READING ASSESSMENTS•Phonemic Awareness Inventory Benchmark- three times a year

This assessment includes: words in a sentence, syllables, rhyming words, onset/rime blending, sound isolation for beginning, middle, and ending, blending, segmenting , deleting and substituting sounds.

•Star Early Literacy – three times a year

Emergent: 300-674 Transitional: 675-774 Probable: 775-900

•D.I.B.E.L.S. -. 3 times a year. (August, December, May)

**(FSF- First Sound Fluency, LNF- Letter Naming Fluency, PSF- Phoneme Segmentation , NWF- Nonsense Words Fluency)•Fry Words – three times a year (Oct., Dec., and May) 3= all 50 2= 30-49 1= 0-27

Please Practice at home throughout the school year, Fry Words are available on our website and are placed

in your child’s binder for weekly practice.

MATHEMATICS & SCIENCE•We have adopted Pearson enVision as our math program.

•Math Content Standard Domains and Clusters: counting, sorting, number recognition, number sense, geometry, algebraic thinking.

•In math, we use many different hands-on activities and tools to help the children gain a concrete foundation for math concepts.

•We are using the “Assessing Math Concepts Guide” as our primary mathematics assessment tool.

•AMSTI Science modules as well as STEM Scopes will be used for science instruction.

Kindergarten Report Card •Progress Reports will come home every four and a half

weeks.

•Report Cards will be sent home every nine weeks.

•Report Cards and Progress Reports will be placed in a manila folder. Please sign and return the entire folder.

•All standards will appear on the Report Card but may not be assessed each time. If it is not being assessed it will be marked with a /.

•The Report Card Parent Information Guide will be placed on the left side of your child’s report folder. It has detailed information about standards and their assessment dates.

Understanding ReportsCards• Kindergarten Report Cards do not reflect letter grades

given on assignments. Instead, the numbers 3, 2, and 1 show student progress made on skills to be mastered by the end of the Kindergarten year.

• Grading Scale:

• Power Standards will be in bold print. Mastery of these standards is critical.

• Behaviors that support Learning will be marked with a S, N, or U.

S- satisfactory-Consistently demonstrates behavior N-Needs improvement-inconsistently demonstrates behaviorU-Unsatisfactory-rarely demonstrates behavior and learning is affected.

What to Expect from Reports

● Progress Reports and Parent Teacher Conferences will provide the most detailed information.● Report cards will indicate your child’s current level of mastery. ● If you have any questions about your child’s progress report or report card, please contact your

child’s teacher.● A Parent Guide will be coming home with your child this week. Keep this, so that you can refer to

it when you receive progress reports and report cards. The information provided will answer most of the questions you may have.

Conferences are typically held twice a year; however, teachers and parents may see the need for additional conferences throughout the year.

YOUR CHILD NEEDS TO KNOW…

● How to tie their shoes (Be sure to send your child in tennis shoes everyday!)

● how to open milk/juice cartons and bottles.

● how to open chip/snack bags.● how to button/unbutton jackets and

pants.● how to zip/unzip jackets and pants.● Please practice these skills

with your child at home!

OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION⦿ Library – Orientation every week for 6 weeks then as

needed; students are currently being taught how to use library and to take care of books before check out begins.

⦿ Snack – Please send a healthy snack each day⦿ Lunch – Parents are always welcome⦿ Students can buy ice cream on Friday(starting in

September) and birthdays.⦿ Daily Communication– Be sure to check daily ⦿ Clothes/Shoes – wear tennis shoes and socks daily &

girls need shorts underneath skirts

OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION⦿ Field Trip – two a year (One in the fall and one in

the spring)

CHAPERONESYou MUST fill out a background check every year! Parents without a background check will not be allowed to chaperone. Tentative date for our fall field trip to Tate Farms is October 28, 2019.

⦿ Transportation Changes – Written note or email before 1:45.If there is no response through email, please call the front office and have them notify us to check our email.

⦿ Mill Creek Shirts – wear on field trips and Fridays!

⦿ Birthdays – You can buy ice cream for the class at lunch. You may not bring in homemade or store bought products.

⦿ Rest Mats – Will be sent home on Friday. Please wash & return on Monday.

⦿ Lunch Money- Paypams or send a check/ cash in envelope with name and amount on outside
