From the Principal: On Friday, October 25th, the teachers and I engaged in collaborative conversation in preparation for Par- ent-Teacher Conferences, which are November 7th. We reviewed the Iowa test results, analyzed the data, and set goals for instruction. We also reflected on and shared with others the various ways we assess student learn- ing, achievement, effort, and engagement. This work is essential as teachers are calculating and recording final grades for the first quarter. As you receive your child(ren)’s Iowa test results, report card, and reflect on their progress thus far, it is import- ant to remember the value we place on families and teachers working together to help each child have a success- ful year. One aspect of that partnership is the conferences. How do we suggest you prepare for the conference to make the most of that conversation? Here are some tips: Prepare by writing notes about things you want to share about your child and things happening at home that are affecting your child(ren). Write questions you have about curriculum, home- work, etc, and targeted aspects about progress. Because a goal of the conference is to develop an action plan, have a frank conversation and ask questions about strengths and challenges. This is also a time to ask questions about social interactions with peers. Also ask about how you can support the goals at home. After the conference, discuss the conference with your child(ren), clarify the goals, and how you will support their work at home. Stay in touch with the teachers as the year progresses. Be respectful of the time. If you think you need more than the time allotted, please be prepared to continue the conversation at a later date. Parent-Teacher Conferences is a half-day of school. We will dismiss at 11:30. You will be getting a separate email about signing up for conferences on Option C. In other news: Thursday, October 31st, is a dress down day. Students will be changing into their costumes starting at 12:30. The Pumpkin Prayer and Parade starts at 12:50, with class parties beginning around 1:30. There is no school for students on Friday, November 1st. It is a clerical day for teachers. Last spring we welcomed a team from WQED to film our students learning to play marbles. That documentary, entitled “All the Marbles” aired on WQED on October 17th, and several of our BTA students are interviewed. If you didn’t have a chance to see it, check out https://www.pbs.org/video/all-the-marbles-vhwkyh/ for the full episode.

From the Principal: On Friday, October 25th, the teachers and I engaged in collaborative conversation in preparation for Par-ent-Teacher Conferences, which are November 7th. We reviewed the Iowa test results, analyzed the data, and set goals for instruction. We also reflected on and shared with others the various ways we assess student learn-ing, achievement, effort, and engagement. This work is essential as teachers are calculating and recording final grades for the first quarter.

Student News: Scary Stories with Mrs. Fisher and Mrs. Bittner...The fourth and fifth graders read scary stories and ate smores for Halloween with the “Library Ladies”. One of the stories read was Vinder Viper by Basab Ghosh. It was about a man who inherited a house that everyone said was haunted. One night he got a call from the “Vinder Viper” saying he would be there in two weeks. The man was scared. After many calls saying he was coming, the Vinder Viper arrived and the man learned he was actually there to clean his windows. He was a window wiper! The k-3rd grades students shared in an Author Salute to by H. A. Rey and Margret Rey, authors of the famous Curious George books. Students read Curious George Makes Pancakes and practiced flipping their own Play-Doh pancakes. It was a very fun day in the library. By Erin Stein

Scholastic Summer ReadWe had a summer reading program and if your child participated, depending on how many minutes they read, they could earn free ice cream, a crazy sock day, a bookmark, a dress down day, and be entered into a raffle for a free Kindle. The winners of a Kindle were, drum roll please... Jack Kandravy and Jacob Bridgeman, both from 5th grade. Congratulations! Collectively BTA students read 72180 minutes this past summer. Nora Flaherty read the most minutes this summer, 4870 minutes! Congratulations, Nora! And a big congrats to any one else who participated. By: Allie Gruseck From the PTG SAVE THE DATE! Athletics:Congratulations to the cross country team on another exciting year! The team finished its’ season last Saturday at the Diocesan Championship which resulted in two 2nd place trophies for the De-velopmental Girls and Varsity Boys. The JV Boys won the Diocesan Championship for the second year in a row. It was a great season with a lot of personal and team accomplishments.

Congratulations to the JV Lady Bulldog Volleyball team on an impressive run in the playoffs! They won their first round games against Holy Cross and played St. Gabriel on Wednesday. Although they lost to St. Gabriel, they had a great season with everyone im-proving and learning a lot. Go Bulldogs!
