How I made my magazine advert

Step 1Editing the picture

When creating the poster, the first thing I did was choose and edit my main image. The picture I chose was one of the couple holding hands at the beach, and although it is a good picture, the beach itself isn't very pretty and is a little bit dull. One of the edits I did, was selecting the target area, such as the sand, water, or sky, and then suing colour balance to make the colours of them perfect. This worked because it really brightened the image up, but it was very difficult because I had then use the eraser tool to remove the colour from each of the rocks and the parts that it shouldn’t have been on.

Step 2Adding the text

Next, I added the text for my magazine advert. Some of the conventions for the text are that it needs to have the band name, the name of the album, and the release date. So first of all I worked on getting the main features in to the advert, To get my text, I used a website called dafont.com. This is a website that allows people to download different fonts that are much more exciting than normal fonts. I used a different font for my band name and the rest because I wanted the band name to look unique and stand out a bit more. Once I had chosen the right font, I added text stroking to the text. This helps the text stand out a lot, and I think it helps with the colours clashing against each other. I also used a blue text stroke on the words ‘Brand new’. This helps it to stand out and draws attention to the fact that it is a new album. Also, when positioning the text, I decided that the text should not be covering the hands together, because that is showing wanting each other and the love between the characters.

Step 3Star ratings and availability

Next I added the star ratings and what platforms it is available on. I did this because it is a convention that you find on most established artists magazine advertisements. It is also something that people that are looking for an album trust because it is normally made by established brands such as NME and Kerrang.
