James Wambugu – Master of Ceremonies

James has over 15 years of diverse experience in cross-border banking & finance legal work, corporate administration & operations, and funds management. Prior to joining TDB, James served in various capacities at ABAX Corporate Services in Mauritius, Development Bank of Southern Africa and Edward Nathan Sonnenbergs Attorneys in South Africa.

James is a qualified lawyer and holds a Masters Degree in Development Finance from the University of Stellenbosch, and Law & Bachelor of Commerce (Economics) Degrees from the University of Cape Town.

Catherine Collin - Speaker

Mrs. Catherine Collin is the Head of EIB Regional Representation for East Africa, covering EIB’s lending activities in the infrastructure and financial sectors in the region, which are carried out under the Cotonou Partnership Agreement between the EU and the ACP countries.

Catherine has over 30 years’ experience in the financial sector, acquired in commercial banks both in Europe and in South Africa. She Joined the European Investment Bank in Luxembourg in 1995, covering development finance and institutional activities mainly, with a focus on sub-Saharan Africa. Catherine has an in-depth knowledge of the EU institutional set up, EU external policies and instruments (including blending). She holds a Master’s in Business Engineering in 1986 – HEC – Ulg, Liège (Belgium), Advanced European Studies Auditor (CHEE) and 2014 – ENA – Paris.

Michael Awori - Speaker

Michael is the Chief Operating Officer at TDB, responsible for managing the Bank’s Operations Complex, which comprises the primary product houses (Trade Finance and Project & Infrastructure Finance), as well as the Syndications and Co-Financing departments. This includes product strategy and execution, business development and managing strategic multi-country client relationships. He has over 19 years of banking experience and has advised and executed over $15 billion of Capital Markets and M&A transactions.

Michael, based in Kenya, joined TDB in the latter part of 2017 from Barclays where he spent 3 years establishing the Debt Finance business in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. Prior to Barclays Michael was at Citigroup in Chicago, where he spent 4 years advising on corporate finance and mergers & acquisitions for Global Industrials clients. Prior to Citigroup, Michael spent 9 years with JPMorgan in Chicago as a Vice President in the Asset Based Lending and Corporate Banking divisions.

Michael is an economics graduate from Goshen College and also holds a Master of Business Administration in Economics, Finance & International Business from the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business.

HE Simon Mordue - Keynote Speaker

Simon Mordue is the Ambassador of the European Union to Kenya. His last function, in his 25 year career in the EU institutions, was as Deputy Director-General in the European Commission at DG Migration and Home Affairs (DG HOME). Prior to this, he held a wide range of posts at the European Commission (EC) including the post of Director for Strategy and Turkey at DG Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations; Head of Cabinet of Štefan Füle, European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy and Deputy Head of Cabinet of Vice-President Günter Verheugen.

Sheila M’Mbijjewe - Keynote Speaker

Sheila M’Mbijjewe MBS, ACCA (UK) was appointed Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya with effect from 19th June, 2015. She holds a BA in Accounts and Finance and is a Chartered Accountant England and Wales.

Sheila was the first woman in Kenya to be appointed as an executive director of a publicly quoted commercial bank. She has worked in the commercial banking sector in Kenya, the Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank of Kenya, the Financial Reporting Centre of Kenya, Pricewaterhouse Kenya and Deloitte Touché Kenya. More recently Sheila became the first Kenyan woman to be appointed to the Board of a large international publically quoted company.

Sheila was a founding member of the Monetary Policy Committee in Kenya and the Crime and Anti- Money Laundering Act Advisory Committee of Kenya. She has been a director of the Capital Markets of Kenya, the Disclosure Committee of the Capital Markets in Kenya and the Information and Technology Committee of the Nairobi Stock Exchange, Old Mutual Insurance Company Kenya amongst others.

In 2008 she was awarded the Moran of the Burning Spear (MBS), a presidential medal for service to her country.

Paolo Lombardo - Keynote Speaker

Paolo Lombardo is the Deputy Director General of EIB’s Risk Management Directorate. During his 16-year career at EIB he managed the Bank’s lending and equity portfolio outside the European Union, ran the project finance credit risk team and was instrumental in designing and implementing EIB’s prudential best banking practice initiative. Paolo started his career in investment banking (M&A). In the 90s he moved to Asia to focus on infrastructure project financing. Prior to joining EIB he was Global Head of Power and Utilities at ABB Structure Finance. Paolo holds a degree in business administration and corporate finance from Bocconi University, and is married with 3 children.

Wycliff Bbossa - Speaker

Wycliff Bbossa is the Executive, Portfolio Management at the Eastern and Southern African Trade and Development Bank (TDB) and doubles as the Environmental and Social Risk Manager.

At TDB, Wycliff is directly in charge of the USD 5 billion diverse portfolio of projects and trade finance transactions in various sectors within the Eastern and Southern Africa region. Wycliff was until recently the Regional Director for the Trade and Development Bank Regional office in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He has over 15 years’ experience at senior management level in commercial and development banking, risk management, infrastructure finance and business advisory. He has experience in portfolio management, projects and trade finance transaction monitoring, and SME finance.

Before joining TDB, Wycliff worked as a Senior Consultant/Team Leader with a leading accounting and financial advisory firms KPMG International and KPMG East Africa. He was a key member of KPMG International project teams. He participated in various KPMG lead impact assessment projects and consultancies for the GOU in partnership with USAID, EAC and World Bank. Previously, he had gained commercial projects and business assessment skills as a Senior Business Analyst at the Uganda Manufacturers Association Consultancy and as a Senior Manager at leading commercial banks in the East African region.

Wycliff completed his MBA in Energy and Sustainability at the University of Cumbria, United Kingdom, he holds a Master’s in Economics from Chancellor College and Post Graduate Diplomas in Economics and Projects Management from Maastricht School of Management, the Netherlands.

Ricardo Santos - Speaker

Ricardo Santos is an economist in Country and Financial Sector Analysis division of the European Investment Bank. Ricardo covers the macroeconomic and financial sector developments in East Africa and Portuguese speaking African countries and is involved in country risk monitoring in the EIB. Before joining the Bank, Ricardo has worked for private and public sector organizations, such as the European Stability Mechanism, BNP Paribas, the Portuguese Budget Office and Caixa Geral de Depositos. His focus has been macroeconomic and financial markets analysis and forecasting.

Ricardo holds and Msc in Economics from the University of London.

Jared Osoro - Speaker

Mr. Osoro was appointed as Director of Research and Policy, and the Director of the KBA Centre for Research on Financial Markets and Policy in January 2013. He has over 13 years' experience as a practicing economist in the financial sector. He most recently served as Bank Economist for the East African Development Bank, a position he held for more than 10 years. His professional interest is in the areas of International Macroeconomics, Financial Economics, Economic Policy and Modelling, and Development/Project Financing Economics. Attesting to this interest, he has published numerous essays for a technical audience and well as for a wider readership. He holds a Master of Science Degree in Economics from the University of Zimbabwe and a Bachelor's Degree in Economics from the University of Nairobi, and has received post-graduate training in Project Financing Economics from Bradford University (United Kingdom), and Development Evaluation Economics from World Bank and Carleton University (Canada).

Courtney Christie-Veitch - Speaker

Courtney provides technical assistance to banking, capital markets and insurance regulators in East African region (AFRITAC East, seven countries) to strengthen financial sector supervision and regulation and align supervisory standards with international benchmarks. Courtney’s remit spans the banking, micro finance, insurance and capital markets sectors.

He joined AFRITAC East in November 2016 from the IMF Caribbean Regional Technical Assistance Centre (CARTAC), where his focus was to provide technical assistance to 20 countries on reforms including, Basel II/III implementation, risk-based supervision and consolidated supervision.

Prior to Joining CARTAC, Courtney worked at the Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA) and the Bank of Jamaica (BOJ) as Assistant Director, Financial Stability Department and Assistant Director, Banking Trust and Investment Department. Courtney is a member of the Chartered Banker Institute. He holds

Andrew Obara – Moderator & Master of Ceremonies

Andrew Obara, currently the Long-Term Expert for EIB’s EA Banks Capacity Building Project in Uganda, is an experienced banker and financial sector consultant with 11 years in banking and 17 in financial sector capacity building (banking, microfinance, non-banks). His practical experience and consulting areas include Institutional Transformation TA, Strategy, Credit Underwriting and Management, Business Development, Product Development, Governance, Microfinance/ Financial Inclusion, Corporate Diagnostics and related areas. Most of his consulting work is in East Africa but he has also handled consulting assignments in Sierra Leone, Gambia, Ghana, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Namibia, South Sudan and Afghanistan.

He is the founder of FRIENDS Consult Ltd, a 21-year management consulting firm in the financial sector which has been recognized by the Nation Media Group/KPMG among the Top 100 Mid-Sized Enterprises in Uganda for four consecutive years. He holds a bachelors degree in Economics, an MBA and post graduate diploma in Finance and Accounting.

Nicholas Nzioka - Moderator

Nicholas Nzioka is part of the EIB team responsible for the Bank’s relationships with financial

institutions in East Africa, aiming particularly to support banks in financing private enterprise. In this

role, he is involved in origination and appraisal of financial intermediaries, structuring and

implementation of various financing operations as well as technical assistance programmes targeting

banks and final beneficiaries. Nicholas joined EIB in 2006 after auditing and consulting careers with

Ernst & Young and KPMG and holds an MBA and Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of

Nairobi.

Robert Schofield – Speaker & Panelist

Robert Schofield heads EIB’s Financial Sector Division covering Africa, Latin America/Caribbean and Asia/Pacific.

Robert is responsible for EIB’s relationships with local and international financial institutions, aiming particularly to support banks in modernising their banking services in developing countries and in financing private enterprise. Previously, Robert headed EIB’s Corporate and Banking Division in Western Europe, financing corporate R&D and innovation, and supporting SMEs via the major western European banks. Robert joined EIB in 2000 after an extensive commercial banking career with Barclays in the UK, Zimbabwe and Côte d’Ivoire, including roles in corporate lending, product development and structured finance. Robert holds an MBA from University of Cambridge Judge Institute, and a MA from University of Oxford.

Hannah Siedek - Speaker & Moderator

Hannah Siedek is a Microfinance Investment Officer with 16 years experience in microfinance strategy and operations, and technology-enabled delivery models. She joined the European Investment Bank (EIB) in Luxembourg.in October 2015 and has since then financed microfinance service providers in the ACP region.

Her career started at CGAP/The World Bank where she acquired experience and knowledge in a range of different challenges facing the access to finance industry.

During her 3 years with the CGAP Paris office, she was deeply involved in the aid effectiveness initiatives of the donor consortium. When moving to CGAP Washington DC in 2005, she joined the newly created Technology Programme and focused on designing projects for alternative delivery channels, including mobile banking- and agent banking services in Latin America.

To complement her World Bank experience, Hannah joined ProCredit Holding AG in 2008 and became the Managing Director of ProCredit Bank Congo, DRC and an executive member on the bank’s Board of Directors. During the three years with ProCredit, she oversaw the organizational restructuring of the bank to enable its regional and national expansion, she managed the introduction of SME loans, grew

the branch network from 6 to 17 branches with a first time expansion into regions outside the capital city, and helped grow staff numbers to 500.

Hannah holds degrees in Bank Financial Management and Development Finance, a European Master (MSc.) in Management from ESCP-EAP, France and City University, UK, and a bachelor’s degree in economics from Bayreuth University, Germany. She is fluent in English, German, French and Spanish.

Carmelo Cocuzza - Speaker

Carmelo Cocuzza is currently Head of Unit in the Global Partners Department at the European

Investment Bank’s (EIB) headquarters in Luxembourg where he covers blending and technical

assistance programmes in Africa, Caribbean the Pacific, Asia and Latin America.

He holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree from Oxford Brookes University in England, a Master’s

degree in Banking and Finance for Development from the University of Milan, Italy and is an alumni of

the Oxford Impact Investing Programme of the Said Business School at Oxford University.

Mr. Cocuzza has over 23 years of development finance experience acquired at the EIB and at the

African Development Bank. He has been Head of the EIB’s Regional Representations for Southern

Africa and Indian Ocean based in Pretoria, South Africa (2012-2017) and for East and Central Africa in

Nairobi, Kenya (2004-2009). He has been Senior Investment officer for EIB’s operations in ASEAN

countries and Loan officer for Central Africa where he led the structuring of the EIB’s funding for the

Chad-Cameroon Oil Pipeline. He has been an active advisory board member of various venture capital

funds for SMEs in East Africa. He is a certified Microfinance Trainer and in 2010 he privately founded

and established a small business incubator, FinAfrica, based in Kampala, Uganda.

Klaudia Berger - Speaker

Klaudia works as Programme Coordinator of the Inclusive Financial Services unit of the EIB Advisory Department. She has over 20 years in public procurement and contract management in various sectors of the EIB. Since 2012, Klaudia has specialised in Technical Assistance to Microfinance operations and Grants in support of Beneficiaries of MSME Fund investments.

Before joining the EIB, Klaudia had worked as Consultant to the Service Sales Force for an International IT-company in Luxembourg and as Export Sales Officer in Dypack Dyckerhoff Group in Germany. She studied Economics at Karl-Franzens-University Graz and is married with three children.

Guillermo Bosse - Speaker

Guillermo Bosse has over 35 years of work experience in the financial sector. He has strong experience in analytical and conceptual work as well as operational consultancy for financial institutions and international donor organizations such as EIB, KfW, WB, ADB and EBRD.

Mr. Bosse’s technical expertise ranges from the strengthening of microfinance associations and SME institutions and regulatory policies to general bank management, with a focus on strategic planning, risk management, marketing and HR management.

As a former Vice President and Senior Credit Risk Director of the German Deutsche Bank, he has an outstanding knowledge in management and identification of risks and trends and implementing innovative credit initiatives. Currently, Mr. Bosse is the Regional Team Leader of the EIB TA Programme in East Africa, supervising a team of 4 Long term Experts and 35 Short Term Experts. Mr. Bosse holds a master’s degree of Business Administration from the Goethe-University of Frankfurt, Main / Germany.

David Ashiagbor - Moderator

Making Finance Work 4 Africa - Partnership Coordinator.

David heads the Making Finance Work for Africa (MFW4A) Partnership Secretariat. He has over 20 years of experience in the African financial sector. His broad knowledge covers thematics ranging from SME finance and capital markets to public-private partnerships and long-term finance.

He previously managed the Commonwealth’s Private Investment Initiative (CPII), which raised US$800 million for investment in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and the Pacific. David has also worked for the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Agence Française de Développement. His current interests focus on unlocking domestic long-term capital for investment in Africa. David is a graduate of the London School of Economics and The Management School, Imperial College, London.

Antonina Kayitesi - Panelist

Antonina Kayitesi is the Joint Head Financial Management & Treasury at the Trade & Development Bank.

She has 17 years of diversified financial management experience with technical expertise ranging from Banking, Financial advisory, Auditing as well as structuring innovative broad-based access to finance, financial inclusive solutions and seed stage venture capital at the base of the wealth pyramid. She joined TDB 6 years ago having previously served in various capacities as the Rwanda Country Director, Women for Women International, Chief Finance Officer Ecobank Rwanda and Auditor with Ernst & Young.

Antonina is an alumna of the Global Banking Executive Program from Columbia Business School, holds an MBA from Edinburgh Business School, a B.Comm Degree and is a chartered accountant. She has served as a non-executive Board member of Rwanda Development Bank & Letshego Microfinance Rwanda.

Michael Steidl – Speaker

Michael Steidl holds the position of Senior Advisor SME Finance in the Inclusive Financial Service Unit of the Advisory Department in the European Investment Bank (EIB). His main responsibility is the design and monitoring of technical assistance programs in SME finance to financial intermediaries in MENA, Eastern Europe and the Balkans.

He has 24 years of experience in MSME finance in almost 50 countries globally. Before joining the EIB in 2018, he has worked for the World Bank Group in Indonesia and Mexico, where he led work on Fintech, the regulation of microfinance and on advisory projects with banks in MSME finance. During his previous career as consultant, he has led multiple consulting assignments in Latin America, Africa and Asia.

Mr. Steidl holds a Master Degree in Economics from the University of Heidelberg, Germany, and a Certificate in Corporate Finance from London Business School.

Titus Karanja – Moderator & Master of Ceremonies

Titus Karanja is currently the Long-Term Expert for EIB’s EA Banks Capacity Building Project in Kenya. He is an experienced financial services professional with 19 years in various investment banking and commercial banking roles. His core areas of expertise include digital financial services, institutional transformation, co-operative banking, policy analysis and regulatory affairs.

He is a co-Founder of Fintech Frontiers Ltd a digital financial services company and the Fintech Institute a digital finance knowledge center.

James M. Kabuga - Speaker

Mr Kabuga is Senior Advisor at the TDB Academy. He joined Trade & Development Bank (TDB) in 1994 and has worked in various capacities for the last 24 years. These capacities include being the Director of Project & Infrastructure Finance in the Bank. Between 2014-2018, he was Regional Director, Southern Africa region based in Harare, Zimbabwe responsible for establishing TDB’s Regional Office as well as business development and driving corporate strategy in the region.

He is an economist by training with a professional experience that spans over 30 years of regional and international banking and financial management experience built across various functions in the banking sector including business development, strategy and planning, portfolio management, coaching and talent development.

He is currently Senior Advisor responsible for the establishment of TDB Academy. The Academy is a new initiative of Trade & Development Bank which was launched in 2018. The objective of the Academy is to build a solid training and capacity building platform where the Bank breeds and nurtures its own human talent.

Johannes Buschmeier - Panelist

Johannes Buschmeier is the Managing Director of AFC Agriculture and Finance Consultants and has been working in the agricultural finance sector for more than 25 years. AFC is a member of the German GOPA Group, with an in-depth knowledge of the agricultural sector and a wide network of experts, tackling the specific challenges of rural finance through an extensive range of services such as developing financing schemes along value chains; designing new products to respond to farmers’ demand in loans and insurance; as well as rolling-out innovative money transaction mechanisms in rural areas.

After his studies of Agricultural Sciences at the University of Göttingen, Mr Buschmeier started to manage projects in agriculture, agribusiness and the financial sector development. The promotion of agricultural finance for agri-based enterprises and the analysis of capacities and expertise of financial institutions were frequently occurring challenges he encountered in his projects. Mr. Buschmeier has been working in the agricultural finance sector supporting Banks to develop new credit products that meet the requirements of different actors in agricultural value chains. His long –track record of implementing agricultural finance projects made him an active and knowledgeable contributor to conferences, topic-centered panels and policy dialogues.

Due to his strong background in finance and agriculture in African and Asian countries, he worked on behalf of numerous donors like EIB, KFW, EC, ADB or GIZ.

Esther Muiruri - Panelist

Esther Muiruri is an Associate Director in charge of Agribusiness at Equity Bank as well as Equity Group Foundation. Esther also serves as a Director in the Board of Equity Insurance Agency a Subsidiary of Equity Group. She graduated with a degree in Business Administration and a Master Degree in Strategic Management from the University of Nairobi and has attended many job related training/courses.

Before joining Equity Bank, Esther had worked with Government of Kenya in various positions managing agriculture projects working with farmers and other stakeholders in the wider agriculture sector in Kenya.

Esther established the agribusiness department and introduced innovative financing of agriculture value chains through strategic partnerships with players in the agriculture sector. She has served as a member of most agricultural stakeholders’ forums in Kenya and in the continent with objective of making agriculture commercially sustainable and internationally competitive through various interventions including access to finance.

Evans Nakhokho - Panelist

Evans Martin Nakhokho is a chief Manager in Centenary Bank where he has devoted his last five years in the creation, development and scaling up of the Agribusiness department of the Bank. He has extensive experience in commercial Banking in the areas of conventional, non-conventional and innovative financing mechanisms that focus on delivering accessible, affordable, convenient and comfortable service to those who deserve to be financially included in both the rural and urban settings. His recent activities include the sourcing and implementation of digital solutions that deliver meaningful /cost effective financial packages to the people in rural areas

In the competing roles of Board Director for Send a Cow, Vice President for the Agriculture Finance Platform and Banker, Evans thrives on building relationships, trust, and rapport with partners with whom he has brokered ecosystems/alliances, to motivate forward momentum to ‘get things done'. With an enthusiastic and genuinely friendly attitude, Evans radiates a sincere passion for delivering value and benefits to the Bank’s customers.

Aware of the need to contribute more value, Evans completed a M.S. in Banking and financial services at Makerere University and against this background moved to become the Vice President for the Uganda Agriculture Finance Platform and become an advocate for Interventions in the climate change chapter.

He is a renowned Banker, Leader and Chartered Accountant.

Before FINCA, Robert was Chief Executive Officer of Quality Chemicals Ltd where he was responsible for key positive changes in strategic direction and grew the company to a level of attracting an additional USD. 30 million investment in equity, after working as Chief Finance Officer with the same organization. Robert also worked with Finance Trust (currently Finance Trust Bank), as Head of Finance and Administration where he made tremendous contribution towards turning around the company and mapping new strategic direction leading to its current status as a commercial bank. Robert started off his career as a Banking Officer at Centenary Bank, has been a Lecturer at Makerere University Business School and practiced Accountancy.

Fidelis Muia - Speaker and Panelist

Mr. Muia is the Director of Technical Services, Kenya Bankers Association. He is responsible for the co-

ordination of industry initiatives geared towards enhancing technology and operations for the banking

industry.

He has been instrumental in implementing projects that resulted in the modernization of the National

Payment systems, having been involved in the development of the first two Central Bank of Kenya’s

National Payment Systems Strategies, and the formulation and drafting of The National Payments

Systems Act 2012 and its regulations.

In his role at the Association, Mr. Muia led in the modernisation of the Banking Payment Systems from

the Automated Clearing House implementation and the Cheque Truncation System, migration of

Kenya’s Payment Cards system to the EMV standard and the development of the Credit Information

Sharing Mechanism in Kenya (CRBs).

Mr. Muia has represented the Banking industry in a number national initiatives like the Kenya Credit

Guarantee Scheme development with the National Economic and Social Council (NESC), the formation

of the Payments Association of Kenya among many other Government task forces and committees.

Mr. Muia has a wide range of knowledge in systems development and implementation, having worked

in both the insurance and banking industries for more than 25 years.

Sam Wanjohi – Speaker and Panelist

Sam Wanjohi is Founder and CEO of Popote Innovations Ltd. He attended the University of Birmingham and graduated with a Masters of Sciences in Civil Engineering & Project Management in 2002 after which joined Arup, a leading global engineering consultancy firm. In his spare time, he began investing in dilapidated properties, extending, renovating & then selling or renting them out. In 2005 he left employment to pursue property re-development fulltime. He returned home to Kenya in 2007 and

It was in growing this business with over 200 employees & numerous daily financial transaction duties that he experienced first hand the challenges facing business owners in this regard. He discovered that the solutions offered by banks did little to enable businesses go digital in finances, did not contain expense management and accounting features nor integrate with accounting or ERP solutions. He also found that quick approval, short term business loans were also not available from banks. This led him to ideate a Saas solution to fill in the gap. Following 6 years of development, piloting and approvals, the solution, called Popote Pay, today serves numerous businesses in Kenya and is expanding into both emerging and developed markets via partnerships with Banks as a value added service provider, as the same challenges exist and remain unresolved.

Andrew Bamugye - Speaker

Andrew Bamugye is Senior Investment Manager SME at TDB. He is in charge of the SME programme which is based in the TDB Harare Regional Office in Zimbabwe.

He has grounded experience and exposure with 13+ Years in Private Sector and Development Advisory Services in Africa. He previously worked with the African Management Services Company, MTN Uganda, Uganda Telecom and Kisaka Company CPA.

Eleni Kyrou - Moderator

Mrs Eleni Kyrou serves as the Head of the European Investment Bank’s Representation Office to Ethiopia and the African Union. She is a development practitioner with over 20 years of experience across the global South and a strong operational background across different sectors and world regions. Her expertise lies in impact investing, gender-smart financing and human rights in business. Her operational engagement in Eastern Africa dates to 2000.

Eleni joined the EIB in 2010 and, prior to her current post, she served as the EIB’s Lead Social Development and Gender Specialist, spearheading the development of institutional policies related to

She earned an MSc in Urban Development Planning from University College London and a BSc in Development and Economics from the School of Oriental and African Studies.

Jennifer Bash – Speaker

Jennifer Bash is a renowned Tanzanian agri-business entrepreneur and a marketing expert committed towards making agriculture production a sustainable and profitable business across the value chains.

She is the Founder and CEO of Alaska Tanzania, a food manufacturing company that operates through agro processing and trading commodities. Jennifer launched Alaska Tanzania in 2011 and has grown the company to incorporate various segments including grains, poultry and processed foods distributed in domestic and reginal markets with a mission to reach 20 African Countries by 2025.

Jennifer is also the Founder and Managing Partner of SOKONNECT- a digital platform that connects farmers and vendors to fair, trusted markets across Africa and Founder of Mama Alaska Jamii.

Jennifer dedicates her efforts to building strategic collaborations within Agribusiness stakeholders in the public and private sectors that impact the bottom of the pyramid with the mission to improve business economics and profitability across agriculture supply chains.

Jennifer who is a mom of 3, holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in International Marketing from Baruch college, New York. She also serves as a member of the Tanzania Entrepreneurship Competitiveness Centre (TECC) Board of Trustees, member of the Board of Resolution Insurance as a Non-Executive Director and a member of the board of AccessBank Tanzania Limited as an Independent Director. Dr Natalie Schoon - Speaker

Natalie has in excess of 20 years experience across the financial sector globally. She works as an independent consultant and advises on financial regulation, risk, and Islamic finance. She works in both developed and emerging markets and has, among others, set up the financial infrastructure for Islamic finance for agriculture in Afghanistan, managed a wholesale bank note business in Bahrain, and devised the regulations for derivatives trading and short selling in Bangladesh. Natalie started her career with large international investment banks including ABN Amro and Barclays Capital. She is passionate about the development of financial solutions for SMEs for both male and female borrowers. Natalie holds a PhD in financial analysis from the University of Surrey, and is a CFA Charterholder.

Donatus Richard - Speaker

Mr. Donatus Richard is currently the head of Business Banking Department for NMB Bank Plc Tanzania Limited. Within NIC and same NMB Bank Mr. Donatus had previously been served at various capacities including: bank officer, senior relationship manager in both SMEs and Corporate Banking, he also worked as Branch Manager at a private Banking branch Oyster Plaza.

On top of that Mr. Donatus has been actively working with the Human Resource department as a Trainer on volunteer basis for inhouse Credit Trainings to Branch Managers, loan officers, credit officers, sales and retention managers across the NMB branch Network in Tanzania.

On top of all the banking industry competence and experience, Mr. Donatus had previously been active in development projects during his work with the World Vision organization as a capacity building associate program in Arusha country office in Tanzania.

William Mugerwa – Speaker

William Mugerwa has over 15 years’ experience working with and supporting micro, small and medium

enterprises, where he provides training, mentoring, coaching and advisory support to enterprises. He

is currently the Private Sector Development Advisor with the USAID/Uganda Sanitation for Health

Activity, where he works with national, regional and local sanitation enterprises in a bid to develop,

test, roll out and bring appropriate and affordable sanitation products and services closer to

households through a market-based sanitation approach. He has also conducted organizational

assessments, developed and supervised the implementation of Business Development Support Plans

under the EU/IFAD Yield Fund for Agricultural Development. William has worked with and supported

entrepreneurs in the agricultural, financial, WASH and service sectors.

He holds Master of Science and Bachelor of Science degrees (accounting and financial management)

from The College of St. Rose in Albany, New York, USA. William also holds an Associate in Science

degree in Business Administration from Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, New York USA.

Erick Chrispin – Moderator

Erick Chrispin is a founder and Managing Director for TrueMaisha Training Company Ltd, an avid and experienced professional trainer and consultant in Business, Organizational and Personal development programs to corporate companies, NGOs, associations and public institutions. For 8 years Erick Chrispin has been working partly as an employee trainer, leader and freelance consultant to local and international organizations such as: MS-ActionAid Denmark, Population Services International (PSI), European Investment Bank (EIB) TA project in East Africa through AFC Agriculture & Finance Consultants as a Short Term Expert (STA) and MSME training specialist and coordinator in Tanzania through which he worked with many corporate companies in Tanzania such as NMB Bank, AccessBank Tanzania, Bank of Africa Tanzania and KCB Bank Tanzania. David Bamlango - Speaker

David Bamlango is General Counsel and Senior Executive, Legal Services at Trade & Development Bank. David has over 13 years of extensive experience as a lawyer in the finance and commercial banking sectors. Prior to his appointment, David was a Partner in the Finance Group at DLA Piper LLP (US) in Chicago, in the United States.

His practice was focused on domestic and cross-border financing transactions, including leveraged finance, project finance, debt capital markets, structured finance, and derivative transactions. He represented financial institutions, private equity funds, real estate funds, and corporate borrowers, in addition to serving on a number of firm management committees. Previously David worked as an Associate in the Finance and Banking Group of Mayer Brown LLP in Chicago.

He also previously worked as a buyside equity analyst for an investment management firm in Chicago. She has published 2 books, over 25 journal articles and book chapters, 12 case studies and two research reports. She has received research grants to conduct entrepreneurship research.
