ED Melanie moves from

hospitality to the EDNew Redland Hospital RN Melanie Gard always knew she wanted a career in nursing.

It was meant to be for the mum of one.

Melanie said her own mum was an ED nurse for 26 years at the Princess Alexandra Hospital before transferring to Redland Hospital and that she had always hoped to follow in her footsteps.

“I was always too terrified so I put it off for a good ten years and then finally decided I was mature enough to be able to cope with it and deal with the consequences.”

Melanie said while only in her first week on the job she was already enjoying working with the team in Redland Hospital’s busy Emergency Department.

She said she also enjoyed the community feel the Redland Hospital provided.

“It’s like a family,” she said. “Everyone has an open door policy.“Its a safe and comfortable place to work.”

Melanie is one of 16 new nurse graduates to begin work at Redland Hospital this week.

Community ViewsDid you know our facilities receive fantastic feedback each and every

week? Here are some recent examples sent to Redland Hospital.

Dear Minister Dick

Yesterday I woke up in sever pain. What to do? So I phoned the 13 Health line, they quickly went through a checklist with me and phoned an ambulance on my behalf.

The paramedics arrives quickly and took me to Redland Hospital where I received great service for the painful kidney stone which thankfully passed.

So I wanted to write to say thank you for working hard on our health system to ensure that when emergencies happen, the right people with the right skills are in the right places to help.

Thank you for all you are doing. May you have the wisdom, knowledge and understanding you need to fulfill your job each and every day.

The service provided by the Transition Care Program has been exceptional.

Gina the case manager is an absolute delight and so efficient.

The other members of the team have been very helpful and professional.

To everyone at Redland Hospital that looked after PB,

P’s family would very much like to thank you all for taking good care of her.

I always wanted to do nursing

but I ran a pub for 10 years.
