THIS WEEKS READINGS Today let us put ourselves in the shoes of Zacchaeus, so eager to see Jesus that he climbed a tree to see over the crowd. Jesus is with us today, in our neighbor, in our midst as we gather together in his name, and in the bread and wine we offer as it is blessed and broken. We don’t need to climb a tree, yet we may find him difficult to see. Let us pray today for the eyes of Zacchaeus, eager to see Jesus wherever he can be found. QUESTION OF THE DAY Given space for repentance, for what failings do I need to seek forgiveness? To whom can I give space for repentance?

YOU ARE INVITED ! The family of Mildred Bourisaw are inviting everyone to an 80th Birthday celebration in the School Cafeteria on November 9th after 4pm Mass. Food & drinks will be

provided. Please RSVP so the family will know how much to prepare.

Parish School of Religion Mission Statement

With the help of Jesus Christ, the Master teacher and the power of the Holy Spirit, the mission of St. Joachim/St. Joseph PSR is to assist and support the parents in faith formation ,spiritual development, and the transformation of their children to become full, active and

participating Catholics and Missionary Disciples. Parish School of Religion Mission Statement With the help of Jesus Christ, the Master teacher and the power of the Holy Spirit, the mission of St. Joachim/St. Joseph PSR is to assist and support the parents in faith formation spiritual development, and the transformation of their children to become full, active and participating Catholics and Missionary Disciples. Server’s Training for St. Joachim School students and PSR students who would like to become or who are already altar servers with Deacon Ed on Wednesday, November 20 at 6 p.m. Rite of Enrollment for the Sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation is being celebrated today. What is a Rite of Enrollment? The Rite of Enrollment signifies the intent of the candidate to proceed with more intense spiritual formation. ATTENTION ! There are FREE Dynamic Catholic Books available in the church . If you, or you know of anyone who would want one, please feel free to take them one or two.

Few things hold us back more than our excuses for not praying, not attending Mass, and not following Christ’s teachings. All the while, we miss out on what God has to offer us. The story of Zacchaeus has much to teach us about all the blessings that can come our way once we put our excuses aside and take a risk for Jesus.

Dynamic Catholic, Alive! Christ as Son of Man Jesus is like us in all things except sin—a true “Son of Man,” as in a “son of Adam”! The New Adam—Jesus—not only created the first Adam but is also descended from the first Adam according to His human nature. This great act of humility, leading to the humiliation of the Cross, ultimately leads to salvation offered as a gift for the whole human race. If we embrace the Cross, we will find mercy, forgiveness, and redemption. (CCC 504-505, 539) archstl.org/dynamic

WHAT IS A PRAYER BLANKET ? A prayer blanket is a lap blanket made by Parish

volunteers. The blankets are blessed by our Parish Priest with special healing prayers. Those blankets

are then given to individuals who are sick or recovering from surgeries or perhaps mourning the loss of a loved one. They are meant to bring comfort to the suffering. If you need of one of

these blankets, you may pick up one at the Parish Office or you may call Rachel Politte at 854-9290

or Georgia Veach at 438-3637. The prayer blanket ministry would like to thank all

who have donated material to make these blankets, especially the members of the St. Ann

Sodality who have donated funds several times to purchase batting.

21 Benefits of Making the Sign of the Cross The Sign of the Cross is a simple gesture yet a profound expression of faith for both Catholic and Orthodox Christians. As Catholics, it’s something we do when we enter a church, after we receive Communion, before meals, and every time we pray. But what exactly are we doing when we make the Sign of the Cross? Here are 21 things: 1. Pray: We begin and end our prayers with the Sign of the Cross, perhaps not realizing that the sign is itself a prayer. If prayer, at its core, is “an uprising of the mind to God,” as St. John Damascene put it, then the Sign of the Cross assuredly qualifies. “No empty gesture, the sign of the cross is a potent prayer that engages the Holy Spirit as the divine advocate and agent of our successful Christian living,” writes Bert Ghezzi. 2. Open ourselves to grace: As a sacramental, the Sign of the Cross prepares us for receiving God’s blessing and disposes us to cooperate with His grace, according to Ghezzi. 3. Sanctify the day: As an act repeated throughout the key moments of each day, the Sign of the Cross sanctifies our day. “At every forward step and movement, at every going in and out, when we put on our clothes and shoes, when we bathe, when we sit at table, when we light the lamps, on couch, on seat, in all the ordinary actions of daily life, we trace upon the forehead the sign,” wrote Tertullian. 4. Commit the whole self to Christ: In moving our hands from our foreheads to our hearts and then both shoulders, we are asking God’s blessing for our mind, our passions and desires, our very bodies. In other words, the Sign of the Cross commits us, body and soul, mind and heart, to Christ. (I’m paraphrasing this Russian Orthodox writer.) “Let it take in your whole being—body, soul, mind, will, thoughts, feelings, your doing and not-doing—and by signing it with the cross strengthen and consecrate the whole in the strength of Christ, in the name of the triune God,” said twentieth century theologian Romano Guardini. 5. Recall the Incarnation: Our movement is downward, from our foreheads to our chest “because Christ descended from the heavens to the earth,” Pope Innocent III wrote in his instructions on making the Sign of the Cross. Holding two fingers together—either the thumb with the ring finger or with index finger-also represents the two natures of Christ.
