LEADERS NEWS Who would have thought we would be planning for wet weather on a Sports Day at the end of October? As if the year can get any crazier! Due to so many variables the timetable for the day hasn’t been published, as we will make changes if and when needed. The plan is to start the day with a health hustle, chants and welcome involving all students (and parents who want to stay for the welcome) with Junior Primary tabloid events until recess. Weather permitting the championship events will be held between recess and 12 noon, followed by the Primary tabloids and presentations at 2:30. We know some families would like the opportunity to take photos, so invite parents to the opening at 8:50 and closing presentation at 2:30 if it suits. A reminder that Monday is a school closure day and OSHC will be available. Book week was fun, and many classes accessed authors on-line with a focus on Reading. Liza in the Library organised a visit by Dr. Jarrad Elson, author of Cheetah the Cheater, and the Parade held Friday morning was an opportunity to mingle in the yard and share the great costumes and books. Teachers will shortly be planning classes for 2021, so if you have any specific requests or considerations you would like to make, please put in writing to the class teacher, or email to myself or Vicky Bashford [email protected] . While we can’t always please everyone, information relating to your child’s needs help with our future planning. Please let us know by next Friday, 6 th November. If you know your family is leaving the school next year and you are not in Year 6 and 7 we would love to know now for future planning. Discovery time for Rooms 1, 2 and 3 was an excellent example of authentic learning at its best. Students selected an “ology” to research and worked with mentors to present t heir information at an Expo held in the Hall. The learning students gained from the experience is much more than knowledge. Our school learner powers of communicator, collaborator, self-manager, thinker and researcher are evident, and I was very impressed with the conversations students had with all age groups relevant to their learning. Earlier in the year Rooms 21 and 22 held a wiz fizz STEM project, and on Tuesday week 5 (November our year 6 classes are holding a Business Expo, which has involved marketing, making and selling of a range of products. No pressure to buy but pre-sale information has been given to students interested. As the end of term gets busy, make sure you keep the evening of Tuesday, 1st December free for our End of Year Concert. Larissa has been busy working with our students, and class teachers are coordinating simple costumes and props. This year Miss Larissa has included some Christmas songs, so ask your child what their class is planning for the night. More information and programme will be sent out closer to the night. As we will be outside, this event can be enjoyed by us all. Our Year 7 graduation plans are proceeding, and the biggest change to the night will be limiting each student to 2 adults present in the Hall. We are looking at ways of ensuring all interested family members get to view the presentation. Discovery time for Rooms 1, 2 and 3 was an excellent example of authentic learning at its best. Students selected an “ology” to research and worked with mentors to present their information at an Expo held in the Hall. The learning students gained from the experience is much more than knowledge. Week 3 – Thursday, 29th October 2020

SCHOOL CLOSED – Monday, 2nd November

SAPSASA BASKETBALL On Wednesday the 21st of October, Edwardstown Primary School had a boys and girls team play in the Year 6/7 SAPSASA Basketball competition. The day started early for both teams attending Springbank High School to compete against other schools in our district. The girls had a great day and showed they worked hard in their practice. At the end of the day the girls finished a very respectable third in their group. The whole team

showed great teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the day. A big thankyou to all parents who helped on the day. Aaron Bland spent countless hours training the girls and taught them lots about the game, thank you for all your efforts. The year 7 boys team also had a great day finishing third overall out of 12 teams. The boys showed excellent team work and communicated well between each other throughout the day. Unfortunately, the boys did not make the final on the day, this did not matter as they learnt lots of other valuable lessons during their games. Thankyou to all parents who helped on the day with scoring. Craig Holly coached the boys and spent many hours training and helping the boys develop as a team, a big thank you – Simon Leek

MOUNTAIN BIKE COMPETITION

On the 16th of October Fred Hope represented Edwardstown Primary School in the SAPSASA mountain bike championships. With over 300 competitors the mountain biking championships is a popular and up and coming sport. Fred had a great day riding and gave his best efforts.

Your help with the program will greatly benefit students as they practice saving skills and also help our school with fundraising.
