SWIM BRIEF

SWIM PROCEDURES

• It is YOUR responsibility to know your swim start time, start position and where you need to be beforehand.

1. ZONE 1 - Athlete seating area / do your own thing – SEE MAP

2. ZONE 2 - Warm up lanes – SEE MAP

1. These area reserved for swimmers 2 heats away from time trial

2. Maximum of 8 per lane [there are 3 lanes and 24 athletes in each heat]

3. ZONE 3 - Muster area – SEE MAP

1. This area is for swimmers 1 heat away from time trial

2. Your name will be checked off in here.

3. Failure to report to the muster area will result in DNS.

4. Individual Start position – SEE MAP

1. 5mins before your heat starts you will be allowed to leave the muster area and report to your respective position. After the

time keeper has finished timing the heat, he/she will ask you to confirm your name.

ZONE 1 Athlete only - seating area

SWIM

• All athletes START on the respective LEFT hand side of the lane.

• 30secs before the start there will be a LONG whistle – this indicates you can get in the

water.

• The next whistle you hear will be the START.

• It is your responsibility to know when you have finished. If you have more lengths to do,

the timekeeper will immediately tell you.

• When you finish your swim, wait until you are told to get out of the water by your

respective timekeeper.

SUNDAY CHECK IN PROCEDURES -YOUTHS

• YOUTH MEN AND WOMEN.

• 0745 TO 0915 IN THE DINER

• BRING YOUR RACE LICENSE.

• YOU NEED TO;

• FILL OUT NEXT OF KIN EMERGENCY NUMBER ON BACK OF YOUR NUMBER.

• PUT ANY MEDICAL ISSUES / MEDIC ATION ON THE BACK OF YOUR NUMBER.

• YOU WILL BE NUMBERED ON YOUR RIGHT LEG.

SUNDAY CHECK IN PROCEDURES - JUNIORS

• JUNIOR MEN AND WOMEN.

• 1045 TO 1215 IN THE DINER

• BRING YOUR RACE LICENSE.

• YOU NEED TO;

• FILL OUT NEXT OF KIN EMERGENCY NUMBER ON BACK OF YOUR NUMBER.

• PUT ANY MEDICAL ISSUES / MEDIC ATION ON THE BACK OF YOUR NUMBER.

• YOU WILL BE NUMBERED ON YOUR RIGHT LEG.

BIKE – RUN COURSES

• BIKE

• YOUTH – 2 LAPS of 5km [total distance 10km]

• JUNIOR – 4 LAPS of 5km [total distance 20km]

• RUN

• YOUTH – 2 LAPS of 1.25km [total distance 2.5km]

• JUNIOR – 4 LAPS of 1.25km [total distance 5km]

TRANSITION AREA

• TRADITIONAL BIKE RACKING

• EACH ATHLETE HAS 50CM RACKING SPACE AND ‘BOX’ SPACE FOR RUN SHOES

IN T1 AND BIKE HELMET IN T2

• CHOSE YOUR OWN SPOT

• HELMET ATTACHED TO BIKE IN T1

• NO TOWELS

BIKE COURSE FAMILIARISATIONS

• There will be one full lap ridden.

• David Bishop will lead each familiarisation.

• No athlete is to ride in front of David.

• It is an opportunity to see the course – not race the course.

• Any athlete breaching this will start the race at the back.

BIKE-RUN START PROCEDURES

• You will line up in the order of your swim times – fastest first.

• Start when your start time ticks over on the clock.

• Run into T1

• Socks or bare-feet – no shoes on.

• Expectation is you ride in biek shoes, not trainers and clips.

• Any issues need to be brought to attention at registration.

BIKE SAFETY

• Marshals are around the course so athletes are always in a line of sight.

• Red flags = caution there has been a crash.

• If race needs to be stopped – it will be at the end of the respective lap.

• Every effort will be made to re-start the race with the groupings and time gaps as accurate as

possible.

• Depending on the time available either the bike will continue – or athletes will enter t2 and

go onto the run in the group order we have seen.

• You will need to listen and act on immediate information here.

LAPPED ATHLETES

• David Bishop will riding at the back of the race if he instructs you that you are being lapped

you MUST pull over .

• If any Marshals instruct you that are being lapped you MUST pull over

• Once pulled off the track make your way to the next nearest marshal STAYING OFF the

racing track - there is a concrete border

• They will instruct you which way to proceed back to Transition

• You must STAY OFF the racing track when doing this

• You are still able to run and can start once all non-lapped athletes have left T2

• You must report to the area between the full 5km lap dead turn and Transition entrance

(again staying off racing line).

• Report to Di Murray who will be waiting by the wheel stop.

RUN PENALTY BOX

• Penalties are for infringements in T1, bike, T2 or on the run course;

• Moving bike with no helmet on

• Mount bike before mount line

• Riding off the circuit

• Dismount bike after dismount line

• Equipment outside your ‘box’ area

• TRANSITION WILL BE MONITORED CLOSELY FOR ‘TIDYNESS’

• LOCATION – approximately 100m before finish line.

• NOTIFICATION – Numbers will be posted on the white board.

• PROCEDURE – 10 second time penalty served any time on the run.

ATHLETES NOT RUNNING

• You will be allowed to start at the bike at back of the race.

• You should still exit t2 as if you are running. This is to enable us to give you an accurate

bike finish time / position.

• You need to notify at registration on Sunday morning.

OVERALL RESULTS.

• Your overall time from swim, t1, bike, t2, run will be published.

• Splits will be;

• Swim [400m /800m]

• T1, bike and t2 combined time.

• Run [2.5km / 5km]
