PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
VISION: North Haven Public School, in partnership with our community, promotes and provides a dynamic, future-focused learning environment fostering equity and excellence. Our school will deliver opportunities for every
student to become a successful learner and a caring, confident, creative individual.
Student Wellbeing teacher role I’m sure you would all agree it has been a stressful time as we deal with the uncertainty of coronavirus (COVID-19) and experience reduced physical interaction, event cancellations and intense media coverage. We have noticed a significant increase in the number of students feeling overwhelmed, anxious and/or stressed in recent months. It’s important we help students to feel a sense of control and develop strategies for maintaining their own wellbeing. In response to this student need, we have created a Student Wellbeing Teacher role for three days a week within our school. This role will include (but is not limited to): • Supporting the social and emotional wellbeing of students; • Providing students with the opportunity to further develop positive values, mindsets and behaviours; • Working collaboratively with teachers as part of the School Learning and Support Team and • Establishing partnerships with parents and other agencies to involve students and families in decision-making and ensure appropriate assessment of, and intervention for, students. This role will be filled by Mrs Lyndal Bruggemann (Monday – Wednesday) and in order for this to happen we have had to make some staffing changes. Miss Michelle Parry will be the 5/6B class teacher Monday – Wednesday with the Thursday and Friday timetable remaining the same.
We will trial this initiative for the next four weeks until the end of Term 3 and then evaluate its impact to determine whether we continue resourcing this role until the end of the year. It is well established that student wellbeing and resilience go hand in hand with engagement in learning, academic attainment and social development. We are very excited about this opportunity to support our students to be healthy, happy, successful and productive individuals who are active and positive contributors to our North Haven school and wider community. We will be seeking feedback on this initiative throughout the next 4 weeks. If you would like to provide this feedback, have any questions or need any further information, please contact the school on 02 6559 9261. CHHS Year 6 Orientation Day - Postponed Due to the updated Term 3 guidelines for schools, Camden Haven High School has had to cancel the Year 6 Socialisation Day scheduled for the first week of Term 4. A modified Orientation Day will still be held later in Term 4 and we will share further details as soon as we receive them (closer to the date). SRC Leadership Summit Port Macquarie-Hastings Council (PMHC) is hosting a virtual Future Think Youth Summit. During these challenging times this is a great opportunity for

Principal’s Message continued students to connect with peers from other schools. Participating students will join the event from a classroom within our school. The Primary School Summit, which is being held on Mon 14 September between 10am-2pm, is an opportunity for students to have a voice in the formation of the PMHC Community Strategic Plan by sharing their brilliant ideas regarding the future of our region. Students will realise that their opinion matters! Students will also hear from inspiring people who make a difference to the world while exploring the themes of Connection, Creativity and Sustainability. Fun design sprint challenges will make the day hands on and fun. Kind Regards,
Kate Brace Relieving Principal
