WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT FATIMA
Fatima is the most prominent approved apparition of the 20th century.
It became famous the world over, particular for its three-part message or "secret."
What does the bishop in white and
his journey represent?
The seers then saw in the
unapproachable light of God a
reflection of someone who, Lucia
says, "we had the impression . . . was
the Holy Father."
With the pope were others climbing a
mountain to a rough-hewn cross.
Mountains are traditional places where
man meets with God, the difficult
process of ascending the mountain
suggesting the perseverance required
to follow God. The ruggedness of the
cross depicted in the vision evokes the
harshness of the sufferings of Christ
and those who share in his sufferings.
The journey of the pope and those with him through the half-ruined city suggests that the Church must pass
through the destruction that accompanies war, and it evokes the suffering of the pontiff in witnessing this
destruction but being unable to stop it. This reflects the experience of many twentieth-century popes.
Watch the bulletin for more information and plan on attending the next event on
Friday, January 13th from 7-8:00 pm.
Please pray the rosary every day. Free Rosaries are available with instructions in many locations throughout
the church and near the tabernacle. On 1st Saturdays we will pray the Rosary at 8:15 am—other days at 8:25
am.
Each week we will have fresh flowers at Mary’s shrine. If you or your parish group would like to sponsor a
week please sign up at the Welcome Desk after weekend liturgies. Or sign up here:
http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0d4cafab29a46-flowers
You can provide the flowers or make a donation. Thank you to those who have already provided flowers.
Following daily mass on First Saturdays of each month we will have a Holy Hour of prayer and Scripture
readings and song. Join us on January 7th at 9:45am. Fr. Phil

STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE
Thank you for all your gifts!
Please remember your parish in your will
When he discovered that Mary was with child,
Joseph resolved to end their engagement with as
little disgrace as possible. But obedient to the voice
of God, he changed those plans and became instead
the protector of the child Jesus and His mother,
Mary. God grant that I may be as open to the
leading of the Holy Spirit.

"Just because something happens to be
legal does not make it moral, ethical
or right. Abortion is perhaps one of
the most dramatic examples of a
situation where something is legal,
but is very much a sin against God."
A.L. Barry, The Lutheran Church,
President of The Missouri Synod
