PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE:

As the Christmas season approaches, it is a time of reflection for the many blessings in our lives. I personally feel blessed

that I have the privilege of working with such a compassionate staff and phenomenal group of students, who care deeply for

those around them. Our students participated in “Operation Christmas Child” by filling 150 shoeboxes with gifts for needy chil-

dren in the Third World. We are always pleased with the generosity and citizenship of our students. We wish to thank-you Ms.

Christmas and her class for coordinating the project. I truly believe actions speak much louder than words.

Our Rotary-Interact club held an awake-a-thon on November 21 and 22, 2014, which raised $13,200 to contribute to

Nokor-Tep Women’s hospital building fund in Cambodia. This surpassed their target of $10,000. Our students are an active group

in the world wide efforts to build the first women’s hospital in Cambodia. If you would like to know more or donate to this worthy

cause, please contact the school for more information (Ms. Blimke). In addition, over $1000 worth of winter clothing (gloves,

toques, etc) were donated for “Warmth for the Wandering,” a charitable effort created by our interact students. The products

will go to Grande Prairie's less fortunate and homeless. We are sincerely impressed that over 200 students participated in the

awake-a-thon. Another thank-you goes out to our dedicated staff you organized and supervised the event.

Our Christmas Band concert is scheduled for December 3, 2014 at 7 pm at GPRC. Mrs. Zmean is a talented Band teacher

who brings out a memorable performance from all of her students. Please join us for a memorable night. Our Glee Club is putting

on a Christmas concert at the school on December 16 at 7:00 pm. Tickets are $7.00. They will also be collecting donations for Sun-

rise House.

We would like to encourage parents to attend our Christmas mass, turkey dinner, and Air Band competition/talent show

on December 19, 2014. It is a day where we focus on building connections and celebrating our faith as a school community. Our

students involved in Skills will be making the Christmas dinner as a fundraiser. It is a perfect opportunity for showing the multi-

dimensional talents of our students here at St. Joe’s.

My wish for December is that all of our students have a wonderful holiday that is filled with faith, love, and joy.

The Skills team would like to thank Southview IGA for their donation of Tur-keys for the Christmas

Dinner Fundraiser. St. Joe’s Annual

Air band Competition

Every year on the last day before Christmas break begins, we at

St. Joe's enjoy a few traditions. First thing that morning, stu-

dents meet with their STRIVE classes for some holiday fun.

Then we are all transported to the church for Mass. Immediate-

ly following that, we are treated to a delicious turkey dinner put

together by a huge group of volunteers. After everyone has had

their fill of turkey, we have our Annual Airband Competition!

Staff compete, students compete, sometimes whole teams com-

pete! Cash prizes are awarded in a variety of categories and

everyone always has a good laugh. The sign-up sheet will be

placed in the Library. Just list your group members and the

song you've chosen. On Dec. 19th (or before), bring your music

(on CD, iPod, iPhone, etc) to Ms. Martin. Prize Categories in-

clude: Best Impersonation, Best Moves, and Funniest.

Jesus: God’s Amazing Gift

Announcing the arrival of the prophet’s dream. On Christ-

mas day, Jesus Christ, the son of the living God, is born

among us. Jesus is the most amazing gift we will ever re-

ceive, our Savior and our Lord.

Advent is a time of preparation for the birth of the child

who will set us free. During this month of December we

look at, reflect on and act on the opportunities we have to

prepare our minds and hearts here on earth for the arrival

of the one for whom the prophets foretold long ago. To

prepare ourselves to receive the gift of Christ’s love and

remove any boulders that might be getting in the way of that

love truly making a difference in our lives.

“Prepare the way of the Lord” said Isaiah in chapter 40:1-

11, and thus began the dream of a people looking for hope,

looking for freedom, looking for a life far better than the

life they were living. In the birth of Jesus Christ, that dream

is fulfilled.

Christmas Band Concert

Wednesday, December 3, 2014

7 pm, Grande Prairie Regional College Theater

Admission $5 for adults, children free.

The program will feature pieces from the band students from our own schools, grades 5 through 12.

There will also be draws and a silent auction. Proceeds support our band program.

Please come out and support our band students and enjoy an evening of music and Christmas festivity.

St. Joes Rotary Interact Hosted a very successful 24 hour Wake-a-thon November 21st.
