Maybury News Everyone is a learner and every experience is a learning opportunity.

The children said… We Responded

They wanted to learn more about different countries.

We will continue to hold our International week in the Autumn term to learn about countries about the world.

The children to be more involved in making decisions and solving problems.

We have set up a wellbeing committee including staff and children to discuss ways to enable all children and staff in school to be happy and healthy.

The Wellbeing committee asked for a new rock climbing wall in the playground.

A rock climbing wall will be installed over the summer holidays.

They wanted a quiet place to read and relax at lunchtimes.

We have set up a new reading shed which will enable children to have a quiet space at play and lunch to read.

The parents said… We Responded

They would like further opportunities for PE and physical activities.

We have organised additional workshops for archery this term and additional clubs including Judo will be offered from the Autumn term. We are also entering more competitions including Physifun competitions and inter school events. Next year we will be working with BDB for our sports/PE teaching and hope to use their facilities for our Key Stage 2 children in the sum-mer term.

What a busy and successful year we have had in the Early Years Foundation Stage. The children have made a very good start to their learning, developed good relationships with other children and adults are always excited to come to school and learn more.

This month we have been talking about ‘being brave’ as we move classes. The children have spent time in their new classes and are ready to move. This will help them settle quickly in September.

The whole Early Years Team feel that the children have been a delight to teach and we wish them all the best as they continue their learning journey.

Bumble Bees

Nursery have been learning about going on holiday and the children have enjoyed playing in their

aeroplane role play area as either the pilots or flight attendants. They have also made their own

aeroplanes outside and have been talking about remem-bering to take their passport, ticket and clothes on holiday with them.

Dragonflies

Dragonflies had a fun time on their trip to Alice Holt. We began by leaving school at 9am on a Yellow School Bus; this was exciting and we sang songs and talked all the way there. When we got to Alice Holt our first task was to find the forest treasure in the deep dark woods on The Highway Rat trail. We care-fully read the clues and followed the signs. After we finished the trail it was time for lunch which of course was the highlight of the day!

Finally, we had a quick play in the park before heading back to school.

The children were so well behaved, we were all very proud of them especially as it was such a hot day and we had to do lots of walking. Well done Dragonflies.

Have a lovely summer holiday, keep practising your phonics and reading, ready for Year One.

Ladybirds and Butterflies What a busy and fun time we have had in Key Stage 1 this month! Both classes took part in a Zumba workshop and visited the Muslim memorial peace gardens at Horsell Common. Butterflies took part in a Seaside workshop to celebrate the end of their Geography topic and visited the WWF to learn about British habitats and how to look after the animals that live in them. Ladybirds made grassheads as part of their Science topic about Plants and they went trampolining when they won the attendance award!

All the staff in Key Stage 1 wish you a very happy summer holidays. Please keep reading with your child over the 6 weeks and make the most of the time off from school to go on lots of trips and visits. Try to take part in the Woking library reading challenge, visit the WWF, go for a walk along the canal….. There is so much to do in and around Woking and you will give your child lots of wonderful memories and experi-ences. Mrs Roberts, Key Stage 1 Phase Leader

Key Stage 1 Update

We have been busy with Arts week. We have taken on many projects with many different media, such as: tissue paper, watercolour paints, poster paints and pastels. The children enjoyed going to the War Me-morial Peace Gardens and creating bark rubbings and doing some Andy Goldsworthy style creations.

Beetles class

As part of our DT curriculum, Beetles class have been getting creative creating photo frames. They started with a piece of plywood, they had to design, meas-ure, cut and join their wood together to make a frame. Once they had done this, they decorate their frame to their design. The children worked extremely hard creating their frames—they look incredible!

Ants Class

Ants class have been busy learning all about the Romans all of Summer term. The children wrote Roman menus and learnt about some of the disgusting foods that the Romans used to eat such as flamingo brains and rotten fish! To finish off their learning this week the children designed and made Roman mo-saics which can be used as drink coasters at home.

Spiders Class

Spiders have been learning about the Tudors and have recreated Tudor Roses by sewing them. We de-signed them first and then carefully cut out our materials. We sewed them together and then evaluated our work. The final roses looked lovely!

For art week, we have been studying aboriginal art with the theme of the sea. We created secret stories with symbols of lines and dots and then worked on creating our own aboriginal style paintings of sea-scapes.

Glow Worms

We have had a great time working with water colours and poster paints and cre-ating some Seurat style pointillism work. The children also created a pastel Mo-net– Lilies piece of work. We had lots of fun using our imagination to create some surrealism inspired by Dali.

Times table rock stars

What an incredible term we have had learning our times tables! Over the summer holidays we are going to run a times tables competition.

In September, when you come back to school, the teachers will be looking for the most improved player in each class—this doesn’t mean you have to be the fastest or have the most coins. You just need to beat your own score by practising your times tables!

Good luck!
