Medical  Alert

About LifeLink

This company has an interesting history. Their beginnings were actually in the computer and technology field in 1990. In 2003, an employee who was a caregiver for her grandmother found a device that automatically dialed by pressing a key fob. The company figured that although this device did what it was made to do, it could be improved upon. They then decided to change their focus and go into the medical alert field. They decided that they could make products that would not only be more user friendly for the elderly and handicapped, but to improve on the longevity of the system itself which means that it saves money in the long run. Boasting wonderful customer service, LifeLink feels secure that they can guarantee you some of the best medical alert equipment and service in the industry.

Warranty

Your system carries a 1 year warranty from the date of purchase. You can purchase one of two longer warranties if you choose. The extended warranty will cover any failures due to manufacturing defects and does not include damage that you have done to it yourself. The gold warranty functions the same but you get two additional years of coverage for a total of three years.

The Good

•  Experience in the technology and computer fields.

•  Many different al a carte products for purchase to enhance your medical alert experience.

•  No monthly fee

•  One time purchase of equipment

•  8 emergency contacts can be stored in the device.

•  $12 flat rate shipping to the U.S. and Canada

•  In the event you want to scare intruders, you can use the system to set off a barking dog. There are 3-4 different patterns so it sounds more realistic.

The Bad

•  There is not a monitoring center. All calls made from the device go to specified family, friends or caregivers that you had previously designated.

•  Equipment is expensive as a one time purchase.

•  Installation takes about 15 minutes to set up, versus other companies that take much less time.

•  No fall detection though you can program the system to have an alarm go off and if it is not acknowledged within 15 minutes, then it goes into emergency mode.

•  Blog posts are sporadic.

Summary

The Prodigy system is different than many other alert systems in that there is no monitoring center. This is your own personal device that you program numbers into to call when you have an emergency. Overall, this system seems worth looking into. It could very well serve your needs. We suggest this product for more independent people and not for those that need fall detection or critical health alerts. Because this device is made to function independently of a response call center, there are many more personalized features to it so you can customize your experience.
