Our new Library is officially open!
We are delighted to launch our new school Library. The purpose of our new school Library is to provide a wide range of books and resources to support teaching and learning throughout the key stages, help children foster a love of reading and enable children to become independent motivated readers and learners for life. We will be allowing children to borrow books from the Library to bring home and share with parents. Please ensure you return all books to school and look after them carefully at home. I would like to say a huge thank you to Mrs Daniell and Mrs England for setting up our new Library and also to all par-ents, as the money you helped us to raise at the Summer Fun Day was used to purchase the new Library furniture.
We are also very excited to have a new SMART table in our new Library. A SMART table is the first multi-touch, multi-user de-vice for teaching early childhood skills. Children will be able to use their hands to complete interactive learning activities and games, encouraging collaboration and developing skills in reading, writing, grammar, maths and visual spatial awareness. Lots of the teachers and children have already been using it!
Earlier this month the children designed a school Christmas card for our school to send to local schools and people who help at our school, the winners were Cecilia in Snails, Mustafa in Dragonflies, Rebecca in Butterflies and Emaan in Beetles. Well done children!
We have now elected class reps for each class. The class reps will meet regularly with Mrs Hussain and will be able to help at class events and school fundraisers, and will help any parents in their class. Thank you very much for volunteering!

Nursery
Nursery have been very busy with their learning about dinosaurs. The children have been digging for dinosaur bones in the sand and exploring how to free the dinosaurs from the frozen eggs.
They have been practising their counting by putting the dinosaurs in a line and counting each dino-saur just once, using their counting finger. Keep practising your counting at home, Nursery!
Nursery have also enjoyed their learning about superheroes. They have dressed up, rescued people from tricky situations and enjoyed writing about their superhero en-counters.
Dragonflies
Dragonflies had an amazing time on their first school trip to Little Street. The children were extremely well behaved and were great ambassadors for our school. Even the people who run the centre com-mented on how tidy and well behaved our children were. Well done Dragonflies!
Take a look at our fun learning at Little Street.

Ladybirds Ladybirds are now taking part in whole class teaching and following the Year 1 National Curriculum for all lessons. The children are becoming more confident and independent and are working in groups for sus-tained periods of time.
In Maths they have been measuring and comparing lengths and using positional and directional language to describe the position of objects and finding number pairs to 5, 6 and 10. In Geography the children have been learning about different continents and linking it to our Space topic. They enjoyed looked at atlases to find out about the world. In English, the children have been learning to sequence sen-tences to retell stories and have used the story ‘Whatever Next’ as a focus.
Butterflies It has been a very busy and exciting time in Butterflies over the past few weeks!
The children loved their visit to the Life Bus where they learnt about different feelings and how to deal with them, as well as how to be a good friend.
They learnt about the different organs inside their bodies, their names and what they do. We learnt words like arteries, veins, intestines and lungs! The Great Fire of London puppet show was a huge success! The children loved
watching the show and then had great fun making their own puppets to remember and recall facts about The Great Fire. Thank you for your contributions of £3 to allow this to happen. The children were lucky enough to take part in a music workshop with Mr Allen. They got to play different instruments and create a piece of music like a real orchestra! The children had lots of fun.
A few reminders…..
Please hear your child read at home every day if possible—it really does make a huge differ-ence to the progress they make.
Attendance has slipped a bit lately—it is vital that children attend school regularly so that they make progress and do not fall behind in their learning.
Please make appointments out of school time.

Key Stage 1 Update
Life Bus
On the 10th and 11th November children at Maybury took a ride on the Life Bus. Children in Key Stage Two took part in a range of activities: Beetles met the brain; Glow Worms had to think about important life decisions; Spiders thought about their friendships and Ants learnt all about how it was great to be them! The children thoroughly enjoyed their sessions on board the Life Bus and would like to thank Colin for the experience.
Greek Pottery
Children in Ants have been learning all about ancient Greece. As part of their DT and art project the chil-dren designed and created their own Greek pots. There are definitely some very talented children in Ants class.
Remembrance Day
On 11th November, Armistice Day, the children in Glow Worms walked into Woking town centre to watch, and take part in the Remembrance Day parade. The children met some gentlemen who fought in World War Two, who were happy to answer all the children’s questions. They also met the new Major of Woking. The children were very polite and acted as brilliant representatives of the school. Well done Year 6!

We thoroughly enjoyed Children in Need day on November 13th. The theme this year was ‘Champions of Change’, encouraging the children themselves to be at the heart of organising events. Our children cer-tainly rose to the challenge!
The Learning Council members were keen to have extra things to do and had lots of exciting ideas! The end result was a day of fun, including games and activities at lunch time. The older children helped to run the events and members of staff joined in with enthusiasm. We had nail decorating, face painting, ‘Pin the Patch on Pudsey’, Skittles Challenge and much, much more! The wonderful ladies in the kitchen helped to make the day extra special by making delicious Pudsey cookies for all the children.
This, along with our Pudsey themed fancy dress and Cake Sales across the school, meant that we made over £520 which is incredible and a record for Maybury!
Thank you again to everyone who helped to make the day such a success; not least to those of you who
donated cakes and came to buy too. The children are so proud of their achievements and they can’t wait
for the next event!

Learning Council
Parent learning workshops will now take place once every fortnight so hopefully this will give parents enough notice to attend the workshops which apply to them.
Mrs Hussain completed questionnaires with parents at the end of the Summer term to find out what had been useful and what else you would like to over during our workshops.
Due to the success of our 'Routines' workshop Mrs Hussain will be running it again on Monday 7th Decem-ber for Snails and Bumble Bee parents. It will be at 2.30pm in our R&R room. Invites will be sent out to remind parents next week.
This workshop will give you the opportunity to discuss what a 'good routine' should look like at home and how you can help to best prepare your child for Nursery. You will also have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have and share possible techniques.
Check the website for new workshops and any changes that have been made.

Last year we made some changes to our school curriculum, in line with the new National
Curriculum 2014. This year all of our children, from Year 1 to year 6, are following our new
school curriculum. I am writing to inform you of some of these changes and how they impact
on different year groups, following information shared at parents evening this week.
Previously the children have been assessed against levels. Typically each child should finish
Key Stage One as a level 2b and finish Key Stage Two as a level 4. These levels no longer ex-
ist. Children will now be assessed against the end of Key Stage One expectations and the end
of Key Stage Two expectations. At the end of each year children will be assessed as below
expected (beginning), expected or above expected (embedded). The children are being regu-
larly assessed against the end of year expectations for their current year group. These as-
sessments then support the teachers by informing their planning.
Year R- The assessment in Year R remains unchanged and uses 3 broad bands of
‘emerging’, ‘expected’ and ‘exceeding’; The expectation is for children to achieve
‘Expected’ in ALL areas of learning at the end of Year R this would mean a child would
be considered nationally as having a ‘good level of development’. Progress is consid-
ered in terms of where each individual child was on entry.
All other year groups are being taught and assessed using the New National Curriculum
2014. This has “raised the bar” in terms of end of year expectations. Teachers will re-
port to parents as to where their child is on their journey to meet the end of year ex-
pectations (beginning, expected or embedded).
This is similar to the Early Years where by children are grouped broadly into 3 bands:
New National Curriculum Outcomes New terms to get to grips with linked to new curriculum expec-tations of outcomes for that year.
Working below end of year group expectations Beginning
Working within the end of year group expecta-tions
Expected
Secure and working to extend breadth and depth of knowledge and skills
Embedded
