There’s something to be said about brand consistency. You work hard to make sure that your business cards, brochures and website all deliver your brand consistently. Unfortunately it’s easy to forget to include email marketing.

Your email marketing is a key element in maintaining your online brand. This is your proactive communication tool and needs to maintain and support the brand you’ve created.

Email marketing brand consistency falls into two categories:

Email templates linking to website pages.Email templates linking to specific email landing pages.

Try to make sure your email reflects your website as much as you can. Some of your subscribers will have signed up from your website and will recognise your brand in that all important first email. If it’s very different they might not remember who you are and delete your email or mark your email as spam.

If you have collected the email addresses from another source, when your subscribers click through there needs to be consistency, otherwise they may think they’ve come to the wrong website or that the link is broken.

Notice how the headers, logo, font header colour and content colour are consistent across the email, main website and website landing page.

You may not always be able to create a landing page for your email campaign on your website. If this is the case and you will need to create a landing page elsewhere and inject your brand into this page.

You don’t have to follow the format of your website exactly, but make sure you have included your logo, been consistent with your tone, font size and colour and include at least one text and image link back to your main website.

the good example, there’s a logo and the text colour and size are consistent with the email template. The main image on the top right also helps connect the two mediums.

The bad example could confuse subscribers as there’s nothing immediately apparent to indicate this is the correct landing page.

It’s all about consistency. If you’re recognisable then your subscribers won’t feel lost and leave either your website or your landing pages.

Your email template doesn’t have to be identical to your website, or your email landing page identical to your email template, it just needs to be familiar enough to make a connection for your subscriber.

Use font size, colour and tone to help provide that connection.

Always include your logo.

Always include links to your website from your email template and your email landing pages.
