Announcement of Upcoming International Training Programs National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Hyderabad, India has announced 15 International Trainings under Feed The Future India Triangular Training (FTF ITT) Program during January to June, 2018. Participating Countries: Afghanistan, Botswana, Cambodia, Kenya, Malawi, Liberia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Lao-PDR, Myanmar, Mongolia, Mozambique, Rwanda, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and Vietnam Nominations: MANAGE seeks the nominations from partner countries through designated Point of Contacts (POCs) of Respective Governments. Nominating entities and applicants will be required to submit their respective nominations and applications directly to respective Point of Contact. MANAGE will be responsible for reviewing the applications and selecting the final participants based on suitability to the program.

International Training Program in November, 2017

12th International Training Program on “Post-harvest Technologies in Horticulture Crops” is scheduled during 06 – 20th November, 2017 at ICAR - Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR), Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. We have received nominations from 26 executives from 12 countries.

Second Third Country Training Program in Kampala, Uganda

Training on “Entrepreneurship Development among Rural Women” for Rural Development/ Agricultural Professionals from Uganda during 14-23, November, 2017 at St. Augustine Leadership Training Center, Nsambya, Kampala, Uganda in partnership with Kudumbasree, Kerala, India. The training program is a collaborative undertaking involving the Government of India, United States of America and Government of Uganda.

Director General, MANAGE visits Michigan State University (MSU) A three-member MANAGE delegation comprising of V. Usha Rani, IAS, Director General (DG), MANAGE, Dr. V. P. Sharma, Director (ITDP) and Dr. Srinivasacharyulu Attaluri, Program Officer visited Michigan State University (MSU) during 10-15 September 2017 for a Study Visit with an objective to study the Innovations in MSU Extension and work out collaborative programs between MANAGE and MSU. MANAGE delegation met the Leaders of MSU Extension, AgBioResearch, MSU Busin ess College and held interactive meetings to understand Extension, Research and Agri-Business Education at MSU to explore possible collaboration mutually by MANAGE and MSU.

MANAGE team made extensive field visits to Research Centers, MSU Product Center, Incubation Centers, Sugar Cooperative (Sugarbeet), Food Processing and Innovation Center and

Participating Countries: Afghanistan, Botswana, Cambodia, Kenya, Malawi, Liberia, Democratic

Republic of Congo, Ghana, Lao-PDR, Myanmar, Mongolia, Mozambique, Rwanda, Sudan, Tanzania,

interacted with Extension Experts, Scientists and Farmers to study and understand the comprehensive role of MSU Research – Extension – and Outreach activities. An Action Plan for future collaboration between MANAGE and MSU was presented in a concluding meeting with faculty from MSU.

Visit to Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) Dr. P. Chandra Shekara, Director (Agril.Extn.), National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Hyderabad visited Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) during 9th to 17th October, 2017. The purpose of the visit was to facilitate the participation of Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) which is one of the Partner Countries in ‘Feed The Future India Triangular Training (FTF ITT) Program’, to identify the Point of Contact (POC), Partner Institution, Training priorities and to understand the opportunities for investments in Agriculture. During the visit, Dr. P. Chandra Shekara met Mr. Georges Kazadi Kabongo, Hon’ble Agriculture Minister of DRC in presence of His Excellency Indian Ambassador Mr. Ashok Warrier, Cabinet Director of Agriculture Ministry; Mrs. Ifemo Basele Marie-Caroline, Deputy Director in Ministers office; Dr. Mwewa Beya Odette, Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture, Lubumbashi and Mr. Rasheed Patel, one of the leading Indian Industrialist in Congo and President of Federation of Enterprises in Congo. Further, Dr. P. Chandra Shekara visited USAID Office and met Mission Director, USAID, Congo, Dy. Director and Food Security Officials. Also visited Terra Farms and Africa Mills owned by Somika Industries of Mr. Chetan Chug, Chairman, Somika Mineral Company of Lubumbashi. The visit was successful with sensitization of FTF ITT Program among Stakeholders, identified Point of Contact (POC), Partner Institution, training priorities for DRC, created awareness about MANAGE Programs and identified investment opportunities in DR Congo.

Back at Work Plan Progress Charcoal Briquette from farm Waste – An Initiative by Nakitto Sarah from Uganda

Nakitto Sarah from Uganda participated in the International Training Program on “Farm Mechanization for Small Farmers” during 11-25th April, 2017 at ICAR-CIAE, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India. She has started a Briquette making project. There is currently a lot of farm waste in the Katikamu Parish in Wobulenzi Town council area which is mis managed through burning. The Katikamu Women's Devt Group add value to this wastes through innovations of Charcoal Briquettes Production. Five bags of Briquettes are produced per week and all are sold as the market is readily available for the product. The group has confessed that a lot of money can be made out of the Project. Many people like them because they are clean and smokeless.

Program Management Unit (PMU), MANAGE would like to welcome Ms. Shakera Parveen to the team. Ms. Shakera is an Agricultural graduate from UAS Dharwad and have a Masters in Business Management from Karnataka University. She has previously worked for the HDFC Bank for 3 years in the capacity of Assistant Manager, then continued her studies and got a Masters in Sustainable Water Management from Kristianstad University, Sweden. She then joined an Indian based consultancy company in Sweden as a Business Development Manager and worked there for a year. She has joined MANAGE, Hyderabad on 20th October, 2017 as Program Executive, PMU.
