The background goes from a light grey to a dark grey. This makes it look like the light is on lady gaga making her stands out more.

A barcode is at the bottom of the magazine cover, this is not important to the audience.

This is the slogan that is on every ‘Billboard’ magazine. It makes the magazine sound better and makes people want to buy it.

The title Billboard is large and takes up the top of the magazine. It is covered by lady gaga’s head. The typeface is in a sans serif, this is so it doesn’t look too formal. It is the iconic font that is used on every billboard magazine.

Lady gaga’s hair is a lilac colour and this is carried through the cover. It links it all up making it look more interesting. There is a mixture of serif and sans serif The colour scheme on the magazine is quite neutral. The cell lines are in shades of greys, lilac, white and black are used to keep it consistent.

Contents page is split in two sections by a blue line. One side is the music charts of that week. It is in a plain grey background, it doesn’t really stand out but it is a contrast to the other colours drawing our attention to it.

The contents is spilt up by sub headings in a bright blue. The contrast of the bright blue text on the white background makes it stand out As they are separated it makes it easier for the audience to find certain pages. The page is split up by bright blue lines. This

sections it off so it is easier to find certain parts.

The double spread page is dominated by the main image is of the artist ‘Rihanna’ it is an ELS as you can see her, and a lot of the background. It takes up a lot of the double page taking up a lot of the space across. The audience’s attention is drawn to it straight away. She is sitting on a bright pink tank creating a contrast of what it is used for (in wars) and what she is (a performance, pink to show off).

The heading is in a bold, large typeface, it stands out grabbing the audience’s attention. It is in a sans serif style so it doesn’t look formal, ideal for the young adult target audience.

There are two images in the article to make it more appealing, there is a lot of copy so the image breaks it up. This could be appropriate for the target audience as they don’t want to see a page of writing.

The colour scheme used is pink, black and white. The pink used gives it a feminine look and the contrast of the black gives it a rock look (the same as the image).

Pull quote: the copy here is blown up so it is larger and bolder this is so it attracts the audience. Pink is used to highlight certain words to empathise them and attract the reader.

Typical look - in columns going across pages. The amount of copy is quite overwhelming when you first look at it. It is broken up by images, quotes and captions.

The ‘V’ on the background symbolises the magazines name ‘Vibe’. It keeps in with the house style.

The heading is staggered into three lines. It looks disjointed and strange.

It is in a large, bold typeface, it stands out from the grey

MCU of Kanye West, he is looking straight at the camera therefore the people looking at the magazine, this draws them in and makes them look at the magazine.He takes up most of the cover because if people see him them they may want to buy the magazine just to read about him, therefore an important aspect to the cover.His facial expressions and the way he’s looking at the camera create a domineering feeling.

The cell lines on the cover are in three colours, blue, pink and black. This keeps it simple yet stands out.They tell the audience what is inside the magazine making them want to buy it.The blue is picked up from Kanye West’s jacket making it look consistent.They are all sans serif so it looks less formal, perfect for their teenage audience

The mast heading is large and bold to make it stand out. It is the same blue as Kanye West’s jacket. This keeps in with the colour scheme making it look better.

The copy is in a variety of sizes, it makes it look fun and makes certain words stands out. The contrast of the pale grey and bright copy make the cell lines stand out a lot.

The background is a pale grey, it doesn’t distract the audience from the image or copy. It looks like a light is shining from the font because of the shadow, it makes Kanye West stand out and seem the main focus.

Sky Line - This tells the audience what is in the magazine. It might be the best parts because it is at the top of the magazine so the audience see it first. Blue and pink copy is used within the sky line to draw attention to it. Exclusive – buzz word

A MS of Kanye West, he is looking straight at the camera so it is direct address to the audience. He looks like he is in quite a casual pose. His facial expressions are quite serious and domineering. It is black and white so it gives it a different and original look.The only colour is the heart the lady is holding to the his chest.

The overall look of the contents page is quite simple yet effective. No colour is used apart from the bright red heart, a complete contrast to the front cover.

At the side all of the pages are listed. sub headings are used to split up the words. It makes it easier to and certain stories and looks better.

The copy is in a serif, it looks quite formal. It is a complete opposite to the front cover where the copy was all different colours and sans serif

The magazine has a young adult target audience, this contents page may not appeal to them because it is quite dull. Not a lot of colour is used so it doesn’t look exciting.

LS of ‘Solange Knowles’ this means we see all of her body. All the other images of her are in grey whereas she is in a bright red dress, this makes her stand out catching our attention. She is looking straight at the camera so it is direct address.

Along the top of the page various images of Solange Knowles are shown. It is in black and white giving it an almost glamorous look. By the poses she is doing she is portrayed as a fun and energetic person.

A pull quote has been used to show what she has said in the article. If the reader is flicking through and sees’s this quote they will want to read the whole article. It is in a bold typeface to make it stand out to catch the audience’s attention.

The sub heading is in a large typeface which draws our attention to it. Her name is in bright blue and bold to make it stand out so the audience see it. It is in a sans serif style so it is not formal, ideal for the young adult audience.

The page is split by a boarder of 5 lines. This separates it and draws attention to both parts.

Three very well known artists taking up a lot of the magazine cover. LS and a slight low angle shot, it makes them look in power and important. Jay-Z at the front is standing in a dominant pose. Lady Gaga and Dave Grohl, you only see half of them behind. They cover part of the mast head and copy so the audience see them first. They are the main selling point because if people see them then they may be more inclined to buy the magazine.

Mast head: large square with the letter ‘Q’ on it, it stands out and is a recognisable logo. Even though it is covered you can tell its ‘Q’ by the iconic design.

Cover line- artists names are in a large bold type face, it stands out and the names will draw audiences in. The orange colour stands out from the rest of the copy

The quote copy is in bold black typeface making it standout. When the audience read it they will want to know the rest of the story

Sky Line - ‘exciting people’ make it sound really good so people will want to buy it. It is at the top so the audience will see it first.

Names of other well known artists are in an orange box so it draws the audience to it. It the audience see their favourite artist they will want to buy the magazine.

Small barcode at the bottom, it is less important to the audience so doesn’t need to be seen by them

Issue number and date

The contents itself is split into sections under sub headings. This makes it easier for the audience to find specific pages.

A variety of copy sizes and type face is used. The numbers are in read so it stands out and differentiates from the rest of the copy.Some parts are in bold to make it stand out, whilst some is small.

The image has a white box in it which tells the audience what page it is. It is a main story so the audience need to see it.

They use the same house style to keep it consistent (red, white and black).Small section at the

bottom of the page. A unique aspect of music review. The audience is drawn to it.

The contents has a ‘Oasis Special’ in gold copy, this connotates the feeling of it being special and a must see.

The overall look of the magazine looks quite organised. It is not overcrowded everything fits in nicely.

The background is plain being white, the contrast of this and the coloured copy makes it stand out a lot making it look dramatic. The main image of people stands out and the light shining on them makes them look important.

The colour scheme on this page is bright blue, black and white. It is quite simple but the bright blue stands out from the other two colours.

Page numbers in a black box so it stands out.

Main image is a LS of the band Razor light, this means we can see all of them as well as the background. The image takes up most of one page. If a person flicks through and sees an image of this band they will want to read the whole article.

Another image smaller than the other is a MCU of one of the band members. It is direct address as he is looking straight at the reader, drawing you in. His facial expressions look quite serious.

The copy on this page is all in a sans serif typeface, this makes it look less formal and easier to read.

Some parts of the copy are in a bold typeface, this is to make it stand out from the other text drawing attention to it

The colour scheme on the magazine cover are mainly pink, black, white and blue. They match with what Rhianna is wearing and her eye shadow, this makes it all link in and look dramatic. The background is simple, (grey) so it doesn’t distract the audience from the copy and image. It looks like the light is shining on Rhianna focusing on her.

Slogan: ‘new musical express’, sounds like it is the best place to find out about new music

Special edition: makes the magazine sound like it is better than previous ones, making people want to buy it.

Three main colours used on the contents page, red, white and black. They are all contrasts to each other so stand out a lot. It creates a dramatic look

The overall look of this contents page is quite busy, a lot of information is on it. It looks slightly crowed because of the amount of copy on it, the audience do not know where to look first.

The contents its self is split by subtitles, They are in a black box making them stand out and the copy is white so it stands out further.

Promotional aspect: They are telling the audience about the subscription available. It is the first page they see so will take notice. They have positioned it in a black box so it draws the audience’s attention to it.

Makes it sound like it is the best place to find gig information.

Original house style for ‘NME’ name. It is positioned at the top of the page in a large black box. It stands out and makes a big impression on the audience.

A unique aspect to the magazine, they list all the bands in the magazines and put a page number next to it. This means the audience can easily find the band they want.

All the copy is bold, in capitals and sans serif. This gives it an informal, dramatic look, appropriate for the young adult teenage audience.

Main image takes up the whole of the first page drawing a lot of attention to it. It is an action shot of a live event as she isn’t posing. It is a LS so we see all of her and the background of the studio.

Lots of images are used at the side to make it look interesting. It draws the audience in making them want to read the article.

Heading: In a large and bold typeface to make it stand out. It is in a sans serif so it is less formal ideal for the target audience. It is positioned at the top nearly in the centre, we instantly look her so we see the title.

‘Live’ is used on the images to tell the audience they were taken when they were performing.

The colour scheme here is black, white and pink. Pink lighting is used in one of the images so they have picked up on it and used it in the copy.

Cell lines at the side of magazine, the typeface is black and some parts bold. This divides the stories up so the audience is drawn to them.

The cover line is in large copy. It stands out making people want to buy the magazine.It is in a sans serif style making it look less formal ideal for the teenage audience.

The mast head ‘Blender’ is covered by Taylor Swift and a cover line. The audience cannot see the mast heading well this may be because the name its self is not a selling point. Taylor Swift may be more of a selling point so they have made sure she is the focus point.

The sky line goes across the top of the magazine, this is so the audience see it first. Part of it is bold (artist name) so the audience see it. It gives an insight to what is in the magazine making some people buy it.

The background is plain white, this makes everything else stand out. The contrast of bright blue on white makes it stand out and draw the young audience in.

The title ‘contents’ is in the exact type face as the mast heading on the front page. Part of it is hidden by the mushroom. It is in quite a bubbly fun copy appropriate for the target audience.

The look of this contents page is quite simple, not a lot of colour is used it looks plain. This could be so the audience’s attention is not distracted from image.

Here is a cell line, it is a quote from Katy Perry. It gives the audience an insight into what the article of her is about. They are drawn to this because of the image. This will make them want to read this story first.

The contents page is in a very small copy compared to the rest of the objects on the page. It is not the first thing the audience see.The content is split up by sub titles which divide the articles up. This makes it easier for the audience to find a particular article.

The look of this double spread is good, it is not crowded, there’s not too much copy and it’s spaced out well.

The colour scheme here is mainly white, black and blue. It is simple so the audience is not distracted from the main article and images.

The double page spread is dominated by two images, this one is a LS of a band. They take up the majority of the page drawing attention to them. They are looking straight at the camera drawing the audience in.

Heading ‘blender’ is in exactly the same type face as the mast heading is on the front cover. This keeps a consistent house style.

Another large image dominates the article. It makes it more interesting so it isn’t just a page of copy. It is a ELS because we can see them and a lot of the background. Where they are is a big house and an expensive car this connotates a sense of glamour

Captions in the form of cell lines are used to tell the reader about the images

Conventional layout; columns

Sub titles are used to tell the audience what the article is about. The typeface in are and bold so it can easily be identified. Colours have also been used to attract the reader.

The colour scheme used in this magazine cover is blue, red and white, it makes it look consistent and mimilist.

The mast heading ‘Rolling Stone’ is almost all cover by the main image. Some effects have been used so the type face looks 3-D and impressive. It is an iconic type face used on all rolling stone magazines.

Amy Winehouse is in a large type face. It is in a pale blue yet the contrast of the white makes it stand out. It is in a sans serif style making it look a bit formal, ideal for the older target audience

The copy used throughout the cover is in a sans serif style, this gives is a formal and old school look, ideal for the older audience. Most of the copy has had effects put on them to make it stand out and look almost 3-D.

The cell lines at the side of the cover are in a bold typeface, it makes them stand out. These give the audience an insight into what is in the magazine has inside therefore have to stand out.

The cover line ‘Summer Tours’ is in a larger typeface then the other copy. This makes it stand out above everything else. Tours are what everybody wants to know therefore by them seeing this cover line it may make them more inclined to buy the magazine.

This object here looks like it is a sicker stuck on the front. It draws the audience to it because it doesn’t look like it’s meant to be there.

The product date and price is discreetly positioned at the top corner as it is not the first thing the audience need to see.

The look of this magazine is very simple. A main heading, images and contents. The colour scheme is red and white, it makes it look original appropriate for the target audience.

The heading ‘contents’ is in a thick red stripe along the top of the page. This draws the audience in. The typeface is serif, Large, white and in capitals. This makes it stand out. The serif copy is carried through from the cover to contents page keeping it consistent with the old school look.

The contents itself is well spread out taking up half the page. Each section is separated by sub headings and a thin black line. This makes it look more appealing. Each section has little headings in bold so the audience know that is the article white the red capitals tell the audience what section they are under.

Images are used to attract the audience and make them want to read a particular article. Here three different images are used with the page number positioned in large copy at the bottom. When the audience see this they will most probably flick to the page. The copy used he is

exactly the same as the front cover, serif and some in capitals. It creates a bold impact on the reader giving it an edgy look. This keeps within the iconic house style of ‘Rolling Stone’

Here reference is made about the images on the front cover. It is not so important for the reader so it is positioned at the bottom so we see it last.

The institutions name and the date are shown here. This is so the audience know they are reading the latest magazine.

The look of this double spread looks original and rustic. It is quite simple yet effective. The colour scheme is brown and white.

The heading for this article is in a very large and bold typeface. It stands out from the brown background. The copy here is in sans serif, it gives it an original look that’s very effective.

The main image takes up the whole of the double spread and is the background. Johnny Depp looks quite relaxed and it is direct address as he is looking at the audience drawing them in.

The writers and photographers name is acknowledged at the bottom.

The article its self is positioned around Johnny Depp so it doesn’t clash. A graphic pattern holds the copy together and makes it look more appealing.

The copy is all in sans serif to keep with the house style.

The lighting is dim to create a realist look.

This is a high angle shot of the band ‘Paramore’ as they are looking up and us looking down. It adds a strange dimension to the look of the magazine drawing you in.They are positioned in the centre so they go across the cover. The light is shining down on them making them stand out.

Sky Line – this tells the audience what is inside the magazine. It may make them want to buy the magazine. As it is at the top the audience will see it first.

The mast heading ‘Rock Sound’ is in a large and bold typeface. However it is covered by images and copy so it doesn’t stand out as much as it could.Sans serif font has been used to keep the look informal.

‘Free CD’ is in a bright yellow so the audience see it. It is a promotional aspect so the audience have to see it.

Cover Line – ‘Paramore’This is in a bold, large type face. It stands out catching audience’s attention. If they see paramour they may buy the magazine. It is in a serif style unlike the rest of the copy, this could be so it looks more exciting with the

This looks like a jumble of words. This could be a good thing because it draws the audience to it and if they see their favourite artists name they may buy the magazine. However it makes the magazine look messy, this could turn people off the magazine. Barcode in the

corner. Tells audience the price.

I don’t like the look of this contents page, it’s quite dark.

The title of the magazine is in a bold typeface that stands out, the contrast of the black and white makes it stand out further. The date and issue number is shown aswell to ensure the audience has the most up to date issue.

A pull quote has been used, it doesn’t really stand out because it’s on top of image. By reading it, it may make the audience want to read the article it came from.

The contents is not very good. It hasn’t been divided by subtitles so you have to read each one in order to find a page you want. The white copy does stand out from the black background. Red has been used for the page numbers however it is a dark red and doesn’t stand out on the black background.

This doesn’t stand out because it is positioned half on the black background and half of the man’s arm. This makes it difficult for the ‘Main Features’ to stand out.

The main image is of a man, it is a MS at a slight high angle. He takes up most of the page drawing attention to him. He is looking at the audience so it is direct address.

The copy is a mixture of serif and sans serif style. It makes it look mixed up and out there. Just like rock music is.

This double spread page is taken up by two images. There is hardly any copy on the page.

This image is a low angle shot of the band Paramore. This shot makes them look empowered. This image takes up the whole of one page. They are looking straight at the camera to draw them in.

Rock Sound logo is positioned at the bottoms of the page to keep the house style consistant.

The second image is positioned the wrong way, this adds a strange dimension to the look of the page. Again it is a low angle shot making them look empowered. It is a direct address drawing us in.

The article its self is not a conventional layout. It is not in columns but a large paragraph. In a way this is good because if it was in columns on this page it wouldn’t look right.

The colour scheme on this page is quite dull mainly back and white. It creates a dull look.

The band name ‘Paramore’ is in a large typeface, it stands out a lot. The contrast of the white text on the dull image attracts our attention. As the reader is flicking through they will see this name and want to read the article

The copy is all sans serif to keep it consistent. It keeps the look informal ideal for the young adult audience.

‘XXL’ is on a bright red box to draw attention to it. It is in a very bold and large typeface to make it stand out and look impressive.

Slogan, at the top so the audience see it. It makes the magazine sound even better.

The main image is the artist Jay – Z, it is a low angle shot to show his importance and makes him look empowered. This pose and facial expressions make him look domineering.

Cell lines - makes the audience want to buy the magazine to read about Jay-Z. Other names like ‘Beyonce’ will attract audience and make them want to buy it.

Cover line – JAY-Z. this name is in a bold and large typeface, it stands out a lot. It is kind of transparent because you can see the background, it adds an impressive look to it.

Barcode positioned at bottom of cover so not much attention is drawn to it. The price is here.

The colour scheme here is white and red. The red is a domineering colour matching Jay-Z’s look.

More cell lines are used to attract audiences to make them buy it. Other famous names are used here to make it look like a good magazine.

The background is of a city like New York. Jay-Z has been made so he is taller than the buildings. This makes him look powerful. The pale grey/white of the bulidings makes everything else stand out, especially Jay-Z in his black out fit.

The lighting is shining onto Jay-Z as if it is coming from the sky he is in. It empathises his importance.

The XXL logo is used here to keep the look of the magazine consistent.

‘The A side’ is in bold and large type face. It stands out a lot and we read it straight away.

The date of the issue is here in bold to ensure we see it and know it is up to date.

One whole page is taken up by a band member’s image. It is a MS shot, he is looking at the camera to draw the audience in. He is standing in quite a casual pose with his hands in his pocket.

The main image is of two rappers. It is a MS, they are looking straight at the camera to draw the audience in. 50 Cent’s facial expressions is quite serious. While Solja boy’s is not.

The contents itself is good. Each article has a subtitle in bold so we can tell. The page numbers a big which look good. However it has not been split up which means the reader would have to read everything to find a certain page.

The copy is all sans serif so it doesn’t look too formal and boring. This is ideal for the target audience.

The colour scheme is red, black and white. They are quite domineering colours, like these two artists look.

The background is white so it doesn’t distract the reader. The image has not background as it has been cut away giving it a stylish look and fits in nicely.

It is in the iconic font that is on every Kerrang magazine to keep the house style consistent.Some added effects have been put on the copy to make it look like the word has been smashed.
