    11

Change talk is any self expressed

language that is an argument for

    change

    (Miller and Rollnick, 2012)

  • TIP

    12

Change Talk has been shown to be a pre-cursor to change. The more change talk a client is saying (something you can help to evoke), the more likely they are to adhere to and make a change.

    (Butterworth, 2008)

  • Ques%ons

Q: Knowing when to plan?A: This is something we will cover in more depth this %me. Knowing when not to move to planning is as important as knowing when to go to planning. Youll be hearing a lot of change talk, mainly mobilising change talk but also preparatory. Moving to planning can be done in a number of ways, a nice way of tes&ng the water can be with a summary of change talk and a follow up ques%ons such as- Where does this leave us?- What if anything do you think you might do?- Whats next now?Depending on an affirma%ve answer youll know that now is the %me to move to planning.

Well discuss when not to move to planning more in next months MI Club in March.
