They’re Smarter Than Your Average Bear! by Fr. Joe
St. Anthony Students have done it again! The ILEARN (formerly ISTEP) scores have been released by the state of Indiana and our bears have done well! I will let the state’s numbers speak for themselves. Below are the school averages for St. Anthony School (SAS), all the Catholic elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Indian-apolis, and the average of all the elementary schools in the state of Indiana.
The percentages below apply to this test only and do not equate with scores for traditional letter grades. The tests were taken this spring of 2019, on computers, by grades 3 through 8. This is the first time this test has been used and it was intentionally more difficult than previous tests.
We did well overall, but as you can see we did especially well in the ever challenging areas of Math and Science.
Math (all grades) Science (grades four and six) SAS 61 % SAS 67% Archdiocese 59 % Archdiocese 63 % Indiana 48 % Indiana 47
Language Arts (all grades) Social Studies (grade five) SAS 62 % SAS 52% Archdiocese 64 % Archdiocese 63 % Indiana 48 % Indiana 46%
Good work everybody, congratulations! Thank you parents, teachers and students!
“We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love,
and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.” (I Thes. 1:3, NIV)

HURRICANE RELIEF Recent news reports have made us very much aware that Hurricane Dorian brought about massive destruction to the Bahamas, leaving our brothers and sisters in these islands in dire need. Catholic Relief Services (CRS) is working with local partners to assess immediate needs, which are extensive on the devastated northern islands of Abaco and Grand Bahama. CRS emergency staff are on the ground working with Caritas Grenada to identify the greatest needs in the most heavily affected areas to provide food, emergency shelter, and safe water. Anyone wishing to support these relief efforts are asked to do so through Catholic Relief Services. Individuals may make contributions online by going to https://www.crs.org, or they may send checks made payable to Catholic Relief Services to: Catholic Relief Services, Attn: Theresa Chamblee, 1400 North Meridian St., Indianapolis, IN 46202.
