Everyone thinks; it is our nature to do so. But much of our thinking, left to itself, is biased, distorted, partial, uninformed, or downright prejudiced. If we want to think well, we must understand at least the rudiments of thought, the most basic structures that compose our thinking. We must learn how to take thinking apart.
This course will teach you how to think critical about the situations and problems you encounter in the work place. Learn how to deconstruct the elements of a problem to reach the source of the issue. This course focuses on teaching leaders the basic principles of communication so they can use to better interact with employees, team members, clients and other leaders.
This course will help develop an understanding of communication on a technical level. Unit 1: Written Communication Unit Overview
As a leader and manager, written communications constitutes a majority of your daily tasks. From writing letters, e-‐mails, reports, memos, e-‐mail and blogs, you spend a considerable amount of your day engaged in various written communications. In the business world today, it’s absolutely important to communicate clearly, concisely and effectively. In series 1, communications on a technical level was taught. In this unit, we focus solely on written communications.
Participants will learn how to improve their written communication skills and avoid common mistakes. Topics such as composition, style, structure, proposal writing and other forms of communications will be covered.

As the world becoming increasingly project oriented, it becomes ever more important to understand the principles of project management. A leader should be able to manage a project effectively and efficient, ensuring the project meets its goals and its stakeholders’ expectations.
The role of the project manager is to guide a project from creation to completion. To do this, a project manager must have a solid understanding of the trends, challenges, elements, and language of project management. This involves the soft

Unit 2: Time Management Unit Overview
Managing Time is an essential skill in leadership and management. With poor planning and lack of analysis, projects can fall behind schedule quickly.
Project time management consists of 6 key processes: defining and analyzing activities; sequencing activities; Estimating activity resources; estimating activity durations; developing schedules; and identifying how to control and monitor the schedule. These processes interact with each other and affect every area of management including quality, budget and personnel. Each of the listed processes occurs at least once in every project and is utilized in different phases of a project.
This unit will cover these 6 key processes of time management, allowing you to become a more effective leader. Time management is inherently linked with project management and thus is a compliment to skills learned earlier in the project management unit.

Money is the bottom line of projects, programs and organizations. It is a restraint that everyone must deal with. Budgets of all sizes pose a challenge to those that manage them. Poor financial management results in goals being unmet and projects being cancelled.
As a leader, one of your primary responsibilities is learning how to manage the cost of deliverables in the field you work in. Though a technical aspect of leadership, budgeting and costing is no less important than the people skills commonly associated with effective leaders.
This unit will provide you a solid understanding of the operational and project budget processes. This includes budget developments, implementation, performance and evaluation. Though a technical skill, this course is designed to be interactive and offer you many opportunities to apply what you have learned.

Unit 4: Managing Contractors Unit Overview
Sometimes it simply is not cost efficient or time efficient to accomplish certain objectives in house. When this is the case, organizations will contract the services of other people to meet these objectives.
As a leader, you are often involved in the pre-‐qualification and selection of contractors including the RFP process, competent selection and on-‐going performance monitoring once the contract is signed.

Unit Overview Any organization is full of different tasks that need to be completed. These tasks often need to be completed in a certain order and needs certain people to sign off on those tasks. Those processes are developed. Processes are the order tasks are completed to produces a certain product or service.
However, these processes can become cumbersome and inefficient, containing more steps than necessary and reducing productivity. This makes it important to effectively manage these processes. A leader should have a good understanding of the processes that exist in the organization, and ensure they are the best they can be.
One of the most effective forms of process management is Lean. It has been adopted by organizations world-‐wide and has greatly improved production by reducing waste. This unit focuses on process management and how Lean can improve your organization.

Unit Overview In this unit, participants will learn about organizational change and how to strategically integrate and align their organization’s goals and objectives with their resources and personnel. By participating, engaging and practicing, you will clearly understand the role leaders and managers play in organizational change.

Unit 3: Situational And Transformational Leadership Unit Overview
There are many different leadership styles for leaders and managers to choose to help them achieve their strategic goals in the most efficient manner. This unit focuses on two organizational leadership styles: situational leadership and transformational leadership.
Situational leadership seeks to assess the current situation you’re in and change your leadership approach based on the people involved and the task at hand. Transformational leadership involves using a variety of elements and techniques to enhance employee motivation, morale and performance and inspire them to make positive changes. By the end of this unit, participants will have a greater understanding of both leadership styles and will be able to decide which style best suits their needs as leaders and managers in their workplace.

By the end of this unit, you will have the knowledge to determine your own strengths, how to invest in other’s strengths, choosing the right strengths for your team and understanding and meeting the four basic needs of those who look to you for leadership.
