Riedl’s Roundup Celebrating Learning! This month we connue to celebrate the success of our students in a variety of ways! This week was Character Counts Week and we have been celebrang great character. In addion, we have celebrated individual student learning gains as we conclude Quarter 1 and begin Quarter 2. And most importantly, we have been in communicaon with our families on the successes and areas of opportunity of our students. Grade cards arrived home on Monday in a new way. Forging ahead, although as a “mama” this was quite difficult for even me, we are now viewing grade cards electronically. Who would have ever thought! But as we connue to keep up with our digital naves (our students), we have to make sure that we are to ulizing the tools that make sense in the world we live! Thank you for your paence, flexibility and willingness to move forward and be acve in these mes as we transion to new ways of communicaon! Although we embrace “moving forward” in our approach with communicaon, we understand the importance of ongoing communicaon between educators and parents. It is crical in our journey together as partners in educaon. Be assured that we will connue to connect with our families through email, phone calls, and conferences! With the arrival of grade cards, I would like to challenge you this week to do some reflecon with your child(ren)! Talk about how they feel as a learner, how they feel they are doing in school... not just academically, but socially and emoonally. Today’s learning looks and feels much different than our learning did growing up! I have given you just a few thoughts to begin the conversaons… Enjoy! First, find out what he/she likes best about school, what subject area they feel they excel in or an area where they feel like they need support. Look at their work and ask specific quesons. This allows you to understand the scope of your child’s learning and how to connect this informaon with informaon gained during conference me. Do this with loving care so they don’t feel you are looking for the things they are doing wrong, but focusing on what they are doing well. Second, it is a great me to set a goal with your child. We constantly set goals for ourselves as adults. Think how we feel when we achieve those goals; our students are no different. Set an aainable goal with your child that focuses on what they do well. Let your child be creave, but specific on what they would like to see for themselves this year. Maybe they want to finish a chapter book in a week. Maybe they will commit to doing their homework without an argument. Although these goals seem simple, they will make a great difference in your child’s learning. Just the commitment alone makes a difference! A connued thank you goes to all our families for your constant involvement, support, and encouragement you provide to our students every day. The saying, “it takes a village to raise a child,” has never been as important as it is today. With the increased level of rigor expected of our students to be our leaders of tomorrow, it takes “all of us” to educate our children, today, tomorrow, and forever! Set your goals, aain to the end, and achieve EXCELLENCE! This is the commitment of a high quality learning community as an “Engaged, Acve Learner!” Forward Learning, Amanda L. Riedl’s Roundup Celebrating Learning!

This month we continue to celebrate the success of our students in a variety of ways! This week was Character Counts Week and we have been celebrating great character. In addition, we have celebrated individual student learning gains as we conclude Quarter 1 and begin Quarter 2. And most importantly, we have been in communication with our families on the successes and areas of opportunity of our students.

Grade cards arrived home on Monday in a new way. Forging ahead, although as a “mama” this was quite difficult for even me, we are now viewing grade cards electronically. Who would have ever thought! But as we continue to keep up with our digital natives (our students), we have to make sure that we are to utilizing the tools that make sense in the world we live! Thank you for your patience, flexibility and willingness to move forward and be active in these times as we transition to new ways of communication! Although we embrace “moving forward” in our approach with communication, we understand the importance of ongoing communication between educators and parents. It is critical in our journey together as partners in education. Be assured that we will continue to connect with our families through email, phone calls, and conferences!

With the arrival of grade cards, I would like to challenge you this week to do some reflection with your child(ren)! Talk about how they feel as a learner, how they feel they are doing in school... not just academically, but socially and emotionally. Today’s learning looks and feels much different than our learning did growing up! I have given you just a few thoughts to begin the conversations… Enjoy!

First, find out what he/she likes best about school, what subject area they feel they excel in or an area where they feel like they need support. Look at their work and ask specific questions. This allows you to understand the scope of your child’s learning and how to connect this information with information gained during conference time. Do this with loving care so they don’t feel you are looking for the things they are doing wrong, but focusing on what they are doing well.

Second, it is a great time to set a goal with your child. We constantly set goals for ourselves as adults. Think how we feel when we achieve those goals; our students are no different. Set an attainable goal with your child that focuses on what they do well. Let your child be creative, but specific on what they would like to see for themselves this year. Maybe they want to finish a chapter book in a week. Maybe they will commit to doing their homework without an argument. Although these goals seem simple, they will make a great difference in your child’s learning. Just the commitment alone makes a difference!

A continued thank you goes to all our families for your constant involvement, support, and encouragement you provide to our students every day. The saying, “it takes a village to raise a child,” has never been as important as it is today. With the increased level of rigor expected of our students to be our leaders of tomorrow, it takes “all of us” to educate our children, today, tomorrow, and forever! Set your goals, attain to the end, and achieve EXCELLENCE! This is the commitment of a high quality learning community as an “Engaged, Active Learner!”
