Here we have Jesus with his disciples coming to this ‘deserted’ place in which the disciples tell Jesus to send them away. But Jesus ignores what the disciples asked for and told the person with the 5 loaves and 2 fishes to come to him and he raised them to his Father and then the food mulplied and all were feed. There is a great significance in this Gospel story, the significance is not the fact that Jesus performed a wonderful miracle, the significance is that Jesus came to a ‘deserted’ place where people gathered. As it was a deserted place this meant the people were of no value in the eyes of the disciples, but Jesus loved those gathered and feed them with the miraculous bread and fish. In a way this was a Eucharisc event in which the people were feed with heavenly food, but it is not the same as the Eucharisc food that we receive from the altar which is the Body and Blood of Jesus, this event is a lead up to the Eucharisc instrucons at the last supper. So let us not be like the disciples and ask people to ‘Go Away ‘but invite, share and love those who have been distant from our lives and maybe even distant from the Church. I once again thank all the vising priests who have assisted us in the last 2 months with Masses, devoons and various rites in the church. I welcome Fr Philip back this weekend and hope and pray he has had a wonderful break and is refreshed to connue in his priestly dues. Tuesday to Friday 9:30am Mass resumes once again in the Chapel of St Maria Gore. I also would like to thanks those people who have took it upon themselves to look aſter with the arrangement of fresh greenery and flowers over the last couple of months, this truly is stewardship in acon. I would like to send an open invitaon to parishioner’s, women and men, to join our new Altar Society, “The Guild of St Anthony” which will be assigned to look aſter the upkeep of fresh flowers/greenery, candles, up keep of the shrines and looking aſter the cleaning of liturgical wear such as corporals, altar clothes and purifiers. This is a VITAL ministry because God’s house is his home and we must as a community take the task of keeping it alive and beauful. I also thank the Community of the Risen Lord prayer group who clean the church, hall and toilets each week as part of their ministry. Please see me if you would like to join the guild here in the Parish to organise rosters etc. God bless you all, Hugo Chis Parish Catechist APPEAL FOR THE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITIES OF THE MIDDLE EAST Vacan City, 20 July 2014 (VIS) – “I have received with some concern the news from the Chrisan communies of Mosul, Iraq, and from other parts of the Middle East who, ever since the beginnings of Chrisanity, have co-existed there alongside their fellow cizens, making a significant contribuon to the good of society”, said the Pope aſter today's Angelus prayer. “Today they are persecuted. Our brothers are persecuted, they are cast out, they are forced to leave their homes without having the chance to take any- thing with them. To these people I wish to express my closeness and my constant prayer. Dear brothers and sisters, I know how much you suffer, I know that you have been deprived of everything. I am with you in faith in He Who conquered evil”. He urged them to connue their prayer for the situaons of tension and conflict that persist in many areas of the world, especially in the Middle East and Ukraine. “May the God of peace rouse in everyone an au- thenc desire for peace and reconciliaon. Violence cannot be overcome with violence. Violence is defeat- ed with peace! Let us pray in silence, for peace; all of us, in silence. Mary, Queen of Peace, pray for us!”.

Responsorial Psalm

Did you know? Jesus’ actions in the gospel mirror the actions of the

Eucharist. He takes the bread, blesses it and give it to the people.

The multiplication miracle is recounted in all four gospels John the Baptist was ordered to be killed by Herod

Antipas, who ruled under the Romans over the northern province of Galilee. Herod Antipas was the son of Herod the Great, who was King at the time of Jesus’ birth.

Jesus challenges his disciples to feed the five thousand themselves! How can we do that when there are many mouths that are empty? The challenge is met by the blessing from which makes everything possible. The psalm assures us, “The hand of the lord feeds us, he answers all our needs”.

Pondering the Word—Anawim Way Vol. 10 No 6 Do I believe that nothing can separate the love of

God or do I place limits upon him? When I am overwhelmed by the needs of others, do

I turn to the Lord or try to solve the problems myself? Am I an instrument of Jesus’ compassion and mercy toward others? Mary, make me an instrument of the love of God in the world.
