ORANGE HIGH SCHOOL VISITSDuring Term 4, Canobolas and Nashdale Public Schools stu-dents visited Orange High School on consecutive Thursday mornings to support their development of technology skills. This opportunity is due to the Fair Funding Program, an initiative of the Vincent Fairfax Foundation. As a result of the program, stu-dents were provided with opportunities to further enhance their existing skills with technology including digital literacy and cod-ing. We look forward to further partnerships over the coming months and years with our partner high school.

MEMORIALLast Thursday, Amber Budd’s father, Graeme, his best friend Terry and Amber’s husband Dean (ably assisted by Harvey) in-stalled Mrs Budd’s bench in her garden, overlooking her room. Thanks to Dr Sobotta and Mr Campbell for their assistance heft-ing it into place! It was a lovely and bitter sweet event. The bench is a comforting tribute to our beautiful teacher, col-league and friend. We encourage you to use it as much as you can!

WESTERN CRICKET REPRESENTATIONThe Western Cricket Team were kept busy last week compet-ing in the Boys PSSA State Championships. They unfortunate-ly lost the first two games to Hunter and Sydney North (the latter only had 2 overs in it) before stepping up and taking the win against North West on the Wednesday. Despite their best efforts they couldn’t get over the line against Sydney South West on Thursday, but showed great sportsmanship against an evenly matched side. The team finished in the top twelve at the end of the tournament having displayed some amazing talent. Congratulations to our very talented Angus C who did a stellar job representing Western.THANK YOUThank you to all the parents who have been able to trans-port children’s bikes to school for participation in the Tri-athlon Program. I have never been at a school where so many students have been lucky enough to have their own bike, let alone have parents willing to transport the bikes to school. There are still a few bikes in the gym that can be collected any time before the end of term.A special thank you to Phillip White, Cassie Garlick and Ra-chel Balcomb for transporting the bikes to and from school to the Mountain Bike Park opposite Lake Canobolas. We could not have completed the program (and not had so much fun) without your help.

ROTARY ZIMBABWE PROJECTThank you to the teachers who have donated a significant number of teaching resources to help support struggling schools and communities in Zimbabwe. We have also do-nated some unused items of furniture including desks and chairs that have been in storage, gathering dust under the school for many years. Thank you also to the students who gave up their time to clean the items. Rotary will be col-lecting all donated goods during the week and will be sent to Zimbabwe in a shipping container along with other edu-cational, medical and health supplies donated from other organisations in the area.

NAIDOC WEEKMrs Dennis accompanied Sharni O and Carson O to the Orange NAIDOC March. Both students received school awards on the day. Here at school, each class participated in Indigenous activities that included; Johnny Cake making, boomerang painting, serpent making and face painting.Laura W won the opportunity to have her drawing used as the cake design and the following students won the colour-ing-in competition - Ryder H, Ingrid S, Lydia A, Amaya J and Greta B.

LOCHIE’S LOCKSCongratulations to Lochie J who has contributed hundreds of dollars toward the Year 6 gift to the school. Yesterday, hair dresser to the stars, Aleeta Howley (Kya’s mum) cut away Lochie’s locks to reveal a very handsome young man. The school community and Lochie’s family cheered him on. It is now time to honour any outstanding pledges and send to school as soon as possible. Lochie, Year 6 and Mr Campbell are looking forward to selecting a gift to present at Presentation Night. Lochie would also like to donate some of the proceeds to charity - good on you Lochie!
