It's a VUCA world where the rules of the game have changed. We often hear about terms such as

globalization, triple bottom line, more for less for more, disruptive innovation, sustainability,

technological revolution, social responsibility, ethics, governance and the list goes on. To keep

abreast with the dynamism, there is a dire need for students to hone their leadership skills, have

greater awareness of self & context, develop a global mindset, empathy &ethical perspective.

At WeSchool, all our efforts are towards grooming our students with these qualities and skill sets.

Consequent to the mega shifts that have characterized the global and local business

environment over the last five years, WeSchool is gearing itself towards developing the future

ready managers and leaders, who are versatile, competent and value based. WeSchool's

guiding philosophy has been that of AAA which stands for “Acquisition, Application and Assimilation of knowledge”. Our emphasis is not

only on acquisition of knowledge; but also on the application of knowledge. We strongly believe that by engaging students in pursuing real-

life projects/simulations/case studies, wherein they are able to apply the concepts learnt, helps in permanent retention of knowledge which

leads to assimilation.

The genesis of Global Citizen Leader program (GCL) has been from our AAA philosophy. Last year, WeSchool students participated in the

GCL Program to learn the essentials of innovation and leadership. Student groups were engaged in a local social improvement project. For a

period of 6months student groups worked on issues related to Rural, Healthcare, Innovation, Social issues, Human Resources, Urban

issues, Infrastructure, Systems & IT and Energy, under the guidance of Centre for Creative Leadership (CCL), USA and WeSchool Faculty

members.

Innovation and design thinking has always been one of the strongest pillars of WeSchool's guiding philosophy. We are committed in our

journey towards inculcating innovative mindset in our students. In February 2014, we hosted INTER-DESIGN Mumbai; a global event

organized under the aegis of ICSID (International Council of Societies of Industrial Design). We School is the only B-School to host this

global congregation of the best designers in the world (all the previous editions have been held by Design Schools across the world). The

theme for this event was “Humanizing the Metropolis”. WeSchool's firm rooted belief that innovation and design thinking will recalibrate the

rules of corporate and social performance, led to "The MIT Media Lab: WeSchool Design innovation Workshop 2014" which was an

interesting milestone in WeSchool's inventive and transformative education journey.

Students' global & rural exposures and opportunity to engage in several projects and initiatives such as D-Magics, GRLI, SIFE, Udaan and

Munijan have sensitized them to their role as an individual to make a difference to the organization they would be working for. WeSchool's

association with several leading International Universities has ensured student & faculty exchange and internship programs.

I welcome you to be a part of an intensive developmental experience at our sprawling campuses in Mumbai and Bengaluru which will truly

enhance your intellectual and personal growth. We promise to equip you with inventive techniques and tools which will transform you into

Global Citizen Leaders in organizations of today and tomorrow.

I am delighted to announce that WeSchool, Bengaluru which had a humble start seven years ago,

has established its presence in the Silicon Valley of India. The institute has recently got accredited

with South Asian Quality System (SAQS). Being located in the Garden City, each corner of our

sprawling campus captures and emphasizes the green color of our brand identity, to provide an

ideal serene environment conducive for learning and absorbing new knowledge.

As an institute of excellence, WeSchool, Bengaluru aims to provide high-quality management

education as well as action-centric and value adding research. Our customized Management

Development Programmes for few top corporate like Infosys, Robert Bosch, E&Y, Titan and GE are

exclusively industry focused so as to equip the executives with latest management techniques in

the ever-dynamic context of business environment. Faculty members are actively involved in their

pursuit of creating and disseminating knowledge through teaching, research and training. Further

adding on, interactions with India Inc has given us the impetus and encouragement to develop live

case studies which have been published by Richard Ivey and Michigan University.

Our vision is to create and nurture future leaders who manage and create powerful organizations in

the emerging corporate landscape. This is executed through the Industry Round Tables, Seminars,

Conferences, WE-Café and several other student driven initiatives which help in bridging the gap

between Industry and Academia. WeSchool also has a student body which drives CSR initiatives

through the Rotaract Club of Welingkar and CII-YI. As knowledge partners with NHRDN, we have

successfully organized “NHRDN HR Showcase” in the Bangalore Chapter. Whereas “International

Social Media Marketing Conference” on Social Media Markets in Emerging Economies gave us a

perspective of global leaders as to how the Un-Metroes drive the markets.

The curricula of all our long term programs are industry oriented based on best global practices.

Academic rigour is reflected in the course design and delivery of programs like PGDM, PGDM E-

business and PGDM in Business Design and Innovation. Various pedagogic tools help our

students develop not only a holistic business perspective but an ability to seize opportunities in a

competitive business environment.

We hope to engage you actively in this journey. For as we take the fledgling steps to an exciting

future we have strong belief in one thing – we can achieve almost anything we set out to, with

focused vision, mission and team work.

Case Study

Priyanka Hadawale

PGDM – Human Resources

“Across sectors in India, average voluntary attrition rate is double-digit and how can I make a difference in this equation?”

Since her childhood, Priyanka always aspired to be an Engineer but towards the end of her B.E. in Electronics, she realised that her strengths

are more inclined to working with people and their role in business, which is why she also opted for the PGDM-Human Resource

Management program at WeSchool.

Having worked in Infosys for around 2 years and apart from the cutting-edge pedagogy delivered in a transformative education approach,

one of the best things Priyanka experienced was the grooming she received at the Assessment Centre and Development Centre (ACDC) last

year, where she received rigorous coaching providing her a clear understanding of her strengths and weaknesses and how she could go

about developing them one year down the line. “I could link the learning from this experience to my career goals by reflecting on how I can

assist the employees of my organization to excel in terms of functional expertise and their holistic professional development”.

WeSchool nurtures the concept of innovation and thought leadership amongst its students and to apply these management concepts in

a corporate reality. The program has been developed based on a unique application and assimilation of knowledge on real-life HR issues,

in order to meet “...the most demanding and challenging parameters of professional and academic rigour, through latest modules like Total

Rewards (Compensation Benefits), Talent Management, Learning Training & Development and so on”.

After the successful completion of these 2 years of PGDM-Human Resource Management program, she has recently secured a placement

at GE Shipping with a CTC of 10.38 Lakhs. WeSchool has expanded her ambitions and Priyanka says, “I have realised that people are at the

heart of any organisation, so the ability to manage and develop employees, ensure their welfare and understand cultural diversity is essential

to business survival as it can enhance the financial bottom-line of the company while being sensitive to the diverse needs of employees and

stakeholders at large.”

This path-breaking course has truly motivated students like Priyanka to develop their identity as budding professionals who are also

Global Citizen Leaders and has galvanized their commitment to excel in today's thriving people centric economies.

Akhil Anil Kumar

PGDM- Rural Management

“One out of seven people in the world is a rural Indian. Is this rural Indian empowered enough and can I make a difference in this equation?”

Since his childhood, Akhil has always aspired to be different and in pursuit for excellence to create a substantial difference benefiting SOS

(Self, Organization and Society), which is why he opted for the PGDM-Rural Management program at WeSchool, as he wanted to use his

management skills to serve the rural population at a later stage.

Apart from the cutting-edge pedagogy delivered in a transformative education approach, one of the best things Akhil experienced in these

two years, was a 10 day program called “Exploring the Grassroots” at Nasik and a summer internship project where he had to sell

a Corporate product to around 300 households in Alleppey, Kerala. This unique industry-related rural immersion internship brought him

a “...better understanding of the rural household, dynamics governing the rural economy and how to tackle the grassroot challenges along

with the opportunities present in this 'sunrise sector'”.

WeSchool nurtures the concept of innovation and thought leadership amongst its students and to apply these management concepts in

reality at a grassroot level, one needs to have premium knowledge of the bottom of the pyramid, the rural sector in India.

After the successful completion of these 2 years of PGDM-Rural Management program, he has recently secured a job at Axis Bank with

a CTC of 8.1 Lakhs. WeSchool has expanded his ambitions and Akhil says, “I have realised that a corporate strategy coupled with an

empathetic rural approach is the only way to touch the hearts of the stakeholders and make a substantial difference to the bottom-line.”

This path-breaking course has truly motivated students like Akhil to develop their identity as budding professionals who are also Global

Citizen Leaders and has galvanized their commitment to excel in the corporate world while being sensitive to the needs of the thriving rural

population in emerging economies.

PGDM- Healthcare Management

“The cost of key surgeries and medical procedures in many private hospitals is higher than the annual household income of between 60%

and 90% of India's population and through the integration of IT in Healthcare can I make a difference in this equation?”

Since her childhood, Nainsi always aspired to be a Healthcare professional and so after pursuing a B.Tech in Biotechnology and a work

experience of over 2 years at a leading IT firm, Nainsi decided to opt for the PGDM-Healthcare Management program at WeSchool.

Having worked in IT Industry for 2 years and apart from the cutting-edge pedagogy delivered in a transformative education approach, one of

the best things Nainsi experienced was her participation in MIT Media Labs. The overall learning in developing an Android based App for

users to understand how to reuse, recycle, donate or sell their waste products to explore healthcare requirements in urban slums, has truly

amplified her confidence to understand contemporary healthcare while being sensitive to the diverse stakeholders interests.

WeSchool nurtures the concept of innovation and thought leadership amongst its students and to apply these management concepts in the

healthcare sector, one needs to have premium knowledge of healthcare management along with skills of general management. India, as per

WHO 2014 data, has only one doctor per 1,700 citizens. Advanced medical technologies are now stepping in to bridge this gap and “...the

learning I have gained from Healthcare Information System (HIS) subject has enabled me to understand how to build and use software and

systems to manage, retrieve, and analyse data to drive improvements in patient care”.

After the successful completion of these 2 years of PGDM-Healthcare Management program, she has recently secured a placement at ICICI

Prudential with a CTC of 9 Lakhs. WeSchool has expanded her ambitions and Nainsi says, “I have realised to contribute not only to the

financial bottom-line of today's Healthcare organizations but also enhance the lives of millions of patients in remote rural corners with unique

IT based healthcare solutions which are faster, cheaper, smarter, and safer.”

This path-breaking course has truly motivated students like Nainsi to develop their identity as budding who are also Global Citizen Leaders

and has galvanized their commitment to excel in today's thriving digital based Healthcare economies.

PGDM- Retail Management

“Currently, organized retail constitutes around 8% of the total Indian retail market and is expected to grow significantly to 20% by 2020 and

with the immense potential in this burgeoning industry, how can I make a difference in this equation?”

Since his childhood, Hiren was always an inquisitive learner and a student who was result-oriented. His subsequent pursuit of B.Sc. IT

coupled with his interest for electronics retailing and a popular title of “tech guru” led him to pursue the PGDM Retail Management program

at WeSchool.

Having worked for around 3.5 years in the industry and apart from the cutting-edge pedagogy delivered in a transformative education

approach, one of the best things Hiren has experienced was Co-Heading the Retail Club - Weyapaar. The hands-on experience of

organizing this roundtable by leading a team of 4 to 5 members of the club, led him to understand that, “…it was not just the retail theory

concepts but the actual soft skills in handling people and the realization of mentoring our juniors to shoulder this responsibility after us, which

I think has been invaluable to my professional and personal development”.

WeSchool nurtures the concept of innovation and thought leadership amongst its students and to apply these management concepts in a

retail reality, one needs to have premium knowledge of retail management along with the skills of general management. “One of my favourite

subjects was “Retail Store Operations & Profitability” which assisted me in understanding the need for lean store operations while running a

store and ratios for analysing profitability through simulated experiential learning via case studies and live industry projects”.

After the successful completion of these 2 years of PGDM-Retail Management program, he has recently secured a placement at Croma with

a CTC of 7 Lakhs. WeSchool has expanded his ambitions and Hiren says, “I have realised that “retail is in detail” and I would like to be the

catalyst for leading the retail industry to not just trigger business profitability but also to empower consumers in the retail marketplace.”

This path-breaking course has truly motivated students like Hiren to develop their identity as budding professionals who are also Global

PGDM- Business Design

“In this current financial year, Tata Group's cumulative innovations have translated to $1 billion worth of economic benefits and how can I

contribute to this equation?”

Since his childhood, Harshavardhan was always inquisitive to think creatively, which later led him to enrol in B.E. Electrical Engineering

instead of a career in computer science. During his work experience at Titan Industries he realised the importance of innovation and design

thinking as a business imperative and since hence he decided to pursue the PGDM Business Design program at WeSchool.

Having worked in Titan Industries for over 2 years and apart from the cutting-edge pedagogy delivered in a transformative education

approach, one of the best things Harshavardhan experienced in these two years was heading D-Magics. The hands-on experience of

organizing this event by leading a core team of 20 members, has truly assisted in “...developing my skills as an effective leader to roll out such

corporate events successfully and be able to assimilate the knowledge I have learnt through a creative solution-focused thinking that starts

with the goal, instead of a problem”.

WeSchool nurtures the concept of innovation and thought leadership amongst its students and to apply these management concepts in a

complex corporate reality, one needs to have premium knowledge of business design thinking along with skills of general management.

“One of my favourite subjects was “Sector Analysis” which involved latent need identification, end-to-end value chain analysis, developing a

business model and competitor mapping and benchmarking to understand the process of translating an initial idea into a full-fledged

business model creation.”

After the successful completion of these 2 years of PGDM-Business Design program, he has recently secured a placement at Tata Motors

with a CTC of 7.4 Lakhs. WeSchool has expanded his ambitions and Harshavardhan says, “I have realised that a corporate strategy which

seamlessly integrates design, business and technology based on the confluence of intuitive creative designing and analytical thinking can

dramatically improve results we can get from a limited budget and can thus multiply the impact.”

This path-breaking course has truly motivated students like Harshavardhan to develop their identity as budding professionals who are also

Case Study

Anurag Chatterjee

PGDM- E-Business

“The Indian E-business is poised to be worth $20 million by 2015 and how can I make a difference in this equation?”

Since his childhood, Anurag always aspired to be a Computers Engineer to assist people in the virtual space with system solutions which are

faster, cheaper, smarter, and safer; which is why he also opted for the PGDM-E-Business program at WeSchool.

Having worked in Infosys for over 3 years and apart from the cutting-edge pedagogy delivered in a transformative education approach, one

of the best things Anurag experienced in these two years was a six month internship with Costco Retail (USA) for automating a part of the

Bakery system, which assisted him to learn holistic integration of business needs with technology. Additionally, Anurag took up the

responsibility of being the Editor of Samvad, where he led a team of 18 fellow PGDM batch mates and leveraged their skills into writing and

blogging, which in turn has assisted in enhancing his own skills as an effective leader.

WeSchool nurtures the concept of innovation and thought leadership amongst its students and to apply these management concepts in a

virtual reality, one needs to have premium knowledge of information technology along with the skills of general management. The program

commences with imparting the fundamentals of e-business and gradually increases the depth of analysis and application of successful

e-business components, in order to meet “...the most demanding and challenging parameters of professional and academic rigour, through

latest modules like Big Data and Analytics, Cloud Computing, Digital marketing and so on”.

After the successful completion of these 2 years of PGDM-E-Business program, he has recently secured a placement at Infosys with a CTC

of 8.5 Lakhs. WeSchool has expanded his ambitions and Anurag says, “I have realised that a corporate strategy coupled with new-age

transformational technology can not only make a difference to the financial bottom-line of today's businesses but also improve and enhance

the lives of millions of users in the social space.”

This path-breaking course has truly motivated students like Anurag to develop their identity as budding professionals who are also Global

Citizen Leaders and has galvanized their commitment to excel today's thriving digital economies.

Close to 200 WeSchool students from the fulltime PGDM programs namely, Business Design, Retail Management Healthcare

Management and Rural Management (Emerging Economies) underwent the Global Citizen Leadership program (GCL). This credit program

is conducted in collaboration with world renowned Centre for Creative Leadership (CCL).

This program is delivered through a combination of theoretical class room sessions, supported by practical immersion into creating some

product / service / or solution that addresses a real life issue, or need. Weekly interventions by faculty mentors guide them through the

journey of self awareness, bonding in teams and gathering insightful observations which are later combined to form themes that can be used

to develop solutions.

During the first three months the students create a project plan, find inspiration, search and define opportunity spaces. In the next three

months the students develop solutions, do prototyping and prepare funding pitches. The top projects were then showcased in front of an

esteemed panel of jury members.

This cutting-edge transformative program provides our students with leadership and innovation knowledge along with an opportunity to

learn and practice skills in a real-life context.

Our students worked towards developing sustainable solutions to issues were related to Rural, Healthcare, Innovation, Social issues,

Human Resources, Urban issues, Infrastructure, Process and Systems & IT and energy.

Some of the unique GCL projects of our students which have impacted not only areas of commerce but also larger social issues are :

1. Opportunities for improved access to financial services for underprivileged citizens in Mumbai

2. Opportunities for developing high end product positioning for any agricultural product

3. Opportunities for developing appropriate patient routing system in a public hospital environment.

4. Opportunities for creating improved rural health services.

5. How to inculcate fiscal discipline among customers of rural financial products

6. Identifying a scalable business model for incubating Women Entrepreneurship in Rural areas.

GCL has received a tremendous response from our senior students who have appreciated the immense value addition this program has

contributed to their overall skill development.

paradigm-defining businesses. It is a place where, students are encouraged to voice the weirdest of their ideas. innoWe is a hub of ideas for

business concepts ofthe future.

innoWE, BengaluruInnovate and Incubate; the base-line for management learning in Business Design. Business leaders of tomorrow need to be

innovative.

WeSchool inculcates learning in future business leaders to be innovative

business creators by integrating Design Thinking and the Innovation

process into mainstream management subjects, more particularly for

the Business Design & Innovation program.

The Business Design program follows a hands-on pedagogy to drive

theoretical learning through projects, within the class-room and beyond.

The InnoWe lab is a facility to encourage, enable, and explore ideas and

innovations.

InnoWe at WeSchool is an initiative for incubating innovative ideas

through activities such as expert talks with innovators, innovation

evangelists, venture managers, etc., as well as, co-creation workshops,

idea competitions, concept displays and so on to nurture the ecosystem

of innovation.

InnoWe Manthan talk series is an event where invited professionals, from the fields of design, innovation, and start-ups, share with the

students their journey from ideas to business. Manthan means to churn on to discover innovative insights, through observation, ideation,

and research.

Design Thinking and Innovation workshops for corporates is another activity that is part of the InnoWe agenda. Workshops were conducted

with companies like Infosys, Robert Bosch, and GE to explore new ideas for business as well as to ingrain an innovative corporate culture.

A Proto Lab is an extension facility to the InnoWe lab, where students can experiment with their ideas and concepts, by building, testing, and

validating them before they can be incubated for market-worthiness. Through this facility WeSchool encourages, facilitates & promotes

innovative entrepreneurship on campus. Through the InnoWe Lab and the Proto Lab, an ecosystem for next-gen business models is

generated, finally culminating into innovative businesses.

International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (ICSID)The '2014 Interdesign Mumbai' workshop, a collaborative initiative of WeSchool and The International Council of Societies of

Industrial Design (ICSID) successfully concluded in an exhibition at the WeSchool campus in Mumbai, which showcased

around 25 prototypes created by the participants.

Under the overarching theme 'Humanising a Metropolis', 30 designers from India and 8 other countries with different design

competences came together to address some of the social and infrastructure challenges facing the growing city of Mumbai.

The participants worked on 6 sub themes formulated based on the pre - research spearheaded by the WeSchool faculty. They

visited various precincts to further understand the design bottlenecks faced by the city focusing on key issues like drainage

system, waste management, challenges of creating an educational township, socializing in a metro, improving the outdoor

experience for citizens, chaotic shopping experience, lifestyle related health problems etc., and ideated on the viable

solutions which can be practically implemented.

With subthemes like 'Visualising Matunga as a University Township', 'Living with Rain', 'Zero

Waste Household', 'Redefining the Outdoor Experience', 'Health on the Go' and 'The Great

Indian Bazaar (Unorganized and Organized retail)', the exhibition of the prototypes at the

open house showcased how many of these solutions could later be applied in other Indian

metropolises and emerging international economies.

The aim behind this workshop was to try and bring about transformative changes that will

improve the living conditions in Mumbai by tackling existing issues through a designer's

holistic and abstract approach. At WeSchool, it has been our constant endeavour to give a

fresh learning experience to our students and faculty members by contributing to society and

hence, our attempt to bring positive reflexes will not cease at the planning level. Apart from

creating globally responsible leaders, WeSchool understands the much-needed impact of

social responsibility and will continue doing activities differently to make a maximum impact.

Innovative business models on renewable energy ready to hit the Indian market

The thought provoking Business Strategy Development Competition, the finale of India-Sweden Innovations Accelerator (ISIA) programme

successfully concluded on August 30, 2014 at WeSchool, Mumbai, where our students presented future-proof business models and

strategies on renewable/green energy that can be implemented especially in the energy starved rural India.

The business ideas designed by students teams were evaluated by an

external jury panel comprising of Ludvig Lindstorm, Country Director-

India, Swedish Energy Agency, Dr Anjali Parasnis, Associate Director-

Western Regional Centre, TERI, Srikant Illuri, Executive Director &

Country Head Investment, Business Sweden and Dr Christer Nygren,

Professor of Innovation at Malardalen University, Sweden. The

participants were evaluated through a rigorous process on parameters

like the originality of idea, clarity of thoughts on financial and marketing

aspects.

The winning team of Virendra Singh Shekhawat, Sagar Deshmukh,

Shashank Angadi and Omkar Ranade presented a business plan for

Exeger, a Swedish company that produces dye-sensitized solar cells.

These cells can be affixed to the massive glass frontages of skyscrapers

for garnering and storing solar energy which can be used by the building thereby not only creating solutions towards sustainability and

saving of costs but breaking new grounds, by moving closer to the goal of liberating devises from the grid, making them self-powered.

The winning team from WeSchool was rewarded with a fully sponsored 10 day internship giving them an overview of corporates in the green

energy sector in Sweden.

Prof Dr Uday Salunkhe, Group Director, WeSchool congratulated the participating teams and said, It is heartening to see such innovative

ideas coming from management students for a sector like renewable energy which is so crucial for the socio-economic prosperity of India. If

India has to provide energy for all by 2022, we have to work on all fronts; with newer and innovative technologies, research and international

cooperation to bring the alternate sources of energy into mainstream. With foreign investors eager to enter Indian markets, joint initiatives

like India-Sweden Innovations Accelerator play a crucial role in sensitizing the young talent to the constraints and challenges in the sector

and design solutions to circumvent them. I strongly believe that India Sweden Innovations Accelerator (ISIA) is a step in the right direction

wherein our students can work on challenges and opportunities to design a better future for India and the planet”.

Industry Round TablesAt WeSchool, our endeavor has always been to provide cutting

edge of business education. However, the word education always

has two sides to it – theory and practice. Strangely though, they

seem mutually exclusive. As someone has aptly said in good humor

– “Theory is when you know something but it doesn't work. Practice

is when something works and you don't know why”

This is often the classic disparity any MBA student faces after he

is just out of a B- School. We understand that today it is very

essential to create employable people and that is why we wish to

facilitate a dialogue with the corporate world to know better what

is expected from B-Schools and its graduates today.

Towards achieving this goal, has taken some decisive

strides to look beyond the obvious. One such initiative being

“Confluence: A Constructive Collision of the Greatest

Business Minds - a series of Industry roundtables”.

To engage in 'immersive techniques' and interact with 'people in

the thick of action' is integral to the learning methods at WeSchool

Last year WeSchool organised roundtables across 12 industry

verticals. Through these roundtables WeSchool brought together

over 600 industry professionals, who shared real-time challenges

and some of these are live projects that students are now working

on at WeSchool.

Management Education has changed over the years with emerging

unarticulated needs, realities, limited resources, globalization,

environment issues etc which needs a new approach both in terms of

thought as well as action.

WeSchool strongly believes in integrating the philosophy of

“Leadership” & “Innovation” with a design-thinking approach into

management education. To enhance the learning in the classroom,

a blend of case-studies, scenario planning, role-plays, audio-visual

material and experiential learning methods are used in addition to the

conventional classroom lecture method. Teaching through theatre,

literature, poems, films, and book reviews have been a popular medium

to connect with students to teach several management & leadership

principles which makes learning more experiential and fun as well. B-schools and companies have realized how theatre-kind of training can

develop various attributes among individuals and can determine group dynamics. At WeSchool we are going one step further by integrating

theatre and literature (particularly serious fiction) and helping our students to not just learn from the unique pedagogy but by selecting such

stories whose characters are often non-conventional leaders that teach many lessons on decision-making. While students engage in story-

telling, they also are guided to delve on the dilemmas in the stories that involve ethics, change management, adversity management etc.

The personalities from Bollywood shared their experiences with the students and faculty; be it Production, Direction, Script writing, Music,

Dance, Acting each of these aspects had tremendous learnings for Business Management Students to enhance their professional

approach.

Seminars with FICCI

Corporate Connect - Bengaluru

Productizing Innovation in India for Global Markets -

WeSchool, Bengaluru coducted a seminar on “Productizing

Innovation in India for Global markets”, sponsored by the

Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).

The participants included senior product managers from MNCs in

India and the theme was aligned with a growing trend witnessing

a rising number of Indian firms developing products for the global

market. Additionally, in the last two decades, Indian products

have carved a niche for themselves in the global market.

Businesses from India are taking the global stage on the strength

of their success stories. There were 4 esteemed guests who

spoke on this theme and gave valuable insights which bridged the

talent gap in product management and marketing.

Mr. Sridhar Jayanti's (Senior VP of Engineering and Managing

Director McAfee) initiated the workshop, on the topic Product

Innovation in India for Global Markets. Mr. Sridhar's talk started

with a pertinent question exploring the key elements necessaryto

innovate in India. He further elaborated saying that products

created in India were primarily due to the physical and economic

conditions of the country . The second speaker was Mr. Vivek

Kumar of Paypal who spoke about design thinking for product

managers.

Prof. Dr. Githa Heggde, Mr. Sridhar Jayant, Dr. Anil Rao, Ms. Shipra Chaterjee

According to him, design thinking was combining creative and

analytical thinking and applying it towards solving a specific

problem. Mr. Venkat Venugopal (Head, Development RM, R&D,

Ericsson Chennai), brought in the R&D perspective to the

seminar. The final speaker of the day was Mr. Pinkesh Shah, Head

of Adaptive Marketing. He shared how 'productizing' was now

possible in India and the process that he charted out began with

market analysis to strategic planning to product planning, going

to market and finally sales enablement. He then went on to

highlight the role of an engineering leader (who owns the

complete process of creating value) and the role of a product

manager (CEO of a product). India is now the global product hub

as it has the second fastest growing GDP in the world.

Apart from connecting with organizations, WeSchool also

encourages students to learn about working in international

groups through Universities it partners via student exchange

programs.

The Copenhagen Business School offered one such opportunity

where one of the WeSchool students with a Biotechnology

background selected a course in Marketing Communications

where he worked on a project with group members from Italy,

Turkey and Lithuania. This global exposure has also provided him

an opportunity to learn from social interactions with fellow

students from various continents such as Asia, America and

Europe. The perspectives they brought to the table has

broadened the student’s approach to learning and addressing

challenges in a dynamic corporate world.

Students Exchange Program

Benefits Undoubtedly, the internships offer a unique significant learning

opportunities for our students as it helps them garner global

experiences. The company too benefits in several ways; as an

outsider and being younger in age, students are able to bring in

fresh perspectives to any existing problem and give valuable

recommendations for the benefit of the company. The company

also assesses the holistic performance of the student, to whom

they could then potentially choose to make an employment offer

to, in the near future.

DurationStudent internships are generally defined for a period of 2 months

in May and June, is more convenient to carry out internships

during the student's summer break at the institute.

Alumni With the proliferation of social media platforms like Wattsapp, Facebook

and Twitter have collectively debunked the "six-degrees of separation"

theory, not only to connect with one another socially but also provides the

means for networking, marketing and advertising activities. But because of

this social media over-connectivity we have somewhere become

disillusioned to meet our peers personally. This trend was observed over

the past couple of years, when the attendance for the Alumni Day was falling

year on year.

Precisely to overcome this barrier and to share the happiness over

WeSchool’s unswerving growth and success as a bigger family over the

past few years, this year WeSchool had organized 2 alumni meets for its full time as well as its part time master's alumni. To revisit the

Nostalgia Lane, this year the theme for the alumni meets was “LETS MEET REAL TIME”

We welcomed over 850 Alumni dating back from first batch to the recently passed out alumni. This year we commenced the alumni meets

with a different format which different fun-filled engaging activities for our Alumni revisiting campus since their graduation. These diverse

activities ranged from a Cricket Match to a stand-up comedy act by one of India’s favourite cricket enthusiast Vikram Sathaye. It also

included a musically enchanting performance from the Koshish Rock Band to WeSchool’s own Band and Dance performance as well as a

special flash mob Dance by our Students and to top it all, an unforgettable and mesmarizing dance performance by our very own faculty

members led by our Group Director, Prof. (Dr.) Uday Salunkhe.

All in all both the meets were well attended and participated by our alumni. We at WeSchool also enjoyed the events and interacted with

many enthusiastic alumni which has encouraged us to host many such events in the future as well.
