    1.0  BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Please read this information to ensure you are aware how to operate & maintain the Mini Vac

in the most effective and safe manner. Do not operate the Mini Vac without reading thismanual.

The Mini Vac is an air operated pump designed to perform two main tasks :

    1. When used with its specially designed suction wand, to assist with quick & efficient mudclean up operations in & around the rig. This to help prevent slips, trips and falls -invaluable for rig house-keeping duties.

    2. Act as a pump to batch transfer mud from 1 area to another

In both cases the collected mud is periodically discharged by the pump when full and can bedirected to a collection tank or pit for further processing or disposal.

Please also refer to associated documentation pack supplied with the Mini Vac :

Chicago Pneumatic – Spare Parts List for sludge pumps CP0077

Safety & Operating Instructions sludge pumps CP0077

EC Declaration of Conformity (Chicago Pneumatic).

    2.0 CAUTION

    1) Do not exceed 90 psi / 6.2 Bar air inlet pressure as this is the maximum rating of

    the pump vessel.

    2) Discharge fluid pressure can equal air inlet pressure so treat the discharge hose, fittingsand air exhaust with due respect. Secure discharge hose to prevent whipping, preferably to a solid structure.

    3) Any holes in the hose or loose fittings will reduce suction greatly. If the pump does notseem to be developing good suction, check hose and fittings first.

    4) Always check all air supply fittings before use.

    5) Ensure that any rig Permit To Work and any other procedures are in place prior tooperating the Mini Vac.

    3.0 OPERATION OF MINI VAC

    3.1 Pre-Operational Checks :

Before starting p lease confirm fol lowing :

Pump is in good condition with no signs of damage to body, cap, fittings or hose

Suction & discharge hoses, and air supply hose are in good condition and hose fittingshave gaskets (if required)

Excessive hose length and bends will reduce the pump performance. Suction &discharge hose runs are as straight and short as practical.

Adequate number of whipchecks are available – to enable fitting to all hose joints. Tieback hoses to solid structure for additional security.

Operator has read & understood this manual and is familiar with operation &maintenance of the Mini Vac

Once the Mini Vac is located in the area you wish to clean, select a combination ofsuction and discharge hoses to cover the clean-up area. For best operation of the MiniVac use the shortest lengths of hose that will allow you to work in an area for a whilewithout moving the unit. Once moved to another area – reassess the hose lengthneeded.

When using the Mini Vac turn the pump on and off with the quarter turn ball valve on thepump air inlet.

    3.2 Installation/Hook-Up/Operation :

    1) Attach the suction hose to the 1½" quick-connect suction inlet.

    2) Attach the discharge hose to the 2" quick-connect discharge outlet.

    3) It is recommended that safety whipchecks are used on all hose joints – suction, discharge & air hoses. The rig air supply line to the crowsfoot connector on the pumpair inlet should also be fitted with a safety R-clip as further precaution.

    4) Ensure the air control valve is in the off position ie with valve handle at right angles tosupply line. Attach the air supply line to the Chicago fitting and fit a whip check andalso safety clip.

    5) Attach the other end of the air supply line to eg the rig supply – ensuring that the supplypressure cannot exceed 100 psi / 6.9 Bar. Slowly turn on the air supply to the Mini Vac – listening for air leaks. If any heard shut the valve and isolate at the rig supply.Carefully release trapped air within the supply hose by eg operating the pump slowly –turning the air ball valve slowly, until the pump stops. The leak can then be safelyinvestigated and fixed.

    6) Once the Mini Vac is ready for operation : insert the suction hose into the fluid yourequire to transfer and lay out the discharge hose to the area which will receive the fluidbeing moved.

NOTE: It is important to secure the discharge line so as to prevent the hosefrom whipping during the discharge cycle.

    7) Open the air supply ball valve at the Mini Vac and the unit will begin its suction anddischarge cycle.

    8) When the job is complete, turn off the Mini Vac at the unit first – by turning the air supplyball valve to the ‘off’ position (with valve handle at right angles to supply line). Thenturn the main air supply feeding the pump air to ‘off’.

    9) Before disconnecting the hoses or moving the Mini Vac elsewhere, bleed the unit byopening the air ball valve on the Mini Vac and emptying the tank of any remaining fluid.

    10) Check oil level daily or before each operation : remove top plug on unit (next to ShuttleCasing) and fill the reservoir with TELLUS 100 or equivalent.

NOTE: Later models have lubricator as separate unit mounted in line anddownstream from the air in let connection.

    11) Ensure, wherever possible the Mini Vac  is positioned above the fluid to be pumped. This will prevent the Unit flooding when shut down and fluid being ejected through

    exhaust upon being restarted.

    4.0 LUBRICATION

The air-line lubricator attached to the air inlet should be filled every shift with Airolene or with aproprietary pneumatic tool lubricating oil.

    5.0 MAINTENANCE

The amount of lift (pressure or height to which the pump will discharge) that can be

accomplished with this pump, is directly dependent upon air inlet pressure.

If the pump does not lift correctly, check air supply pressure first.

The pump will pass gritty water & small solids, but its action depends on free operation of the 3check valves in bottom of the pump body. If water pumped contains sticks, wire or any otherkind of foreign matter longer than 3” / 75mm, it is likely this will be caught under the checkvalve seats & hold the valves open.

If this occurs, the check valves may be cleaned by removing the suction intake hose orconnection. If no fluid is present, air will blow directly through to the air exhaust without doing

work. If fluid is in position to be pumped and air blows directly through to the air exhaust, remove upper cylinder cap and check piston for tightness.
