We have had a large number of enrolments in the last week and are endeavouring to get our new students into class as quickly as possible. This year we have formed 22 classes and to date have an enrolment of 481 students, the largest our school has been since computerised records on enrolments commenced in 2004. This has put pressure on enrolments in some grades, with only local enrolments being accepted in these years to allow us to continue to work within our current class structure. Due to the increased number of classes we have had to revisit our class naming protocols and return to a traditional practice of using colours. This is taking some getting used to, however we are confident the students will be able to keep us all on track! Our staffing structure for 2019 can be found on the next page. As part of our staffing structure for 2019 we have congratulated Mrs Belinda Hyde on being permanently appointed as an Assistant Principal at Lethbridge Park Public School and Mrs Fran Kalic on being permanently appointed as a classroom teacher. Mr Nicholas De Lorenzo and Mrs Sharna Raye have also joined us in a permanent capacity. Our incoming temporary staff for 2019 include Mrs Lisa Romero (office), Miss Sheila Reyes (RFF teacher) and Mrs Amanda Pilarowski (RFF teacher). We anticipate the merit based appointment of an additional teacher to commence term 2. Week 2 bbq afternoon tea This Wednesday afternoon from 3pm we would like to invite our community to an afternoon tea bbq from 3pm. There is no cost attached to this event, we are eager to say hello at the start of the new year and to take some time to get to know each other. Please join us for a sausage sandwich and take the time to have a chat with the staff at LPPS. Fixed Equipment Over the vacation we had the chip bark surface removed from around our fixed equipment and the process of replacing it with a yellow and green rubberised surface is well under way. This will blend into artificial grass to complement the existing surface adjacent to the fixed equipment. Not only will this be much more aesthetically pleasing, we anticipate an increased level of safety for the students, and perhaps less dirt and bark in our students' shoes. We are hoping for completion in the next few days. New technology—interactive panel board LPPS has had Smartboards for over 10 years—these are now fairly old technology and have been superseded by LED touch screen devices that allow for multiple students to operate boards at the same time and do not require projectors. Last week we had the first of our original Smartboards replaced with an LED panel board in Miss Hendy's room. This board even has a button to raise and lower the board depending upon the student’s height! Luke Hubbert Principal

Newsletter Term 1 Week 2 2019

Welcome back

Welcome back to 2019—we have had a fairly smooth return to school with the students engaging in their new classes positively. We have had a large number of enrolments in the last week and are endeavouring to get our new students into class as quickly as possible. This year we have formed 22 classes and to date have an enrolment of 481 students, the largest our school has been since computerised records on enrolments commenced in 2004. This has put pressure on enrolments in some grades, with only local enrolments being accepted in these years to allow us to continue to

work within our current class structure.

Due to the increased number of classes we have had to revisit our class naming protocols and return to a traditional practice of using colours. This is taking some getting used to, however we are confident the students will be able to keep us all on track! Our staffing structure

for 2019 can be found on the next page.

We anticipate the merit based appointment of an

additional teacher to commence term 2.

Week 2 bbq afternoon tea

This Wednesday afternoon from 3pm we would like to invite our community to an afternoon tea bbq from 3pm. There is no cost attached to this event, we are eager to say hello at the start of the new year and to take some time to get to know each other. Please join us for a sausage sandwich and take the time to have a chat with

the staff at LPPS.

Fixed Equipment

Over the vacation we had the chip bark surface removed from around our fixed equipment and the process of replacing it with a yellow and green rubberised surface is well under way. This will blend into artificial grass to complement the existing surface adjacent to the fixed equipment. Not only will this be much more aesthetically pleasing, we anticipate an increased level of safety for the students, and perhaps less dirt and bark in our students'

shoes. We are hoping for completion in the next few days.

New technology—interactive panel board

LPPS has had Smartboards for over 10 years—these are now fairly old technology and have been superseded by LED touch screen devices that allow for multiple students to operate boards at the same time and do not require projectors. Last week we had the first of our original Smartboards replaced with an LED panel board in Miss Hendy's room. This board even has a button to raise and

lower the board depending upon the student’s height!

It has been over a year since the playgroup started and we have grown in numbers, with some of our school families attending as well as families coming along from community. Rose Park playgroup is a safe space for families and children to enjoy each other’s com-

pany It provides a place for parents to play with their children and get to know other families, as well as offering opportunities and information for families to build connections in the

local community. Your children will be able to enjoy fun toys, activities and craft. We have singing and sto-ry time, morning tea and a lot of free play for them to explore and develop. At playgroup our focus is supporting the well-being of children and their families. We are very passionate about being inclusive of all peoples and cultures. We understand children thrive when home, school and community work together from birth and recognises that parents are a child’s first teacher, so we strive to run activities that build on this important role. Kathy, who facilitates the playgroup every week, offers a new activities program each

term. The program offers fun activities for children to enjoy, while giving them the oppor-

tunities to try out new skills, explore their imagination and creativity, and learn about re-

lationships with their peers and other people. Parents enjoy these activities as well and

love watching their children develop as they play and learn and practice new skills.

Rose Park Playgroup provides; Opportunities for families and members of the community to meet and get to know each

other Helps families and the school to get to know one another and family services Enables children's start to school easier by linking the school with families with 0-5 year

olds Rose Park Playgroups’ namesake is Rosemary Wallace, a former employee of the school.

Rosemary was one of the founders of Play Park, a playgroup set up at the school, the be-

fore and after school service as well as school holiday programs.

Drop in, have a cuppa and join in with the activities. Everyone is welcome

Rose Park Playgroup meets on Wednesdays during every school term,

9am to 12.00pm, in the schools’ community room – ‘Rose Park’ room
