My Advert Idea

The idea I have thought of for my advert

is a new pillow. I thought that this would be

a good idea because a pillow is essential

for people in everyday life. You use a

pillow to sleep on, you use a pillow for

comfort. Pillows have many qualities that

they are important for.

Page 4: My Advert Idea

The Outline of my Advert

• I thought a good idea will be to use split screen, this is because I think it would be a good idea to show the positives of a good night sleep and the negatives of a bad night sleep.

• I want to have one side of the screen with the new pillow I am advertising, which the actor in this screen will be showing how my pillow gives you the best night sleep possible to prepare you for the next day in the best way. On the other side of my split screen, I will have an old over used pillow and the actor on this side will be showing how this pillow doesn’t give you best night sleep, and doesn’t prepare you for the next day in the way you want it to be able to.

• I want to have the full screen for about 5 to 10 seconds for each of the types of pillow. I think this would be good to use to show important features of each of the pillows.

• I asked what the best structure would be to use for my advert and the highest voted answer was realist. I agree with this answer and I was thinking of using this in my advert because I think it is the most suitable.

• Celebrity endorsement or hidden message would be the best technique to use in my advert. I really like the idea of using celebrity endorsement because people idolize celebrities.

• I am thinking of using music that is flowing but upbeat so it runs smoothly with my advert so when I am speaking over the music it wouldn’t be to difficult to understand what I am saying.

• The location I will be filming the majority of my advert would be in a households. This is because it is a split screen therefore I will need different setting.

Target Audience O The target audience I am aiming my advert towards is

male and females from the age 17 and above. O I thought that the age of 17 would be a good age to start

my target audience at, as students at this age are beginning to apply and go to university and also beginning to look a lot into their futures.

O As I stated aged 17 and above I thought this would be good because again they are an important essential that we need and people who are parents of children and for themselves will want the best comfort possible.

O Another reason why I have chosen this target audience age range is the price I am advertising my pillow at. At this time I am not certain on the exact price.

O I found my target audience from the results of questionnaire. I found that the lowest age of the target audience is 17 years of age which I then accumulated to direct my product at.

Primary ResearchFrom researching about primary research I learnt that it involves collecting data that hasn’t been collected before, this means that it is your own research. This type of research is the most reliable type of research as you are collecting it for your own results. You can collect this type of research in many ways including:

QuestionnairesInterviewObservationFocus Group

Page 7: My Advert Idea

Primary Research Cont. From the previous slide on ways

you can collect primary data I made a questionnaire based on my advert idea. I carried out this

questionnaire on twitter and Facebook to get as many

responses as possible. In this questionnaire I created my own

questions to gather answers that will help me when planning for my

advert. One of the questions I asked in my questionnaire was my

idea for my advert. The results I got from this question were the

results I was hoping for. I had 23 surveyors and 22 out of 23

surveyors said that this was a good idea. This made me feel a

little more confident about my idea due to the people completing my survey were people in my target

audience range.

Page 8: My Advert Idea

Secondary ResearchFrom researching about secondary research, I learnt that this type of research is not the most reliable because you are gathering data that already has already been produced. It is not the most reliable type of data as you haven't collected it yourself therefore you will not know if the data has been modified in any way. You can gather this type of research from books, websites, blogs, newspapers, magazines and academic tests

Page 9: My Advert Idea

Secondary Research Cont. When I was carrying out my secondary research I came to an obstacle. This was that I couldn’t find a suitable pillow advert as there isn't many around. So I thought my best option would be follow something along the lines of house hold furniture and something to do with furniture for a bed. I thought a good idea would be a dreams mattress advert as they are another thing to do with comfort. So I analyzed a dreams advert for replacing your mattress every 8 years. I also analyzed other household furniture adverts which also gave me a lot of inspiration but I thought this advert was the best advert as it is memorable and informing, which I think is good to have in an advert and these are adverts I want to pursue into my advert.

Quantitative DataQuantitative data is numerical based type data. This data is factual and an advantage of this data is that it is more objective about the findings. This type of data can come in bar chats, pie charts, line graphs, scatter graphs, timelines, diagrams, gradient, viewing figures and statistics.

Page 11: My Advert Idea

Quantitative Data Cont.I gathered my quantitative data

from my questionnaire. To collect this type of data I used closed

ended questions. Good examples of this type of questions that I used in my survey are age,

gender and occupation. When I analysed my questionnaire

results I collected the results of these in a numerical based form

as the was the best way to understand and clearly present

my results. A bad point I found in this research I found that this

type of research is not as detailed as qualitative research because the answers are not as structured and they don’t hold

much information. In

Page 12: My Advert Idea

Qualitative DataQualitative data is the type of data that is all text based. You can get a lot of information from this type of data. The ways in which you can gather information from the data is from books and text books, blogs, websites, labelled diagrams, magazines and newspapers, videos, journals, eBooks, diaries, documentaries and focus groups.

Page 13: My Advert Idea

Qualative Data Cont.

My research for qualative data was my questionnaire. I asked a question of ‘what things apply to you when when buying a pillow?’ this was the type of answer where you needed to provide detail. As I am the person collecting the data this is a advantage because it is a good way to find out ways to improve my product but an disadvantage is that it is time consuming. From this question I found out that a comfort and softness are the biggest things that appeal to people when they are buying a pillow, the pillow I am advertising meets all the needs like this therefore I will make sure that my audience know about the comfort and softness of my pillow so it attracts them towards buying my pillow.

Page 14: My Advert Idea

Focus GroupO I was also involved in a focus

group with around 4 other people. In this we all discussed our 3 final ideas and told each other our ways of advertising each product. At the end of this we then thought it would be best to say which was our favourite and thought was each others best idea. From this I found that everyone thought that the best advert idea I had was my pillow advert. This was because I had the best ideas for this advert and it is a fresh new idea as you don’t see many adverts about new pillows.
