BrochureDescription:A brochure promoting a product or service.

Date:12/5/15

Course/Instructor:Comm 130 Section 04 Ben Pingel

Program(s)/Tools:Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign

Objectives:Setup and design a two-sided layout incorporating a logo, images and body copy.

Process: I created the logo in Adobe Illustrator. I used a monochromatic blue for the color scheme. I used the shape tools to create the two shapes for in the logo and used the scissor tool to cut the corner of the top left of the logo, so I could place the name of the company.

In Photoshop I edited the images by cropping and adjusting colors to fit the design of the logo. I searched for photos that matched or complemented the design. However, for the top right photo of the blonde girl on the inside I changed the color of her shirt (pink) to match the blue color scheme.

I aimed to keep the design simple in order to focus on the photography of the design. After creating an offset layout in InDesign I placed the four images on the right of the inside of the page. I repeated this on the back side of the brochure as well. I also repeated the colors and the shapes throughout the design. The light blue stripe is seen on every side of the brochure.

Date:10/17/15

Course/Instructor:Comm 130 Section 04 Ben Pingel

Program(s)/Tools:Adobe Photoshop

Objectives:Learn basic photography skills. Incorporate the image into a design. Use a digital camera to take a quality image, then download it. Adjust image on separate layers Size and crop the image and place on layout. Use layers to design text, and repeating graphic elements in Photoshop.

Process:I used levels to adjust the brightness of the image, the sharpen tool to sharpen the subjects face and hair, the healing brush to remove blemishes, darkened the top right light strand wit the burn tool, and cropped and straightened it out. To connect the design I used the ellipse tool to create white lines merging from the light strands of the photo to extend to the ends of the design. This assisted in unifying the photo with the rest of the design.

Course/Instructor:Comm 130 Section 04 Ben Pingel

Program(s)/Tools:Adobe Illustrator and InDesign

Objectives:Use the basic tools in Illustrator & InDesign. Create a logo to fit a company or personal image. Use the new logo to design consistent layouts for a business card Apply typography rules, keeping small copy.Include contact information: name, address, phone, website, and email on each piece.

Process:To create the icon I started with a hexagon and circle. I drew out lines from the edges of the hexagon to the edge of the circle. I expanded and used divide. I used the pen tool to draw the rounded triangular shapes in the circle, placed them behind the circle shape, and filled them with the blue and purple. I repeated the same shapes throughout the rest of the logo. I created a 3.5 x 2 inch layout for the business card and placed the logo aligning it with the contact information.

LogosDescription:An example of a logo designed for a business.

Date:10/31/15

Course/Instructor:Comm 130 Section 04 Ben Pingel

Program(s)/Tools:Adobe Illustrator

Objectives:Create three completely different, original logos to fit a company or personal image that will appeal to the audience. Market research: gather opinions from at least ten people about which logo appeals most to them. Use only the Illustrator tools to create and draw your logos. Refine one logo with variations for color.

Process:The logo took more thought to keep it simple. I typed the “B” in a separate text box to lower it from the rest of the top of the title. I used the pen tool to draw the camera shape. With the ellipse tool I formed a red circle behind the second “O” in the word “photography.” After forming the rectangle of the camera I used the scissor tool to remove parts of the outline to prevent overlap with the title. I aligned the top of the title with the bottom of the title using the tracking option in Illustrator.

Date: 10/3/15

Course/Instructor:Comm 130 Section 04 Ben Pingel

Program(s)/Tools:Adobe InDesign

Objectives:Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography. Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout. Retrieve image and logo from links on this page.Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign document to keep links in InDesign intact.

Process:I created the flier in Adobe InDesign. The shapes were created with the rectangle tool and changed the opacity to create a visual depth to the flier. I created unity through repeated shapes. The white space in the bottom right brings the viewers eye towards the date, time, and place.

MontageDescription:A spiritually themed montage demonstrating the use of masking and blending in photoshop.

Date:10/24/15

Course/Instructor:Comm 130 Section 04 Ben Pingel

Program(s)/Tools:Adobe Photoshop

Objectives:Unify a layout with a consistent theme and dominant spiritual message Demonstrate more advanced Photoshop skills for layout with multiple elements Use a mask to apply a filter to one part of the image, and blend multiple images together. Apply typography principles Select good quality images

Process:In Photoshop I placed three images starting with the first image as the background. I placed the second image as the focus of the design. The yellow hue of the photo contrasted from the blue background. I created a duplicate layer of the second image and changed the color of the duplicate to match the blue of the background. I decreased the opacity to blend. I placed masks on both copies of the second image to blend the edges. I placed and duplicated the image of bokeh to add a texture-like element. I used two lines for the title copy, but can be seen as one question.

Web PageDescription:A website for a logo process description demonstrating coding in html and CSS.

Date:11/21/15

Course/Instructor:Comm 130 Ben Pingel

Program(s)/Tools:Notepad++

Objectives:Write content to describe the process of creating your logo and how it appeals to a target audience. Acquire a working knowledge of HTML and CSS.

Process:I started in html and put together all the information used to describe the process. I placed everything I needed for the web page in a folder in order for the different elements to appear correctly. I applied tags for unordered lists, list items, break, etc… After coding in html, I used CSS to design the layout of the web page. I adjusted margins and changed fonts to better match the logo. I aimed to keep the web page simple like the logo. I realized the simplicity was too boring. It was too simple. I opened the logo in Adobe Illustrator to grab the icon and enlarge it. I placed the icon in Adobe InDesign to adjust the opacity of the icon and exported a large jpeg to place in the background of the web page. I found it added depth and color to the page. It originally looked more like a flier, but the background image helped the web page stand out.

Using the image effects on word, I increased the contrast and decreased the brightness to match the background.Inserted several text boxes and placed the words on purple boxes. The words align on the left or right sides.
