FRONT COVER

Barcode/date/price/issue-All in keeping with magazine conventions, all this information is within the right third.

Masthead- the masthead uses bold, block, sans serif letters so it stands out. It uses no colour using white to stand out against the yellow background. The masthead takes up about a fifth of the page.

The footer- advertises the other artist included in the magazine not mentioned on the cover already. Telling you more about what is inside and giving you more reasons to buy. Uses alternate colours by using red and white so you can clearly read it.

Main cover line- Uses yellow bold font stands out against the image and stays to the colour scheme.

Main cover image- the image stays to conventions as the eyes are just in the top third. The person is looking straight at the camera and therefore looking straight at the reader. He is also stood straight and not tilting he’s head. The shot type is medium close up.

Cover lines- uses red font colour for the detail of the article the cover line is talking about. Uses black for the main line to standout against the yellow background and red font.

The header- used simple sans serif bold block font so that the advert stands out.

This cover stick to a colour scheme of using only yellow and red with black and white. All the font uses on the cover is sans serif.

Barcode/date/price/issue- these all stay to magazine conventions and are all within the right third of the magazine.

Masthead- the masthead ‘NME’ uses bold block letters and does not use any colour so it stands out from the image.

Main cover line – the main line ‘Florence’ uses bold block letters in a san serif font, like the masthead. This makes the main line standout from the other cover lines. Includes a quote from the article to make you want to know more about what say is talking about. The font uses for this is a serif font so it stands out from the main line and it is also in white so it stands out from the image.

Cover lines- title line bold block sans serif font. Lists other artists included in the magazine, in serif font so they look different from the title line. All in white so stands out from the image/background (her red hair).

Selling line- ‘new musical express’ tells you something extra about the magazine. What the nme stands for.

Main image- this is the only image on this cover. The image stays to conventions and has the eyes in the top third of the cover. She is also looking straight at the camera and therefore at the reader. The colour of Florence’s hair (red) and her eyes (green) are the only colours used on the cover so they standout. The shot is a close up.

The magazine sticks to using only white and black and only has colour within the image.

Advert- included in the top third of the cover. Shows that this magazine is a special edition and different giving the customer more reason to buy it.

FRONT COVER

Barcode/date/issue/price- these are all within the right third and stick to normal magazine conventions.

Masthead- the masthead uses no colour by having white and black text. The font is san serif giving it a less formal look.

Main cover line- the main cover line is bold and the lettering has a coloured outline to make it standout.

Cover lines- the cover switch between blue and white so they standout from each other and from the image in the background

The header- this header is advertising other articles within the magazine without giving anything away make you curious and want to buy/read it. The header uses bright colours like the rest of the cover and sticks to the colour scheme (blue, yellow, purple).

Pug- ‘Plus!’ this is used to bring your attention to the footer which lists other bands that are featured in the magazine.

Main image- the main image of the girl band is a long shot. The eye line of all the girls is not in the top third breaking normal conventions. However all five of the girls are looking straight at the camera and therefore the readers of the magazine. This image is where there is most colour of the cover and grabs your attention.

The cover sticks to a colour scheme and only uses yellow, purple and blue.

Images- this cover includes other images as well as the main image. These are used to give you more information about the other articles included in the magazine.

The main image used is a long shot. The other image used on the page is also a long shot.

The content page stays to the rule of thirds.

Page numbers

Date and issue number.

Headings- help to find what you want. The regular features to this monthly magazine and the one offs.

Magazine logo.

Pull quote used from the article the image is for.

This page sticks to a colour scheme as it only uses red text. Along with white and black.

The main image used is a medium length shot of the band. The other images use a selection of close ups, medium, medium and medium long shots.

The content page stays to the rule of thirds however not completely.

Comment from the editor and introduction to the magazine.

Page numbers added to the images to help find articles on the people you want quicker.

This page sticks to sans serif fonts throughout.

Uses pull quotes along with the pictures for the articles.

The content page stays to the rule of thirds splitting the images and text into three columns.

Headings- to show different sections of the magazines.

Serif font used

This contents page does not have a main image and as more images for different articles. The images have page numbers to show what article they are for. They also have headings.

Advert

The page sticks to a colour scheme of yellow and red.

DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD

Drop cap- the article starts with a drop cap ‘D’. This brings your attention to the beginning of the article so you start to read.

Byline/Picture Credit – tells you the photographer and the journalist of the article.

Headline- uses a lyric from the artist.

Image- the image is a full body shot and the image takes up all of the first page of the article.

Standfirst- tells you a briefly what the article is about and who it is about. ‘Florence Welch’ is done in a different colour so that it stands out and you can see clearly and easily who the article is about.

Pull quote – a quote taken from the article that stands out from the rest. Gives an idea of what is included in the article.

Image- the image of The Black Eyed Peas is a long shot of all four members. The image takes up three quarters of the double page. The colours used in the image are the same has those used within the article. (Gold and silver/grey)

The whole article sticks to a scheme of colours. Gold/brown and silver/grey with white and black. The image also stays to this scheme.

Headline ‘Will he won’t he?’ – uses a question that with make you have questions about what the article is about .Standfirst – introduces the article and tells you a little about it. Page numbers

DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD

Drop cap- the article starts of with a drop cap ‘I’. Using this shows you where the article starts clearly.

Byline- tells who the journalist is, a little about what the article is about and who it is with. Standfirst- tells a little about the article and who it is with. The name of the interviewed is in a different font and colour so that it stands out and you can read clearly and easily who the article is with.

Headline- the headline of this article is a pull quote from it. Using a pull quote as the headline tells you a little about what is mentioned in the article.

Image- the image of Lily Allen is a medium shot. The image take up most the second page with the rest being used by the headline.
