Mrs. Annette Powers 3 rd Grade Teacher

Mrs. Annette Powers has been teaching for 19 years as a Preschool and an Elementary school teacher. She earned an A.A. from Camden County College, a B.A. in Sociology from Glassboro State College, Teacher Certification from Rowan University and has a Religious Certification. She has been with St. Stephen School for the last 2 years. In 2003 Mrs. Powers was awarded a “Who‛s Who in Education” award and nominated for the NCEA Distinguished Teacher‛s Award in 2010.

Why did you go into teaching as a career? “I chose to become a teacher because I wanted to educate children. Anyone can teach, few people can educate. Teaching is the passion behind education. I am truly blessed to be an elementary school teacher!

Why did you choose to teach in a Catholic school? “I am in Catholic education because I am privileged to have an opportunity to teach children about the “Good News” of Jesus.

What is something the children will remember about Mrs. Powers? Something I hope the children will learn from me is how to care for each other. I try each day to show my class how to be trusting and caring. I hope by showing students how I interact with them, they will be able to formulate their own positive attitudes towards each other. At St. Stephen‛s, the faculty has the unique opportunity to interact with the entire student body. This interaction may come through coaching, teaching electives or other extra curricular activities, like the play. In all, a teacher teaches more than just reading and arithmetic.
