TERM 3Tuesday 13 June toFriday 17 September

Welcome to 2021Welcome to Kindergarten children, parents and carers. Welcome to OC children, parents and carers. We have now placed children into classes for 2021. Please see the staff list on page 4.

Mrs Judy Goodsell (Principal) is currently on secondment as the Director of Public Schools for the Girraween network. I will remain as Relieving Principal until she returns from this position. She extends her best wishes to our community for 2021 and is looking forward to re-joining the school as Principal.

Survey for current students, their parents and staff who are in Boyd HouseIn 2020, some concerns were raised by members of the school community into the name of one of our sports houses. In consultation with the staff, School Council and P&C, it was agreed to disassociate from the name of Benjamin Boyd and put forward a name that, preferably, respected Aboriginal tradition and culture. This week, a survey will be sent to current students, their parents/carers and the staff who are in Boyd house, asking them to select the new name for their house commencing in 2021.

Swimming CarnivalWe look forward to our school Swimming Carnival which will be held at Lane Cove Pool on Thursday 25 February. The students may enter races in freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly. It is also a great opportunity to show our house spirit and support all the students. The Bay Times

Drop off ProceduresParents of K, 1 and 2 students are permitted on the school grass areas only to drop off their child. Parents of 3, 4, 5 and 6 students are not permitted on school grounds to drop off. It is important that parents do not drop off, collect or wait on the asphalt, equipment or at the classrooms. It is our preference that parents ‘kiss and drop’ at the gates as it is difficult to maintain social distancing on a small school site such as ours.

Pick up Procedures• 2:45pm - Kindergarten dismissed at Bydown Gate

(Wednesday 1 February to Friday 12 February)• 3:10pm - Dismissal of Year 1 (Bydown Gate) and

Year 2 (grass gate). Older siblings of K-2 children in Years 3, 4, 5 & 6 dismissed from classrooms

• 3:15pm - Years 3, 4, 5 & 6 are dismissed from classrooms. Children attending tennis, dance, karate, drama meet at music room.

Anaphylaxis - Nuts and nut products are not permitted at schoolWe strive to create a safe environment for all students. A number of students in our school have severe allergies or are anaphylactic to nuts. Those students can suffer life-threatening consequences if they come into contact with a product containing nuts, or even a student who has consumed nuts. For this reason, nuts and nut products are not to be sent to school. As part of our school and Department of Education Anaphylaxis Policy, we thank you for your assistance by providing recess and lunch for your child that does not involve nuts or nut products. This includes products such as Peanut Butter, Nutella, muesli bars, biscuits, cakes and chocolates if they contain nuts or nut products. If you require further information, please contact the school.

Sharing of food is not permittedThere remains restrictions on the sharing of food. Sending in of cakes, lollies or special treats to share with your child’s class for birthdays and special occasions is not permitted. Please ensure no food, including cakes and cupcakes or pre-packaged food is shared by children with the class for celebrations or birthdays. On Flexischools, the P&C offer a ‘birthday bucket’ for children who have birthdays and would like to share the occasion with their classmates.

Medication at the School OfficeIf your child has medication that is kept at the office for when it is required, such as an Epipen or asthma inhaler, please ask your child to drop it off the office as soon as possible. Please check that it has not expired and also include your child's action plan.

COVID GuidelinesParents and carers can enter the school to: • Pick up uniforms from the uniform shop• Meet with school staff for an appointment• Drop off students for Kindergarten, Years 1 and 2• Attend ‘meet the teacher’ meetings with school

staff for all year/stage groups. Meetings should be limited to 1 hour where possible.

Parents and carers are reminded that students must not attend school if they are unwell, even with the mildest of symptoms. Students must return a negative COVID-19 test and be symptom free prior to returning to school.

If parents and carers are picking up or dropping off their child during school hours, please ring the school office (9953 1978) when you are at the gate. Staff will collect or bring out your children. While masks are not mandatory for parents and carers visiting schools, it is encouraged. Parents are expected to maintain physical distancing and hygiene practices while i site. When entering the school grounds, please sign in using the QR codes at the gates.

Parent/Teacher Information NightsWeek beginning Monday 15 FebruaryParent/Teacher information Nights will be held in Week 4 to welcome you to the new school year and provide a range of information about your child’s new class. The Information Nights for each grade are below. Due to COVID restrictions, only one parent or carer is asked to attend the evening.

Mobile PhonesWe understand in some circumstances students will need to bring a mobile phone to school. As part of this, students during the day must keep the phone turned off and in their bag. During the school day the students are not permitted to make or take calls, send or receive texts or take photographs with the phone. If your child needs to contact you during the day, the class teacher will organise office staff to do this.

School News

Canteen NewsWelcome back to all students, parents, teachers and staff. We hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable summer break. In 2021, we will continue to use our Flexischools platform for all our daily orders with a cut-off time of 8.30am each day. If you are not familiar with this platform, you can either download the Flexischools App, access Flexischools via our Skoolbag App, or just log on via flexischools.com.au. Please update your child's new class as soon as possible, so their lunch can be forwarded to their correct classroom.

We have some exciting news! I am sure the children and parents of Years 1 - 6 will be thrilled to hear that we will be able to offer our full, over-the-counter menu again. At this point in time, we have decided to only make these items available for prepayment via Flexischools (we won't accept over-the-counter orders with cash payment). Items such as juicies ($1), rice cups ($1) and cheese and garlic breads ($1) will be available via Flexischools. The process will be that the child will receive a label in their lunch basket, and they will come back to the canteen at lunchtime, and exchange their label for the item. This way, their cold or hot item will stay fresh and we will limit cash handling.

Please be aware that juicies, rice cups and cheese and garlic breads are NOT available to Kindy, as they are unable to physically visit the Canteen. However, all year levels will be able to order our usual 'collect at the counter' items such as yoghurt and berries/honey, cold milk, and corn cups. Of course, the menu we offered last year will continue to be available, with daily specials, chicken breast strips, cheese and garlic breads, sandwiches, wraps and toasties. Our full menu, including prices, can be accessed on Flexischools, however below is a list of our daily specials.

Monday - Penne Napolitana $4.00 (V), Spinach and Ricotta Triangles $3.50 (V)Tuesday - Sausage Roll with Sauce ($3.20), Spinach and Ricotta Triangles $3.50 (V)Wednesday - Pasta Bolognaise $4.00, Spinach and Ricotta Triangles $3.50 (V)Thursday - Butter Chicken $4.00Friday - Lasagne $4.00

Please note that you may find some items have had a small price increase. Unfortunately, there has been an increase in costs both from suppliers and within the canteen, resulting in a minor price rise on some items. However, we have done our best to try and keep costs as low as possible so it remains affordable.

The Celebration Buckets will continue to be available for $20 and can be ordered direct via Flexischools. We are excited to share that we have found a healthier alternative to the Zooper Doopers provided in 2020, and are now offering sugar free, additive free Quelches in the buckets. Enough 99% fruit juice ice blocks are provided for each child in the class. This is an optional replacement for students and parents, who are unable to bring in a celebration snack for birthdays, but their child still wants the joy of sharing a treat with their class. Please be aware that if more than two students from the one class order a celebration bucket, we will provide the two buckets over two consecutive days. We are unfortunately unable to provide more than one bucket per class per day.

We are also looking forward to welcoming volunteers back into the canteen in the near future, which will be communicated in the coming weeks.

Wishing everyone a great start to the year. The Canteen Team - Kath, Joc and [email protected]

P&C NewsWelcome back, and welcome to our new families to NBPS for 2021! We trust you all had a wonderful summer break! A few things are planned for the coming week, so please mark them in the calendar.

Nearly New Uniform Sale - Thursday 11 Feb from 8:30am - 10am. Located outside the Music Room, with entry via Bydown Street gate. If you have cleaned out wardrobes over the break and have some uniforms to donate, please drop them off into the office by 5 Feb.

First P&C Meeting 2021 - Wednesday 17 Feb at 7:30pm, will follow the AGM. The meeting will take place in the Music Room and be accessible via Zoom. Everyone is welcome. The P&C Meeting is a great opportunity to hear from Mr Tan as well as the P&C who will provide an update on some upcoming events and plans.

Calendars - We still have some of our 2021 Pet Calendars available for sale at $10 each and are available for purchase on Flexischools. They have some great reminders for the school year (including term dates) as well as offers to local businesses.

NBPS P&C Cookbook - Savour ItWhat’s your favourite meal, special family recipe, snack or tasty treat? Do you know how to make it and would you like to share it? What we eat and the time it takes to prepare and share holds so many great memories, and we’d like to pull them together in a special fundraising book for Neutral Bay Public School. “Savour It” will be launching on Harmony Day 2021.

With a community so rich in cultural backgrounds, we think sharing our recipes and culinary history is a fantastic way to celebrate our diversity. Traditional, modern, savoury or sweet, we’d love to know what gathers your family around the table.

WANT TO BE INCLUDED? Please send a Word or text file with your recipe, and the name and year of your child/ren (if you would like them to be included), along with a photo of your dish or your family enjoying it (up to 10MB). Please send it to [email protected] by Wednesday 17 February, 2021.

HAVE ANY QUESTIONS? Contact [email protected].

Contact Details - Your teachers have been asked to share an email with a link to your class list. We need your permission to have contact details. Please populate the document shared by the class teachers with an email and phone number, so we can keep you in the loop throughout the year. Please be assured this will ONLY be used for communicating to you about school events. Your details will not be published on a public site.

Class coordinators and Year/ Event CoordinatorsWe are looking for parent volunteers to be the point of contact between the P&C and your teacher. If you are interested in being involved, please send an email to [email protected] with your child's class in the subject.

Event CoordinatorsOur lives are all pretty busy and complicated, so we are introducing Event Coordinators who will be able to assist our Events Manager, Jane Stevens, in bringing our various events to life. We are asking for at least 1 person for the year groups K-1, 2-4 and 5-6. Please email Jane at [email protected] to register your interest.

How will the P&C Funds be utilised by NBPS in 2021?Our goal is to raise around $200,000 annually, which we are then able to donate to the school. The school sets their budget around our anticipated (and appreciated) support for the following teaching staff: Science, Music, Support Teachers.

As a guide, this part of our support is generally funded by payment of the P&C Voluntary Contribution on your Fees Statement. In 2021, with YOUR support, we would like to provide the following to the School Community:

• 4 air conditioning units• 4 new sports house banners• Furniture and other items to fit-out the new

dedicated Visual Arts Classroom• Update the look and feel of the Assembly Hall

Do you have any other suggestions? Would you like to make a donation specific to any of these projects, or one you can suggest? Please direct any suggestions to Liz Henry at [email protected].

We appreciate your continued support and input. It’s OUR School Community - so let’s enjoy it. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the P&C.

Kind regardsThe P&C Team
