Psalm 95

O come, let us sing to the LORD; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise! For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods. In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also. O come, let us worship and bow down, let us kneel before the LORD, our Maker! For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand.

OLD HUNDREDTH

All People That on Earth Do Dwell

God of comfort and compassion, through Jesus your Son, you lead us to the water of life and the table of your bounty. May we who have received the tender love of our Good Shepherd be strengthened by your grace to care for your flock; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Precious Lord, Take My Hand Thomas Dorsey/Jack Schrader

Precious Lord, take my hand, lead me on, help me stand, I am tired, I am weak, I am worn; through the storm, through the night, lead me on to the light. Take my hand, precious Lord, lead me home.

When my way, my way, grows drear, precious Lord, linger near, when my life, when my life is gone, almost gone; hear my cry, hear my call, O lest I fall, O take my hand, O lead me home.

ALLELUIA NO. 1

Alleluia, Alleluia! Give Thanks (refrain) The Gospel Acclamation will be sung once before the Gospel, and again after the Gospel.

Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow

Please note: This is a different setting of the Doxology than is typically sung, with a different—though very familiar—tune. Its many “alleluias” make it especially fitting to be sung during the Easter season.

Beginning Wednesday, May 29, 10:00 AM, Room 101 The seven-week study will be led by Wallace Bubar. The book of Ecclesiastes is one of the most puzzling books in the Bible. The au-thor speaks with a distinctive voice, sometimes wry, sometimes skeptical, sometimes cynical. It raises a lot of important ques-tions—about faith, work, and the meaning of life. Author John C. Purdy writes: “Ecclesiastes belongs in the Bible in the same way that the blues belongs in the canon of American music. Who would want to banish the blues and hear only Bach, Beethoven and Bern-stein?” Join us as we explore it together!

Thursday, May 30, 7:00 PM, Sanctuary Featuring Art Cullen, editor of The Storm Lake Times, winner of the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Writing, and author of Storm Lake: A Chronicle of Change, Resilience, and Hope from a Heart-land Newspaper. Michael Gartner will also be present to engage Cullen in conversation. Cullen’s book is part cultural history, part memoir. It explores the themes of family, community, immigration and diversity, the meaning of home, and the Heartland’s turbulent history and promising progressive future. Written by a small-town newspaper editor who has earned journalism’s highest honor, Cullen’s book shows us an optimistic way forward — that there is still hope for us living in the Heartland of rural America.

The long-awaited elevator replacement began Monday, May 6 and is expected to take approximately three weeks. We are sorry for the inconvenience, but during this time period, the elevator will not be available.

Thomas Dorsey was successful in Chicago nightclubs, but as a Christian he was urged to use his musical talent for the Lord. In 1932, he was invited to go to St. Louis and lead the music for a large revival meeting. His wife was pregnant and he didn’t want to leave her but he made the trip. The second day of the revival meetings, he received a telegram. The baby had been born, but his wife had died in childbirth. He rushed back to Chicago and held the baby in his arms. A few hours later, his infant son died, too. Mother and baby were buried to-gether. Dorsey was devastated. He felt that he was trying to serve God, and then this happened. In anger, he called out, “God, you aren’t worth a dime to me right now.” A few weeks later, still depressed, he sat down at the piano and the words and music simply came to him. With tears streaming down his face, he sang, Precious Lord, Take My Hand. Submitted by Brook Smith
