Friday, December 6,2013. This holiday
activity is guaranteedto become an annual
community tradition!The event will includea light parade with golf
carts and other motorized vehicles, a home decorating competition, and areception at the Sage Center.
A planning committee is needed to help coordinate this fun-lled event.
Attendance is required at periodic planning meetings, as well as a strongdesire and commitment to facilitate and produce all aspects of the event.
The rst committee meeting will be scheduled in August and willbe announced after the committee is assembled.

Sharon and Bob both grew up in CentralNebraska and moved to Arizona to escapethe cold winters, mosquitos, and the humid
summers. They still remain loyal to the Big Redas you will see the Husker Flag ying high everySaturday during the football season in theirbackyard. Bob and Sharon are full time Arizonaresidents, unless they fnd another warm place totravel with a beach and wine. Several trips eachyear are centered around their four grandsonsand boys activities.
Bob worked in the Crop Insurance businessfor thirty-three years throughout Nebraska and the midwest. Sharon was working for3M Company as an inventory control supervisor when she met Bob. Upon leavingthe corporate world in 1997, they combined their talents to start and grow a cropinsurance agency and service center. In 2007, they sold the agency and service center
and looked for a place to retire, build a home, and thus their arrival at Sun City Festivalin 2008.
Bob and Sharon like to share a good bottle of wine or beverages with friends andneighbors, and they both belong to Barrel Buddies and the Brew Crew. Sharon hasjoined the Pottery/Ceramics Club, and Bob participates in the Softball Club. They bothenjoy playing the Copper Canyon Golf Course. Sun City Festival has become home withfriends and neighbors from many states and Canada to share new adventures andactivities. GO BIG RED!

Much like the muscles and heart, the brain needs exerciseto keep it strong and functioning effectively. Also, like the
muscles and the heart, without exercise and some TLC the brain tends to losefunction with age. The good news is that we can do things to help the brain and
memory in order to avoid age-related decline.
Reduce stress and anxiety. Cortisol, a hormone released when we are under
stress, has been shown to shrink the memory centers of the brain. Stretching, re-laxation and meditation have all demonstrated stress relief,
reduced cortisol levels and memory improvement.
Multi-tasking can actually be detrimental to memoryfunction. Stick to one task at a time. When attempting to
focus on multiple tasks, the brains processing changes andmemory diminishes. Focus on one task at a time to ensuremaximum memory of both. For example, listening to news
while reading a magazine will diminish recall of both.
Keep the cholesterol under control. Just as cholesterol creates plaque blockagesin veins and arteries of the heart, the fatty substance also creates blockages in
the brain. The results are just the same. Blockages diminish blood fow to thebrain, robbing it of oxygen and nutrients.
Use prescription drugs with caution and discretion. Many common medicationscan stay in the body for a long time and create memory lapse. These include:
beta-blockers, painkillers, sleeping pills, anti-anxiety and anti-depression drugs.Sip some red wine. Resveratrol found in red wine helps keep cholesterol in check
and reduces risk of circulation-blocking plaque build-up. Resveratrol may alsohelp ward off Alzheimers disease.
Eat the good stuff. Omega-3 fats are great for helping brain and memory func-tion. In addition, foods rich in antioxidants (many fruits and vegetables) also
boost brain power.
Keep moving. A brisk walk every day, or other cardiovas-cular exercise increase circulation and oxygen to the brain.
This helps growth of white matter and will increase neuronconnections.
Practice brain games. Crossword puzzles, Sudoku, cardgames, and anything challenging to the memory work well to
help maintain the brain function. In short, if you dont use it,you lose it. Lumosity.com and other websites provide tools
and games to help improve memory skills.
We have many tools which can help maintain memory and cognitive function ofthe brain. As with the rest of the body the brain is something which needs stimu-lation and activity to maintain tip-top condition.
