Dear colleagues

I’m extremely proud to announce this year’s recipients and special mentions for the 2017 Metro South Health Board Chair’s Awards.

Staff members from across Metro South Health were honoured at a ceremony for their commitment and dedication to patients and the community, with more than 300 people attending at the PAH auditorium and via video conference from across Metro South Health.

This year we had an impressive 65 nominations across nine award categories.

I’m always impressed by the culture of innovation and excellence, as well as the dedication to patient care, across all areas of Metro South Health. Well done to everyone for a fantastic year of achievements and congratulations again to all the award recipients.

Kind regards

Terry White AO, ChairMetro South Health

Auxiliary celebrates big year The Redland Hospital Auxiliary has been named the

Board Chair’s Volunteer of the Year. The award recognises an individual volunteer or team of volunteers for their dedication and commitment to our patients.

The Redland Hospital Auxiliary was first established in 1987 and currently boasts 114 members.

The Auxiliary celebrated their 30th year of operation in March this year.

Members regularly donate craft items which are sold through the on-site kiosk and run raffles to raise funds to purchase hospital equipment, furnishings and other items for patients’ comfort at the hospital.

Each Christmas, the Auxiliary fund a Santa program where they visit with our patients providing them with gifts they have made and acquired. This act of kindness from the Auxiliary shows our patients that the community are thinking of them while they are in our hospital instead of celebrating the festive season at home with their families.

In the 2016 calendar year, the Auxiliary made ten purchases including (but not limited to) chairs for the main foyer, wheelchairs for the Specialist Outpatient Department, DVD players for patient use and pressure mattresses. Without these generous purchases from the Auxiliary, these important pieces of equipment and furniture would not be able to be provided to our patients and therefore assisting the

hospital with the Metro South Strategic Direction for resource management to support health service delivery needs.

Redland Hospital A/Facility Manager Heather Tyrrell said the hospital executive were truly grateful for the ongoing support provided by the Auxiliary.

“They raise much needed funds for equipment and other items that make a difference to the patient experience.

“The Auxiliary are very much a part of our hospital community which we value immensely.”

To the Midwifery Unit Manager, Maternity Ward, Redland Hospital,

I wish to express my sincere thanks to your team of professional, caring and truly dedicated midwives.

I was admitted to Redland’s Maternity Ward on April 10 to deliver my son via elective caesarean. The care I received whilst admitted was exceptional.

Whilst all the midwives I encountered were lovely, I would like to make a special mention to Ray.

He made room in the nursery for my bed so I could see my son as soon as I returned from recovery. Even though my bed took up most of the room, he never made me feel like a nuisance.

Even after our son had been discharged from the nursery he continued to check up on us and took the time to answer our many questions.

I was also fortunate enough to be

followed through my pregnancy by student midwife Amelia Macdade.

She is a credit to your organisation and will make an incredible midwife. She supported and encouraged me throughout my pregnancy and delivery.

Nothing was too much trouble for Amelia; she never missed an appointment and was a wealth of knowledge.

Being followed by such a kind and genuinely caring student midwife ensured my experience was a very positive one.

Please place on my thanks to your team as they deserve recognition for their hard work and dedication.

I will definitely recommend Redland Hospital maternity to expectant mothers in the future.

Sincerely,

CF

Dear Colleagues

The 2017 Working for Queensland survey is now open until midnight, Monday 21 August 2017.

This whole-of-government survey provides our staff with the opportunity to share their views and perceptions about working for Metro South Health and the Queensland Public Service.

As one of the public service’s largest employers, it is essential that our employees have ample opportunity to share their opinions about their workplace.

Survey resultsResults of the survey will be made available to line managers, the Metro South Health Executive, and to the highest levels of government. The data, together with the results of our main Metro South Health Employee Survey, will be used to inform key employee engagement and workforce culture strategies and initiatives over the coming year. WBW2017 celebrates working together for the common good, which produces sustainable results, greater than the sum of our individual efforts. We learnt in WBW2016 how the protection, promotion and support for breastfeeding are a key to sustainable development. We grouped the 17 SDGs into four Thematic Areas that relate to each other and to breastfeeding. These four groups help us to define our work in the context of the SDGs. From this year onwards, they will also help us find others to work with. WBW 2017 will provide a platform for long-term collaboration. For further information, action ideas and toolkits, please visit worldbreastfeedingweek.org to plan for and measure successes for the years to come. Many hands make light work and each of us has a part to play. Let us start!
