Dear friends, Thank you so much for your participation in the

Archbishop’s Annual Appeal 2019. I am very grateful that we have once again responded to the call to share our gifts with the church. Embracing the concept of stewardship helps us understand that all that we are and all that we have is a gracious gift from God. Once we re-

cognize the benevolence of God we also understand the need we have to give back to God

by giving to the ministry of the Church. Out of that understanding comes our need to support the parish, the archdiocese and the Church at large. Once again, thank you for your generous participation in the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal. This week we begin the beautiful season of Lent. In to-day’s bulletin you will find the schedule of liturgies for Ash Wednesday, and the guidelines to celebrate Lent. As in years past we will have the Stations of the Cross every Fri-day in Lent at 7:00 p.m. We will also have the community meals after the Stations of the Cross. Next Saturday there is a Lenten Day of Reflection for all the women of the parish (there will be simultaneous translation into Spanish.) More details are included in this bulletin. God’s blessings

The Beautiful Season of Lent at Our Lady of La Salette

Lent is a season of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving; it is like a spiritual retreat calling us to a renewal of heart and a re-commitment to our baptismal promises. In order to see that our preparation for Easter has a communal, and not just an individual dimension, the Church gives us certain norms for a common Lenten observance. The Lenten guidelines for the Archdiocese of Atlanta are as follows:

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, and is a day of universal fasting and abstinence.

The following fasting and abstinence regulations are observed throughout Lent:

Abstinence from meat is observed on Ash Wednesday (March 6) Good Friday (April 19) and all the Fridays of Lent by all Catholics 14 years of age and older.

Fasting is observed on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday by all Catholics who are 18 years of age but not yet 59 years of age. Those bound by this rule may take only one full meal; two smaller meals are permitted as necessary to maintain strength according to one’s needs, but eating solid foods between meals is not permitted.

Those who are sick, pregnant, or nursing, or whose health would adversely be affected by fasting or abstinence should not consider themselves bound by these norms.

During the season of Lent, we are all called to embrace penances and to perform works of charity that reflect our de-sire for conversion of heart. Also, let us all pray fervently for the Catechumens who will celebrate the Easter Sacra-ments with us this year.
