Pro Osteon Bone Graft Substitute

Track Record1 to the Bone

Over 1 million times per year, Biomet helps one surgeon

provide personalized care to one patient.

The science and art of medical care is to provide the right

solution for each individual patient. This requires clinical

mastery, a human connection between the surgeon and the

patient, and the right tools for each situation.

At Biomet, we strive to view our work through the eyes of one

surgeon and one patient. We treat every solution we provide

as if it’s meant for a family member.

Our approach to innovation creates real solutions that assist

each surgeon in the delivery of durable personalized care

to each patient, whether that solution requires a minimally

invasive surgical technique, advanced biomaterials or a

patient-matched implant.

When one surgeon connects with one patient to provide

personalized care, the promise of medicine is fulfilled.

One Surgeon. One Patient.

Pro Osteon has been indicated as bone graft substitute. Pro Osteon has been indicated for use in bony defect repair and fusion. The architecture and chemical composition are similar

to human cancellous bone.

Pro Osteon is available as pure, non-resorbable, hydroxyapatite osteoconductive matrix and as resorbable, osteoconductive

matrix consisting of a thin, 2–10 micron layer of hydroxyapatite over a calcium carbonate core.

Biomet is offering Pro Osteon in two different porosities, each with their own unique capacities and applications; Pro Osteon 200R and Pro Osteon 500R.

Pro Osteon is available in both blocks and granules. There are different blocks and granule sizes to facilitate in filling small and large bone defects.

Pro Osteon can be easily combined with autogenous or allogenic bone graft and is significantly resorbed in approximately 6–18 months.

With clinical data going back to 1982, Pro Osteon has an

unmatched track record among bone graft substitutes.

Pro Osteon 200 and 200R

• The 200R variant is significantly resorbed in approximately 6–18 months

• Full 200 micron (average) interconnected porosity provides continuous pathways for bony ingrowth

• Small granules (0.5–1 mm), convenient for filling small defects

• Architecture and chemical composition similar to human

bi-cortical bone

• Can be mixed with autologous blood or marrow

• Blocks are available in different sizes

• Requires no special handling or reconstitution and is shipped sterile, ready-to-use

augment frontal cranium.

bone(red/brown) throughout the implant at 11 months.

Pro Osteon

Pro Osteon 500 and 500R

• The 500R variant is significantly resorbed in approximately 6–18 months

• Fully interconnected porosity (280–770 microns) provides continuous pathways for bony ingrowth

• Architecture and chemical composition similar to human

cancellous bone

• Excellent as a bone void filler to be packed into bony voids or gaps in the skeletal system

• Requires no special handling or reconstitution and is shipped sterile, ready-to-use

• Blocks are available in different sizes

• Pro Osteon 500 was shown in a clinical study to be equivalent to

autogenous bone graft in clinical healing patterns of metaphyseal

fracture defects1

Opened, but unused, Pro Osteon blocks or granules (unwetted), which have not been contaminated with blood or body fluids, can be resterilized once using standard autoclaving procedures. Resterilization of granules in the vial requires that the screw cap be loosened adequately to allow steam penetration.
