Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome to the 2019 school year. I trust you all had a safe and enjoyable holiday break and have returned

refreshed and looking forward to another eventful, exciting and engaging year.

It has been great to see parents coming into the school to meet and plan with their children’s teacher so we

can work together for your child to achieve.

The children have quickly settled into new classrooms with their new teachers and new classmates.

Area F (Senior secondary class) will be presenting our Assembly next week. This week students from Area F

have begun work experience and have ventured to ACTIV and Work Power. When our students graduate

their work experience hours will be on their WASA (West Australian Statement of Achievement ). All our high

school students have also commenced their studies for this year and these are also accredited on their WASA

at graduation. ASDAN units being completed this year include New Horizons: Getting to Know Yourself and

What You are Interested in, Independent Living (cleaning and cooking skills) Work Right (exploring different

jobs and things about the workforce). Our senior students are certainly busy and very focussed in their

learning.

School Board

There are four parent positions up for election on the School Board this year, due to Clarene Smith, Kikandi

Shandwe, Lorena Brown and Linda Starling completing their tenure. Anyone interested in the role of a School

Board Member is welcome to contact me, or to follow this link to the Department of Education’s information

page:https://www.education.wa.edu.au/school-councilsboards.

Parents who wish to nominate for the School Board, in the first instance, should simply email me

[email protected] to confirm your interest and receive a Burbridge School Board Member

representatives. All previous parent representatives are welcome to renominate.

Welcome to our new staff. This term we have 4 new teachers at Burbridge school and we look

forward to the experience and knowledge they will bring to their roles. Suzette Irvine is teaching in

Area B with her dynamic team (Karen, Alison, Maryann, Matt and Alyce). Annabel Lindsay-Smith is

in Area D. She worked with us last year in a DOTT role and now has her own classroom. Her

wonderful team consists of Tanya, Vio, Yvette and Matt. Sha Giordani has come on board with two

roles. She is job sharing in Area G with Lauren Blauuw and also has a DOTT role across the school.

In Area G she has the fabulous Yolande, Hannah, Georgie, Lisa, Maria and Kimo working with her. In

Area E we have Kylie Moffat and her wonderful team is Sharon, Blair, Juliana and Sung. Over the

next few newsletters we plan to introduce you to our classes and their staff. Stay tuned….

What have we been learning?

It’s hard to believe that it is already Week 3. We are very busy in Kindergarten and

Pre-Primary settling in, making new friends and saying hello to friends we already know.

A huge thank you to all the students for trying very hard to learn the new routines and

rules at school.

The students have also been demonstrating their ability to write their alphabet letters,

to write the numbers to 10 and using Key word language and AAC devices to talk about

events. They have also created some amazing artwork which have been placed on the

Area A artboard (beside the kitchen) and also outside the Area A door. This term the

theme for our learning is Rainbow colours. The students have been learning Key Sign

language to name their favourite colour.

Social Skills

We are continuing twice weekly with our integrated program with Koondoola school

Primary School. This will help to direct and support social skills in Kindy and PP.
