Spring Time! Wow! What a winter we have had! Even in San Antonio,

our schools were closed due to several occasions of inclem-

ent weather. This weather has given me the inspiration to

help our customers with tips on how to better their facility. I

discussed tips with my Chairman of the Board, Maury West-

erdale, who had facilities in the Detroit area. He enlight-

ened me with what all needs to be done after a snowstorm.

This issue also shares how one of our customers, Jay

Kinder, uses his truck and the benefits he sees from it. By

reading this article, maybe you will get some ideas for the

use of your truck. Bill Roberts of Great Value Self-Storage

tells us how he uses our tenant protection program, Secure-

Lease. He has seen some outstanding returns! We can all

learn from each other and share our experiences.

After reading this issue, you may realize that we are con-

stantly thinking of new products to better our product line

and increase revenues for our customers. Check out our

1903 Olds Replicars and food trucks. They are truly unique

and could be used in multiple industries.

We’re really excited about our new magazine and really

want it to grow. We have doubled the size from our first

issue but could really use your help. This magazine is for

you to enjoy and for you to share your experiences with

your truck, business, and anything else you would like! Any

testimonials or any articles about your business, we would

love to share with all of our customers. Please submit to me

at [email protected].

On The Move News

NameMarcia Mattick

Where are you from? Boerne, TX (5th generation to settle there)

Position at On The Move Office Manager

When and how did you start working at On The Move?I started working for On The Move in January 1998 (16 years ago) after being laid off by the FDIC. After I was laid off, I started a small business (nail salon) and Susan Nash, the CEO of On The Move was one of my customers. During one appointment in late 1997, she stated that she really needed some administration help with On The Move ASAP. At that point I needed a real job, and the rest is history!

How does your family know the CEO’s family? I was On The Move’s 1st employee and since the original offices were located in their home, our families quickly blended. My daugh-ter was a couple of years older than Susan’s daughter, CJ (who is now the Marketing Director of On The Move) and the girls quickly

became friends. My daughter would also babysit Susan’s youngest daughter, Jacquelyn Nash, who also works here at On The Move (Ac-count Executive).

Favorite thing about working at On The Move. I really like the work I do (accounting, etc). On The Move has always had a family atmosphere. We work hard but have always been re-warded with employee appreciation outings!

I’m happiest when...I have my children and grandchildren around me.

Funny Memory with OTMMany people don’t know this but when I first started working for OTM, the office was based out of their home. Three of us worked out of an empty bedroom turned home office. To say the least is was a little crowded in there. When their 6 year old daughter, Jacquelyn, came home from school, she would join us in the “office” and help out! Well, OTM has really grown since then!

W While the days of plastering your face on a park bench may be

behind us, utilizing unique advertising and innovative marketing

techniques is still one of the top ways to garner word-of-mouth.

Jay Kinder, CEO and co-founder of the National Association of

Expert Advisors and Kinder Reese Real Estate Advisors, has been in

the real estate industry for 16 years.

“To be successful in real estate,

it’s important to build a recog-

nized brand in your market,” says

Kinder, who currently has an office

in Lawton, Okla., and a soon-to-be

opened brokerage in Frisco, Texas.

“Marketing is simple. How many

impressions can you make on your

target market?” Kinder asks.

Heightened impressions and

superior branding is exactly what

drove Kinder to begin advertising

on the side of an On The Move

moving truck in 2005. The company

provides real estate firms with trucks

featuring custom graphics, turning a

vehicle into a moving billboard that

costs less than a traditional bill-

board, allowing firms to reach their

target audience by simply driving

around town.

In addition to the advanced

marketing placement, agents can also choose to offer their trucks

to clients free of charge, placing themselves above the competi-

tion and adding extra value for their clients. Exceptional customer

service, a new house and a free moving van? That’s a no-brainer

for most homebuyers.

“The clients that use our van appreciate that we have it and it’s

not an extra expense they have to deal with,” says Kinder. “We

are saving them time, money and frustration.”

Aside from garnering eyeballs, differentiating yourself from the

competition is the ultimate marketing goal.

“In the sea of similarity, you have to be focused on innovation,”

explains Kinder. “What differentiates you from the competition? You

can mail 10,000 postcards and get zero response. It doesn’t mean

postcards don’t work. It means your message wasn’t compelling.”

Kinder notes that his company’s van is used every day. When

not lending it out to

clients, Kinder donates

the use of the van to

charitable events.

“The bottom line is

I can attribute multiple

deals annually specifically to the moving van. We’re receiving

‘come list me’ calls from people wanting to list with us based on

seeing our van. It helps build top-of-mind awareness.”

And, according to Kinder, choosing On The Move was a win-

ning decision.

“They do everything for you. They know what works. They know

we don’t have time to set up lease agreements, and we don’t

have a design team to create our wraps. They make it turnkey.

Just like we’ve sold thousands of homes, they have set up thou-

sands of real estate brokers and teams successfully.

“The moving van was just another way to further differentiate

myself from other real estate companies by offering a valuable,

relevant service to my clients and creating awareness for my busi-

ness at the same time,” concludes Kinder.

“What’s Cooking?” Food Trucks

One of the fastest growing food trends in the country today are food

trucks. Food customers have swarmed to find food trucks looking to eat

something different and new. They want to try a new menu item each time

they visit. This is a lucrative business for the new age business owner.

On The Move has joined the food truck arena as the country’s first and only

total custom food truck builder. We simply start with a truck and chassis then

visit with each customer and build, from the ground up, a one of a kind truck

specifically designed to meet their needs. What are you serving? How many

do you plan to serve each day? Questions like these help us build a truck

suited specifically for the right amount of business. Our trucks are not too

large, but efficient enough to serve over 1000 meals per day.

With attractive leasing options, On The Move can make this a very low

start-up for the new Food Truck operator. Large multi-location restaurant

groups have jumped on board and use the truck as a marketing tool to find

the best demographic area for their next location or use the truck for brand-

ing at a festival or event. Major Universities are another great customer who

offer another option for their students and catering events. They also use the

truck for business or culinary students as a training tool.

Our slide out is part of the unique design that allows the servers to be at

face level with their customers unlike anything in the industry. Additionally,

the slide out provides more work space for the servers and cooks. On The

Move customizes the interior with the kitchen equipment needed to prepare

and serve the operator’s menu items. Additionally, it has a built-in generator,

water holding tanks (both fresh and grey) as well as an optional soda dispens-

er and serving counter on the outside of the truck.

Whether you are a large restaurant or an entrepreneur looking for a new

business opportunity, On The Move can offer you a custom truck to serve

your customers and grow your business.

O On December 1, 2012 World Class Capital

began to offer On The Move’s SecureLease Ten-

ant Protection Program at eight of its Great Value

Self-Storage facilities. With the success of the

initial roll out, SecureLease was soon offered at

all thirty-six Great Value locations.

According to Bill Roberts of World Class Capi-

tal, SecureLease added 84% margins above the

program it replaced. Bill went on to say “Secure-

Lease was instrumental in World Class Capital

exceeding its revenue forecasts and meeting

its investment goals.” On The Move Insurance

Agency is proud to include Great Value Self-

Storage in its SecureLease program. SecureLease

provides insurance covering the tenant protec-

tion risk for nearly 10% of the top 100 operators.

For 2014 On The Move Insurance Agency con-

tinues its success with a 100% policy renewal rate

for its policy insuring tenant protection risk. The

policy, written by an A rated carrier, allows On

The Move Insurance Agency’s customers to offer

tenant protection at the highest reported margins

in the industry. Visit www.getsecurelease.com for

On The Move, Inc. has been known to create unique products since 1992 when they opened their doors. From their unique truck rental program to food trucks, On The Move has now recreated the 1903 Oldsmobile car into an affordable electric car. Maury Westerdale, Chairman of the Board for On The Move, was once a Self-Storage facility owner outside the city of Detroit, MI. He was lucky enough to have Gene Autry as a tenant at his self-storage

facility, until Gene Autry passed away. After Gene Autry passed away, his family came to empty the self-storage unit he was renting from Maury. As the family was emptying the unit, Maury noticed 2 1903 Oldsmobile Replicars, and was lucky enough to become the proud owner of these two nostalgic vehicles. Gene Autry had used them to promote his radio station in the Detroit, MI area. In 2011, the two 1903 Oldsmobile replicars were shipped to the On The Move, Inc. headquarters in Boerne, TX. On The Move, Inc. started to restored the vehicles as best as they could since parts were hard to locate. They had to engineer some parts themselves to make the project successful. The project took a little more than a year to complete. During this time, Maury had the idea to modern-ize the two replicars . He added disc brakes to the front wheels and drum brakes to the rear wheels along with a manual parking brake. Instrumentation was another critical addition to the new design. A speedometer along with an odometer and a battery monitor for the 6 eight volt batteries needed to power the replicar. The steering is tiller controlled and the suspension is made with leaf springs which allows for a nice smooth and comfortable ride. Whether you are a car enthusiast, or savvy business owner, the 1903 Oldsmobile replicar is perfect for you. The replicar is ideal for short rides, and a great business icon in front of your store or in your local parade. The 1903 will turn heads! Call On The Move today at 800-645-9949 to learn more on how you can own your personal 1903 Oldsmobile replicar.

On The Move is always looking for ways to make everyday life easier. We know that people struggle with organization and storage. After developing a box for our self-storage customers, we realized the benefits of having such a durable box and wanted to open the opportunity up to the general public. After several months of design work, we now offer three different designs to fit your personality. Are you a pink fanatic that has too many clothes to fit in your closet and drawers? We have the solution for you; our pink floral wardrobe box. This box is not only cute but practical! It is corrugated plastic which makes it moisture resistant, more durable than cardboard boxes and environmentally friendly! What’s better than that? Is pink floral not your thing? We have the box for you too! Our teal damask box is elegant and perfect for women with more refined taste. It still has all the advantages of the pink floral box but might fit your personality a little better. Don’t worry men and women who don’t fit in the above categories! We have one more box fit for you! It looks like a discrete closet so you can hide it in your room and it not draw as much attention as the other 2 boxes we offer.

These are also a solution for storing your “skinny” clothes and your maternity clothes. These plastic corrugated plastic wardrobe boxes are a pregnancy necessity. While you are growing, your closet is not! Let our boxes help you organize your “skinny” clothes. These boxes will keep your clothes safe during your pregnancy and beyond. Whether you need 1 or more, we can help organize your clothes and keep you styling in the process. Give On The Move a call at 800-645-9949 to order your Add-A-Closet today. A After the recent “Polar Vortex,” now is the time to evaluate the cleanliness of your storage facility. Many facilities may not realize the havoc snow and ice may have on a facility. There are also things you should do every year to keep your facil-ity maintained. Read these tips to see how to get your facility spick and span and freshen up your image!

Outside:After the snow melts, there often is a lot of unwanted dirt left on your paved areas. Hire a sweeper to come in and professionally clean your paved areas.

Wash your office windows.

Clean all of your unit’s doors. To avoid damaging your tenant’s belongings, hand wash the doors with a bucket of water and light soap and a hand towel.

Bleach clean the inside of vacant units to get rid of any unwanted odors.

Update landscaping and mow lawn.

Repaint areas that may have been damaged by snow plows scraping doors and poles etc.

Make sure your truck is well maintained by keeping your graphics up to date. Check your tire pressure, windshield blades, and to see if you need an oil change. Always keep your truck clean!

Inside:Use banker’s boxes to store old files and leases.

Organize your computer desktop by creating folders.

Check all of your links to make sure you are not sending potential customers to page-not found messages.

Update your customer lists. Send customers an email or call them to verify that you have their current address.

Make sure your brochures are organized on your counters and up to date.

Spring Clean-Up TipsBy CJ Steen, Marketing Director

By following these tips, your facility will stay well maintained and one step in front of your competitor. The nicer the facility, the more likely potential customers will trust you to store their belongings and that you will retain current customers.
