2017 VFMC Convention, May 18-20, 2017

Hilton Garden Inn, Woodbridge, VA

Experience a glimpse into the past as we participate in the art of shape-note singing. Once widespread in the 18th and 19th centuries, this powerful musical tradition is now experiencing a renaissance. Actively engaging in shape-note singing is an experience like no other. Traditionally, shape note singing was considered an easy way to learn to read music. Grouped according to vocal range in a square formation and facing the song leader in the center, the singers create a powerful sonic exchange as they learn to read this unaccompanied style of music. Come join in the fun and discover this traditional form of music. Ever wonder what the NFMC could do for you and how you can get more involved? Come find out.

And don’t miss our student and teacher day on Saturday, May 20! First, attend a master class and get new piano teaching ideas while listening to student performances and valuable feedback from the 2015 NFMC Young Artist, Nicholas Susi. Later, learn how to get the most out of your practice in a workshop with pianist Anthony Cornet. Watch for the official call for registration. *************************************************************************************************
