What is Pledgebank? The website is based on the

simple principle that the person making the online pledge will work to make it happen ‘but only if’ a number of other people commit too

The site is a joint project between mySociety and Barnet Council

What does a pledge look like?

Page 4: Pledgebank presentation

So what made these pledges a success?

• A Big Event – using an occasion that everyone knows about to base a pledge on (as with the Royal Wedding street parties)

Page 5: Pledgebank presentation

So what made these pledges a success?

• The council offering something people want – such as making it easy to have a party and get to know your neighbours (The Big Lunch)

Page 6: Pledgebank presentation

So what made these pledges a success?

• Working together to cut red tape – allowing people to volunteer and get involved in things that would have been difficult before (Hendon IT project)

Page 7: Pledgebank presentation

• Pledges where the council has made the offer

• Pledges where we have cut red tape, i.e. volunteer packs

What has worked well?

What have people said about Pledgebank?

“It can be daunting trying to organise people - living in London isn’t like being in a village. This really can bring people together and help them to get to know their community.”

Catherine Loveday, resident

“Thanks for your pledge. Neighbours are now talking and I have had a few notes through my door from people who do not have internet access but want to help.”

Barnet resident
