Accommodations for Students with Dyslexia Students with dyslexia need accommodations in the classroom and on the state assessments. We’ll examine appropriate accommodations based on a student’s needs. The goal is to provide equitable access to on-grade level instruction and assessment.

Scientific Spelling Teachers will be trained in Neuhaus Education Center’s research-based curriculum for scientific spelling. Participants learn the reliable spelling patterns of the English language, the major spelling rules, and a multisensory procedure for permanently memorizing irregular words. Scientific Spelling supplements any spelling textbook. Participants will receive the "Scientific Spelling" manual with reproducible pages. The new ELAR TEKS for spelling will be incorporated into this training.

Dysgraphia 101 In the Texas definition of dyslexia, dysgraphia is a related disorder. In this session we’ll explore definitions of dysgraphia, the signs of dysgraphia, and the basics in the diagnosis of dysgraphia. Teachers will learn strategies and accommodations that address the specific needs of students with dysgraphia.

Multisensory Strategies for Reading Instruction For students with dyslexia, reading disabilities, and many struggling readers, multisensory instruction provides the type of input necessary to learn to read. Participants will learn multisensory strategies and activities for teaching a complete reading lesson cycle and the practice activities that assure mastery of essential reading skills. This workshop can be presented as a one-day or two day session. More strategies will be presented in the two-day session.
