Three football pitches and seating for 3,500 spectators willbe installed in Glasgow’s George Square this month, when

In a recent BBC interview, Mr Young said:“George Square wil provide a unique location for the 2016tournament. Our mission is to bring the tournament to thecentre of the cities we visit, because homelessness isn'tsomething that should be tucked away". He added: "We needto talk about it, therefore being here was very important. Uniquely presented through memoir, essay and ephemera,The Haunted Moustache is a brandnew book from David

Bramwell, best known as creator of the Cheeky Guides andhost of the Catalyst Club. The Haunted Moustache began lifeas a oneman show, winning comedy and theatre awardsduring Brighton Festival in 2008and was dramatised for BBCRadio 3 in 2011, winning a SonySilver Award.

For those who don’t know thestory, it is the fantastical and‘83% true’ account of a uniqueinheritance: a centuryoldmoustache which Davidreceived from an eccentric auntwhen he first moved toBrighton. Keen to discovermore about its former owner Bramwell embarked on a tenyear journey which drew him into the underbelly of Brighton –its séances, spiritual churches and a seedy basement club –where he unwittingly becomes the host of a modernday freakshow. The memoir takes a darker turn when he joins a cult, dabbles with mindaltering psychedelics and comes close tobeing murdered.

The Haunted Moustache also pays tribute to a wealth ofBrighton’s counterculture heroes, from Genesis POrridge toformer Dali model, Drako Zarhazar. Like the Cheeky Guide it isa true celebration of the incorrigible spirit of Brighton andeven comes with a glowing endorsement from comic bookwriter, Alan Moore: “The Haunted Moustache is a genuinelymarvellous demonstration of how beautifully the mechanismof reality functions, if you're paying sufficient attention.Neurologically, this will light you up like a Christmas tree.”

David will be at the Bookish Supper Salon in July 20th.Tickets include a hardback copy of the book, glass of sangriaand canapes. Tickets at tabl.comdrbramwell.com

DOGGY TALES

Each week Latest 7 willregale you with tales

about the dogs who live inBrighton (via their owners)and also introduce you torescue dogs, looking forforever homes.

First up is Floyd, a six yearold Jack Russell, Beagle cross, who currently resides atRaystede Centre for AnimalWelfare. This sweetnaturedboy is looking for his foreverhome, maybe you can help?

Val Suleski, Head OfKennels at Raystede, said:“Floyd is a handsome and veryquirky little chap! He will

make someone a wonderful,loyal companion”.

Having spent lots of timewith his previous male owner,he was brought to Raystedewhen circumstances sadlychanged. He has tried a fewnew homes but nothing suitsbecause he likes to bond withone person and not share, hecan also get anxious when leftalone.

Floyd is fun to walk, verysociable and likes most otherdogs (but not cats). He doeshave a stubborn streak whichis typical for his breed. He’s afavourite with the volunteers

and refuses to pass the cafewithout popping in to have asnack!

Floyd is looking for a homewith preferably one person (aterrier lover) who will dote on

him. A quieter environmentwith plenty of fun countrywalks would suit him best! If you would like to offer Floyda forever home, visit:www.raystede.org

ONLY IN BRIGHTON

The etiquette of Facebook is a tricky thing. I mostly use it topost if I’ve done something particularly ridiculous or

joyful – like spontaneously burst into song about bakedpotatoes for dinner, or fallen in a manner that would have atoddler laughing with brilliant abandon and lack of balance. Ofcourse I also share articles, pictures and videos of cute pandastoo. The difficulty comes when there’s something reallyimportant happening in my personal life or the news, something that touches me – and I don’t say a word about iton social media.

The last few months have not been without these occasions. From the appalling events in Orlando to politically goalpostchanging Brexit, as well as celebrity – and noncelebrity –deaths, there’s been plenty to affect me. And I love that othershave shared how they feel so passionately so publicly. Mytimeline shouts and thinks and feels gloriously. And it’s not thatI don’t. It’s just these things are so very raw, that I’d hate tocensor my friends their flippant barbs, but I won’t receive them.So instead, I feel privately. And admire those that can shout.

It's Sunday evening at Glastonbury 2016, for several reasonsone of the most emotional festivals there may ever have

been. PJ Harvey stops her terrifyingly flawless set half waythrough to read John Donne's ‘No Man Is An Island’, its wordsas prescient now as they were 392 years ago.

Ever since that collaboration of two of England's greatestartists of the last 500 years, I've not been able to look at theongoing newsworthy chaoswithout thinking one thingover and over: in times likethese, thank whatever putus here for the arts.

However you voted in thereferendum, only the mostpsychopathic coulddisagree that everythingthat's happened since has been objectively hideous. The racialattacks, the political duplicity, the economic uncertainty.

Where do you go when you allow yourself to entertain theselfish notion that the world has failed you? The media?

No, surely you drown yourself in great music, television, radio, theatre, books, galleries, sport (yes, sport can be art),dance. The best thing is, everyone's favourite kind of escape isslightly different. I might like weeping in a field near a powerfulspeaker system, but you might like smothering your nakedbody in paint and rolling around on a canvas. And that's great!

That oneminute poem recital by one of my alltime idols hasdone more to make me think things might be alright thananything someone in a suit on the telly could. When it allseems too much, how fortunate we are that some peoplechoose to be creative rather than destructive, expressiverather than insular. Sometimes you need someone else toexpress what you’re feeling back to you in a way you couldnever achieve yourself. You need catharsis, and you can’t becathartic without art. That would make you cathic, and that’snot a word.

My life is, and has been for as long as I can remember, peppered with the charming, and sometimes not so

charming, efforts of PRs, yes the driven public relations pixieswho feed us with the news of… well the news of what's new.

Some are good, some are excellent and some are, well let'snot go there, the good ones know who they are and the badones do a good job of pretending that they are good ones, that's PR for you.

Many years ago I had todeal with a PR companythat was held in very highesteem. I was designingbook covers back then andhad just done a cover for abook called ‘The Green Consumer Guide’. It was destined to bea huge title and indeed it was. The editor felt that the potentialrequired the attentions of a top PR company, and not our inhouse team. One was duly appointed and charged withcreating that "PR" buzz, which of course they dictated requireda big party.

The book was edited and designed and the cover wasapproved, a beautifully executed drawing of our planet thatwas also a beautifully drawn apple. Imagine my face when thePR company delivered the party invites with a drawing of arose growing through the cracks in a pavement. What the…?Was this Ab Fab preempted?

It's now twenty four years since Eddy (Jennifer Saunders)and Patsy (Joanna Lumley) first tottered onto our screens andnow ‘Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie’ arrives. In the face of amedia firestorm after an attempt to schmooze Kate Moss goesspectacularly awry, PR agent Eddy and magazine editor Patsyescape to their spiritual home – the French Riviera. Having recently joined the Latest TV news team asnewscaster and Head of Diversity, one of the first things

I was involved with was filming a pilot of some new titles forthe news featuring the whole team.

After capturing all of the required shots someone suggesteddoing a few 'fun' clips and the ‘Friends’ theme tune wasmentioned. Having been the singer in various bands over theyears I volunteered to sing whilst we all did the iconichandclap.

As we walked back to the studio I reflected on howappropriate the line that I'd sung was for my life, you see 'noone told me life was gonnabe this way.' As someonethat had known they weretransgender from the ageof seven, and struggledwith coming to terms withit for decades, I'd beenterrified that by comingout I was going to loseeverything: friends, family, career.

The reality though has proven to me that when you live anauthentic life sometimes the universe rewards you. I came outto the Premiership players of AFC Bournemouth last seasonand was greeted with applause. I still enjoy an amazingrelationship with the band that I photograph, The Libertines.I've spoken at conferences all over the country, includingWembley Stadium and the TUC, and my relationship with mykids is better than ever.

Now I have a new challenge, and it's one that I'd never havedreamt of before my transition. I'm very proud to have beengiven this opportunity and I feel a great responsibility to helpbreak down the prejudice that transgender people face daily.

I love my city and I love my life and I'm looking forward tosharing it with you!

The Brighton Festival may be over, but coming up soon is theEdinburgh Festival. I do realise that Edinburgh is hardly downthe road from Brighton and Southern Rail can hardly be reliedon to get us to London, letalone Scotland !

However, do not fear.Brighton is currently awash notonly in rain, but also previews. It's a time for acts to polish theirshows by doing previews beforeheading up to The EdinburghFestival.

One of the venues that hasbeen running these previews isThe Caroline of Brunswick(jointly with OiOi comedy) onDitchling Road, Brighton, upstairs in its 60 seat theatre. Ifyou are a comedy fan this is theplace to be.

In July and the beginning ofAugust, acts including SeannWalsh, Charlie Baker (EastEnders)Stephen Carlin and Steve Hewlett(Britain's Got Talent) plus manymore, will be previewing theirshows upstairs at The Caroline.

So, as the weather is a washoutand we’re out of the Euros, go andcheck out some of these brilliant shows before they go toEdinburgh and have a good laugh! If you wish to book tickets or check out who else is on, then go to:www.carolineofbrunswick.co.uk/comedyTickets will be available on the door too.www.oioicomedy.com

If you asked me if I liked pizzas a few years ago Iwould almost certainly have said that I could

take them or leave them. Then I went to Sicily andafter a pizza covered in speck and crushedpistachio nuts I was won over.

I have of course always thought that PizzaExpress is a reliable option when travelling, but oflate Brighton has seenan influx of great pizzajoints and the newest, hot from its Londonmother ship, is noexception.

I left it a few weeksbefore going along to Franco Manca and thenwent twice in a week. Something about it justworked, not least the great space, seeminglyplucked from nowhere in the centre of the city, ithas that cool, slightly industrial look that works sowell. It also has extremely friendly and helpfulstaff for whom nothing seemed too much trouble.

The menu is simple, a very short list of optionsand then a blackboard with one meat and onevegetarian special.

On my first visit I was joined by Ms C, atrencherwoman after my own heart and an idealguest always. We started by sharing a platter ofamazingly good fennel salami and a wholemozzarella of the very highest quality. I lovedboth, she preferred the sausage which was okayexcept that I felt guilty eating any more as I wasscoffing that whole cheese, ah well, what arefriends for.

For her main she chose the ham pizza andadded extra caramelised onions, a great choiceand she also opted to have some of theirhomemade tomato sauce as quite a few of thepizzas are white, as in having no tomato sauce. Ichose the special, which was white too, andtopped with extremely good sweet pork loin. Theoven is of course wood fired and the resultingcrust is crisp and quite delicious, not to be

trimmed away and left forsure. I had a glass of goodhearty red and Ms Cdrank fizzy water – suchrestraint!

A few days later I wasback with column regular

Mr L. We skipped a starter and went straight for apizza. This time we both chose from theblackboard, Mr L the one that I had tried beforewhilst I went for the vegetarian option toppedwith stilton, parmesan and goat curd to which Iadded capers. It was amazingly good, packed withpunchy flavours and deeply satisfying. We drank agood bottle of red too, and a sensibly priced one.Price of course is always important so let me saythat these pizzas are very inexpensive, both under£8 which has to be seen as excellent value. Mr Lalso had chocolate cake, which is a favourite of hisand loved that too. I went for a double espresso, piping hot and ever so tasty. I cannot recommendthis enough, the menu is simple but packed withdetails of the ingredients’ provenance, and theprice… well go find out for yourselves!Franco Manca, 12 Regent Street Brighton BN1 1UL, 01273 977128

Two of the UK’s favourite actors lead thecast in one of Noël Coward’s funniest

comedies as a brand new production ofPresent Laughter arrives at Theatre RoyalBrighton.

This brand new production stars SamuelWest as the flamboyant and selfobsessedactor, GarryEssendine, andPhyllis Logan asMonica Reed, his longsufferingsecretary.

Charming divaGarry Essendineis determined todisregard hisadvancing yearsby revelling inendlesstantrums andcasual affairs. He may be teetering reluctantlytowards middle age but everyone is infatuatedby Garry, and his antics and rampant flirtationsrequire the most careful handling by thoseclosest to him. About to depart for Africa, hefinds himself besieged by a bevy of would beseductresses, not to mention his acerbicsecretary, his estranged wife, and an obsessedyoung playwright. As he attempts todisentangle himself from their clutches anddemands, the sparkling comedy escalates.

Noël Coward’s semi autobiographicalcomedy, set in the glamorous world of theatre,is a gloriously witty portrait of the life thatwhirled around Coward in his heyday and iswidely considered to be one of his best lovedworks. Filled with the brilliant lines of a mastercraftsman, this new production blends razorsharp wit, dazzlingly funny dialogue, captivating characters and fabulous sets andcostumes.

Samuel West has performed extensively onstage and screen. He played Frank Edwards inall four series of ITV’s hit drama series MrSelfridge and, earlier this year, performed inBBC’s The Hollow Crown, markingShakespeare’s anniversary.

Phyllis Logan’s numerous television creditsinclude all six series of the multiawardwinning ITV drama Downton Abbey, in whichshe played the housekeeper Mrs Hughes, voted by The Radio Times as their favouritecharacter of the entire series. > Spectrum: Kristin McClement headlines

Brighton Dome project Spectrum cultivates and supportsthe vibrant music scene of Brighton in partnership with

Resident Records. They hold monthly gigs in the BrightonDome Studio Theatre, andJuly sees local modern folkartists Kristin McClementheadline.

Kristin’s music is born oftwo separate worlds: the vastshapeshifting landscape ofher childhood South Africaengraved with themelancholic romance of oldEngland's sacred woodland, rivers and valleys. Her debutalbum The Wild Grips wasreleased in February 2015 viaBrightonbased independentlabel Willkommen Records.

Produced by ChristianHardy of The Leisure Society, The Wild Grips is a wideeyedrendering of modern folk song where the acoustic and theelectronic rub alongside. Whilst making the album, Kristin andthe band were influenced as much by artists like PJ Harveyand Portishead as they were by the pure sounds of Nick Drakeand Leonard Cohen.

As well as touring throughout Europe, she has shared stageswith Benjamin Clementine, Laura Marling, Jessica Pratt andSam Lee, to name just a few.

In support is The Boy Who Kicked Pigs, the alter ego of KarlBray, onetime member of Kovak.

Just as the full orchestral season in Brighton has recentlyconcluded, the Brighton Philharmonic Orchestra offer the

third iteration of their Brighton Connections series over thesummer to keep usentertained. As with allBrighton Connectionsconcerts, local composers'work will be performedalongside more familiarchamber pieces.

Jack Redman is one ofthose young musical firecrackers who makes one questionone's age and achievements in befuddlement. At the age of 18,he has appeared at Royal Albert Hall, Wigmore Hall and theSouthbank Centre as well as at local churches and his place ofstudy: Lancing College. The world premiere of his piece Insectsfor 3 sees him delve into new compositional territory inspecifically writing for violin, viola and cello. The piece is splitinto small movements representing different insects soperhaps we can expect skittering soundscapes, or ominouslycrawling strings? I’m intrigued to find out...

The HandelHalvorsen Passacaglia for violin and cello is afast, vibrant piece that will make for a perfect showcase of theperformers' technical prowess. Mozart's duo for violin andviola no.1 has a more emotional, expansive sweep about ithowever that is all the more startling for its being expressedthrough just two intertwining string parts.

Bach's cello suite no.1 is probably the most recognisablesolo cello piece of music in the world, but is no less beautifuland beguiling for its popularity and omnipresence. The variedprogramme ensures that you’ll get a chance to sample classicpieces compared with Jack Redman's new work for a generousprice, and in a nice setting too.Brighton Connections, Sun 17 July, 5pm, Brighton UnitarianChurch, £15, www.brightonticketshop.com or 01273 709709
