SynopsisThe programme will be about getting young people aware whether going to university is the best option for them and to outline other options that are available to young people. The argument of this programme will show that the audience will be able to learn that university isn’t the only option and that it is not compulsory to go. Going to university may not be the best option for some people, so this will help them be aware that there are other options for them to take. This documentary may help or influence the decisions of young people.

Duration

The length of the documentary will be between 30-45 minutes. I intend to interviews of students on their viewpoint about whether going to university is the best option for them, the careers advisor explaining they help students who do not want to go to university and the sort of help teachers provide for students.

Target Audience

All young people do not go to university until they have finished college or sixth form. The target audience for this documentary will be for people aged 16-19. People who finish their time in school and students who are in Year 12 will want to understand there are other routes to take rather than going to university. It is very important that parents receive information on this, so that they will be able to help their children.

John Beckett

He is the Higher Education Advisor at Acland Burghley School, and he will outline the reasons why students should go to university. With a few critique questions, he will be able to justify the criticisms from students regarding the level of teaching. This interview with John Beckett will provide very useful information that will help form this documentary.

The interview with John Beckett will play a vital role in getting the right information for my target audience

Interview Questions1. What is your role as a higher education advisor?2. Why do you advise students to apply to university?3. Is going to university the most viable option for young people?4. What other options are there for young people who do not wish to go to

university?5. A lot of students have criticised the quality of teaching and courses at

university, do you think these criticisms are justified? 6. If so, why do you think these criticisms exists?7. What do you think the impact has been on the increase of tuition fees

on students applying to university?8. The average debt students have when they finish university is £42,500,

do you think this plays a major role when it comes to students applying to university?

9. Is a degree worth it in this day and age? 10.Is university the best option for everyone?I will be taking an ‘investigative

approach’, so that I am able to get as much information from Mr John Beckett.

Purpose of the interviewA factual interview will give you all the information that you need. This will provide information to my target audience to help them choose the path they wish to take when they finish their time in school, college or sixth. In addition, this documentary will outline that there are options to go for rather than having to go to university. In order to get the right information, I will need to make Mr John Beckett as calm and confident as possible. Conducting an informational interview will help me gather all of the information that my target audience, 16-19, will need this information during a stressful period in the lives.

How will the interview be part of a factual

programmeThe topic of the whole programme is about identifying the options young people can take when they finish school, college or sixth form. The interview with John Beckett will form a spine to my documentary because half of it will be about going to university.
