November 19, 2014 Miami, Florida

Dear Colleague;

On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the staff of Caribbean Central

American Action, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the 38th Annual

Conference on the Caribbean and Central America.

It is a pleasure to be back in South Florida after a three-year hiatus,

and it is especially a pleasure to reconnect with so many of our

friends. We have been very encouraged by the welcome, and we

would particularly like to thank our co-hosts at Enterprise Florida,

along with our collaborating partners at The Beacon Council, Florida

International Bankers’ Association, Miami-Dade County – Economic

Development and International Trade Unit, PortMiami, and World

Trade Center Miami. I would also like to personally thank our

colleagues from FECAICA who bring us such wonderful support every

year and who are such a valuable part of the CCAA family.

We are very proud of the program that we have put together this year.

We have attracted a high-caliber gathering who bring incredible depth

of knowledge about our region. We already know from some of the pre

-panel meetings that have taken place over the last few weeks that

this year will more than meet the consistent high quality of discussions

that you know to expect from a CCAA program.

While you are here, please take the opportunity to meet with the

great organizations and companies that are in the Exhibit Hall. Our

thanks to all of our Exhibitors – we hope that you make valuable

contacts and establish new partnerships through your investment here.

A special word of thanks to all of our Sponsors. You made this

Conference possible and we look forward to working with you again.

And finally, to all of our participants: thank you so much for joining us

this year. We hope that you have a productive conference. Take the

time to talk to all of the staff from CCAA and get to know us – but

more importantly, meet your fellow participants and make new

contacts, create new partnerships, and leave the 2014 Conference

certain that you will be back with us again in 2015.

Thank you!

Sincerely;

Sally Yearwood Executive Director Caribbean Central American Action

TRADE:

TPP, TTIP, and other negotiations: are we prepared for the

As global trade agreements get bigger and more comprehensive,

many of the countries in Central America and the Caribbean are

still working to fully benefit from, inter alia, DR-CAFTA, the US-

Panama FTA, CBI, HOPE, European, and Canadian trade

agreements, and sometimes seem unsure whether to play

offense or defense. This panel will make the case for a strong

offense.

ENERGY (Part 2):

The keys to the region’s medium-term energy security?

LNG, CNG, LPG, and DME all offer interesting options for the

region’s energy matrix. There are prevailing questions of

financing, transport, and infrastructure development, but if this

is the future, the countries that stand to benefit from these

fuels need to make important decisions today.

Alabama State Port Authority/Port of Mobile The Port of Mobile is one of the United States’ largest seaports in overall cargo volume handling more than 55 million tons annually. The full service, public seaport terminals serve containerized, breakbulk, dry and liquid bulk, refrigerated proteins, and oversized / heavy lift cargoes. Infrastructure and terminal investments top $750 million USD serving both Panamax and Post-Panamax sized vessels. A new intermodal container transfer facility (ICTF) connecting containerized cargo shippers to five Class I railroads will extend market access into the Southeast, Midwest, and the Ohio and Tennessee River valleys by year-end 2015. The Alabama State Port Authority’s public terminals connect to two interstate systems (I-10 and I-65), 5 Class I railroads (CSX, Canadian National, Burlington Northern Santa Fe/Alabama & Gulf Coast Railroad, Norfolk Southern and Kansas City Southern), and is home to the C.G. Railway, which provides waterborne rail service every four days to and from Mexico. The Port of Mobile connects to 15,000 miles of inland and Intracoastal waterways providing low cost water access to ports along the Gulf of Mexico, the Tennessee, the Ohio, and Upper Mississippi Rivers. The transportation assets coupled with a strong labor market and community-state-federal support make the Port of Mobile one of the nation’s fastest growing ports. Ron Botrán Originally a name recognized for sugar cane production, the Botrán family rum legacy began in Quetzaltenango a city poised in highlands of Guatemala. This is where five brothers discovered the ideal conditions for high-altitude, slow aging of rum. Since establishing Industria Licorera Quezalteca in 1939, the Botrán family has been involved in every detail of their signature rum production. By growing and hand selecting only the choicest varietals of sugar cane from the fields of their Guatemalan estate, the Botrán family ensures that the raw material of their rums exceeds even the strictest standards. But the true character of Botrán rums is born from their unique adaptation of an age-old nurturing process called “Sistema Solera” that involves meticulous blending of younger and older rums as they age for years in a combination of seasoned white oak barrels. By taking a hands-on approach throughout the entire process, Botrán – the first family of Guatemalan rum – continues to carefully cultivate its reputation as producers of the world’s

Caribbean-Central American Action is a 501 (C) (3) not-for-profit organization whose membership is comprised almost entirely of private sector

representatives. It is the only organization based in Washington, D.C., whose mandate is solely focused on the issues impacting the business

community investing and operating in the countries of the Caribbean Basin.

CCAA collaborates with private and public organizations around the world to advance a shared agenda. Its advocacy responds to and reflects a

constituency. CCAA is neither single issue nor single country-focused – it promotes regional trade investment in all sectors that can contribute to

a responsible and secure region.

For 38 years, CCAA has hosted the Annual Conference on the Caribbean & Central America. The Conference brings together senior public and

private sector leaders to discuss trade, economic and policy issues as a means to encouraging understanding of the opportunities and challenges

in the region.

The event continues to be the only annual forum that focuses solely on the economies of the Caribbean and Central America. It has helped

shape policy and influence trade and investment through a format that features policy and business leaders in keynote addresses, plenary

discussions, and interactive roundtables. Subject areas include CCAA’s focus issues to ensure that there is continuity of programming throughout

the year. This way CCAA maintains its role as a voice for the region on the topics that dominate the countries’ economic agendas.

For more information on CCAA’s past programs and events, please visit our website at www.c-caa.org. For information on how to become a

member of CCAA, contact Nathan Tuebner, Senior Program Director at [email protected] or (202) 464-2031.
