The Junct ion box i s used on a l l ESP ins ta l lat ions to prevent the migrat ion of

gas to the switchboard or Var iab le Frequency Dr ive where the gas cou ld be

ign i ted by the sparks generated by the e lectr ic breaker or c i rcu i t and cause

an exp los ion.

In a typ ica l ins ta l lat ion , the Junct ion Box i s ins ta l led 15 feet or more f rom the

wel lhead and the switchboard i s p laced at 35 feet or more f rom the junct ion

box; 50 feet or more f rom the we l lhead. The Junct ion Box i s mounted 3 to 4

feet above ground and cab les f rom the Junct ion Box to the we l lhead and the

switchboard or Var iab le Frequency Dr ive are bur ied . The Junct ion Box must

never be ins ta l led ins ide a bu i ld ing or a conta ined s t ructure . The Premier

High Vol tage , Vented Junct ion Box meets NEMA-3R spec i f i cat ions and i s

ava i lab le in both Sta in less Stee l and Powder Coated Carbon Stee l

construct ion. The Premier Junct ion Box prov ides easy access for ins ta l lat ion

of cab les up to 2/0 AWG. Features for the grounding of the power conductor

cab le and ad justab le inter lock ing of cab le to f i t a l l common ESP power cab le

in serv ice are un ique to these Junct ion Boxes . The Junct ion Box i s rated to

5000V, us ing spec ia l heavy duty insu lators and the spec ia l sa fety features l ike

the termina l protect ive sh ie ld ensure that the un i t meets a l l industry spec i f i c

safety requirement .

In appl icat ions where the Junct ion Box i s located c lose to the Wel l Head, an

Exp los ion proof sea led junct ion box i s used. The Cables are terminated at the

Box us ing Exp los ion proof Cab le G lands and the doors are sea led us ingneoprene gaskets / o- r ings and s tee l bo l ts .

systems that are commonly re ferred to as Switchboards . Switchboards

trans fer the input vo l tage and frequency to the output and in turn to the

motor which enables the sys tem to run at a f i xed f requency that i s the same

as that of the supply power . In addi t ion to the t rans fer of power , the

Switchboard prov ides contro l in terms of on and off switches and a lso

protect ion and meter ing dev ices to set a larms/ safe operat ing parameters and

record important parameters l ike current , phase vo l tages and vo l tage

imbalances .

The Premier Range of Switchboards are segregated into the fo l lowing groups .

The low vo l tage range of Switchboards operate f rom 380V to 480V and are

normal ly used for low horsepower appl icat ions where the ava i lab le power

supply vo l tage i s a l so with in th is range , e l iminat ing the need for a s tep-down

trans former .

LOW VOLTAGE SWITCHBOARDS

MEDIUM VOLTAGE SWITCHBOARDS

The medium vol tage range of switchboards operate f rom 600V to 5000V.

There are three spec i f i c mode ls in th is range .

1 . Premier 1 .5KV Switchboard - Rated f rom 600 to 1500V operat ing vo l tage

at a maximum of 200A. The d isconnect switch i s rated to 1 .5KV and i s a

no- load break d isconnect type .

2 . Premier 3 .6KV Switchboard - Rated f rom 750 to 3600V operat ing vo l tageat a maximum of 200A. The d isconnect switch i s rated to 12KV and 600A

and i s a load break d isconnect type .

3 . Premier 5 .0KV Switchboard - Rated f rom 1200 to 5000V operat ing vo l tage

at a maximum of 200A. The d isconnect switch i s rated to 12KV and 600A

and i s a load break d isconnect type .

COMBINATION SWITCHBOARDS

The Combinat ion Switchboards i s a perfect low cost

so lut ion for low horsepower ESP sys tems. These sys tems

have a dry type a i r cooled t rans former in the bottom

compartment and a low vo l tage switchboard in the top

compartment . The two components are interconnected at

the factory and i s fu l ly tes ted before sh ipp ing.

Th is sys tem requires very l i t t le maintenance and i s rated

to a maximum of 50o

C ambient operat ion. Di f ferent s i zes

are ava i lab le based on appl icat ion requirements , f rom

The Premier range of Var iab le Frequency dr ives i s an idea l choice for running

an ESP sys tem or an HPS sys tem. The dr ives are manufactured at a base rat ing

PREMIER P SERIES DRIVES

The Premier P Ser ies Dr ive meets most of the appl icat ion requirements in the

oi l f ie ld and industr ia l range of app l icat ions . The input to the P ser ies dr ive i s

380V to 480V. With a phase sh i f t ing input t rans former , the Premier VFD dual

d iode br idge can be operated in 12 pu lse rect i f i cat ion mode, reducing input

current harmonic d is tort ion factor by 90%.

SPECIFICATION AND FEATURES FOR P & G SERIES DRIVES

The Premier G ser ies dr ive i s a h igh horsepower AC dr ive . The dr ive i s o f

modular des ign with separate converter and inverter sect ions ins ta l led in a

common enc losure . These sect ions can be para l le led to increase the capac i ty

of the dr ive to 1800A at 480 and 600V. There are three contro l modes ,

t rad i t iona l Vo l ts/Hertz , open loop vector and c losed loop f lux vectorincorporated into the same dr ive . The modular construct ion of fers the

commonal i ty of parts between dr ives of d i f ferent s i zes and typ ica l ly comes in

s teps of 450KVA. The dr ives a lso features a s tandard non-regenerat ive f ront

end that can eas i ly support 12pulse , 18 pu lse or 24 pu lse conf igurat ions for

reduced harmonics .

S ine Wave F i l ter - The Premier S ine Wave F i l ter i s used tob lock h igh f requency harmonics generated on the output of

the dr ive f rom trave l l ing beyond the VFD output . With the

Harmonics removed, the output resembles a pure s ine wave

that puts very min imal s t ress on the cab le and the e lectr ic

TRANSFORMERS

Premier Pumping So lut ions of fers a complete range of Trans formers that are

su i tab le for both F ixed Speed operat ions and Var iab le Frequency operat ion.

There are main ly two types of Trans formers used in ESP appl icat io ns .

Step-down Transformers - The Step-down Trans formers are used when the

l ine vo l tage on the power l ine i s h igher than the operat ing vo l tage of the

surface contro l sys tem. These t rans formers are ava i lab le in any vo l tage and

power rat ings as required by the appl icat ion. Step-down t rans formers are

usua l ly s ing le tap t rans formers that are spec i f i ca l ly des igned for a part icu lar

appl icat ion.

Step-up Transformers - Most ESP sys tems operate at medium vol tage ranges

so as to keep the operat ing current and cab le losses low. To fac i l i tate th is ,

once the e lectr ic power passes through the contro l sys tem, the vo l tage i s

s tepped up to ensure that the vo l tage at the motor i s the same as the

spec i f ied vo l tage for that motor at that f requency of operat ion. The Step-

down Trans formers have a mult i - tap output which enables the changing of the

output vo l tage with in a spec i f ied range to su i t the vo l tage of the se lected

motor at the spec i f ied f requency .

Dry Type Transformers - The Dry Type Trans formers i s a good so lut ion for low

KVA appl icat ions that are in p laces with a maximum ambient temperature of

+45o

C. These are normal ly used for Switchboard appl icat ions but can a lso be

used for low KVA Var iab le Frequency Dr ive appl icat ions . The Dry Type

Trans formers need to be ins ta l led in a hous ing based on the NEMA or IP

rat ings required for the appl icat ion. The b iggest advantage of the Dry Type

Trans formers i s the low cost compared to the Oi l -F i l led Trans formers . The Dry

Type Trans formers are ava i lab le with two types of mater ia ls for the wind ings ,

namely Copper and Alumin ium.

Oi l F i l led Transformers - The Oi l F i l led Trans formers are used in H igh KVA

appl icat ions and in areas where the ambient temperature goes above +45o

C.

The Trans former i s housed in an a i r t ight tank that i s f i l led with d i -e lectr ic

minera l o i l . These types of Trans formers are prov ided with addi t iona l safety

protect ion sys tems l ike o i l leve l gauge , o i l temperature gauge and a vent

va lve . The h igher spec i f i cat ion Trans formers are f i t ted with DGPT re lays for

monitor ing and protect ion and in some cases , Hermet ica l ly Sea led

Trans formers are used.
