes the cutter bit in the toolholder bore resulting in less upper bore wear. Less cutter bit wobble also reduces contamination of the toolholder bore with abrasive milling fines. The Twin-Stop spring clip and heavy-duty wear ring pro-vide a complete wear barrier between the rotating cutter bit and the stationary toolholder.

optimized systems for bits and toolholders Toolholders are highly stressed components. Almost the entire engine power is converted into cutting performance via the toolholders. When cutting through extremely hard mate-rials, a toolholder must withstand up to fi ve million load cycles during its service life and guarantee optimum rotation of the bits. That is why Wirtgen engineers attach particular importance to using extremely wear-resis-tant materials and optimally designed tool-holder systems.

setting standards in toolholder systemsInstead of welding the toolholders onto the drum as in older machines, Wirtgen’s con-cept was to develop holders which could be replaced quickly and easily. The fi rst gener-ation of Wirtgen quick-change toolholders was ready for series production in 1992 and ensured that worn or damaged toolholders could be replaced in a matter of minutes: on site and without requiring torching, grinding and welding. The cash value of this advan-tage was immediately appreciated by the contractors. In addition to being easy to re-place, the Wirtgen quick-change toolholder systems are characterized by a long ser-vice life, thanks to the elimination of welds and the use of high-quality materials. The success of Wirtgen’s unique quick-change toolholder systems is due not only to the detailed theoretical analysis and computer simulations, but also to exhaustive practical tests by customers on innumerable sites and in extreme special jobs.

top quality manufacturingThe operating costs of road milling machines and recyclers are largely deter-mined by the service life of the tools subject to wear, meaning the bits and the toolholders. Consequently, these parts must meet the highest quality require-ments. Manufacturing by the forging method makes it possible to process quality materials at relatively low cost and achieve extremely high component strengths. Tight tolerances are maintained by subsequent machining to make the precision components required for milling applications such as fi ne milling. Subsequent heat treatment and hardening of the toolholders is of critical importance. Special methods are used for this step as well, in order to obtain high hardness for low wear, and the necessary toughness. Only in this way can a long service life be achieved under the highly dynamic loads generated by the milling process.

The quick-change toolholder system HT22 is characterised primarily by an increased wear resistance. The system’s especially long service life makes itself apparent on the construction site by a considerable reduction of the replacement intervals. A characteris-tic feature is the prismatic arranged contact surface.

The seals between the upper and bottom part ease disassembly. Wirtgen furthermore offers a lubricating grease which protects the quick-change tool holder from corrosion.

Convenient replacement, fast servicing With the HT11 quick-change toolholder system, Wirtgen has engineered a field-proven solution for road milling machines and recyclers making the operation and ser-vicing of the machines more convenient, faster and thus more profitable. Enlarging the contact surface of the upper part to completely cover that of the bottom part ensures a tight fit between the two. A seal prevents dirt particles from entering the gap between the upper part and the bottom part during the milling operation.

Upper part HT11-R for improved tool rotationOptimum rotation of the cutting tools is often impaired by material soiling the toolholder’s drill hole. With the upper part type HT11-R, the fine particles of milled ma-terial are flushed from the drill hole via a recess at the back of the upper part. The bit is essentially prevented from sticking in the bore and the bit can be used for a significantly longer period of time due to the improved rotation. Easier access with the Wirtgen ejector tools makes life even simpler.

The HT11 quick-change toolholder system simplifies operation and maintenance of the milling drum: In designing the HT11 quick-change toolhol-der system, priority was given to simple ope-rational and reliable maintenance techniques after rough use on the job. The result is simple components that guarantee long service life for all wear parts and the entire milling drum. As with the HT3 quick-change toolholder sys-tem, just a few parts are needed to equip a wide variety of milling drums.

Cleats• Fully molded into the belt cover: That is, the cleats and cover are one unit. This proven

production method prevents cleats from peeling away from the cover, which can take place when uncured cleats are vulcanized to a cured belt cover.

• Aggressive 1” high cleats spaced at 10” apart increase production capacity, withstand abrasion, enhance belt life, and protect the top cover of the belt.

• 1” high integrally molded rubber side curbs are available.

Splice• Conventional styles of conveyor belting usually fail in the splice area, which is typically the

weakest part of the belt. Our special splicing techniques developed from years of expe-rience result in a virtually seamless joint that withstands even the toughest applications.

• Tests show that the Rhino splice is up to 40% stronger than conventional splices in stan-dard rubber belting.

• Rhino’s one-piece construction, where cleats, cover, fabric, and splice are manufactured as a single unit, provides the industry’s most durable and productive belt.

• Optional super screw flexible joint lasts as long as field vulcanized joints.
