THE PRINT CLOTH MARKET TO IMPROVE GENESEE RIVER Plans for Storage Reservoir Above Portage Adopted. Albany. Dec. 4.— Maps and plans for the improvement of the Genesee River by the construction of a storage reservoir at Por- tage, above Letehworth Park, have b<?«>n adopted by the State Water Supply Com- mission and the order made to tile the same in the offices of the County Clerks of Monroe. "Wyoming and "Livingston coun- ties, in which property -will be benefited. The cost of the improvement of the river will he $4.385.000. and a tentative, apportion- ment made by the Commission in accord- ance -with the law. will divide the ex- pense so that it will he borne by the counties, towns, the city of Rochester, the villages and the individual owners of prop- erty in the Improvement district in pro- portion to the benefits each will receive. Much "damage has teen caused by the Genes*-^, owing- to its extremely uneven flow. In Rochester alone th» flood loss In a single year has amounted to a total of $1,000,000 and 2«,030 acres of farm land are overflowed nearly every year. The proposed reservoir -will create a lake 15 miles long", extending from Portage up the bed of the river so as to cover por- tions of Wyoming, Livingston and Alle- gany counties. The reservoir will store 18,000,000,000 cubic feet of water and its area, when filled, will be 1% square miles. Its average width will be one mile and its shore line approximately 40 miles. The length of the dam at the top will be 800 feet and It will be 152 feet nigtt. It will be 115 feet thick at the bottom and will contain 154.000 cubic yards of masonry. Objection has been made in the past to the location of the dam above the falls of the Genesee Riv£r, which, constitute the most beautiful feature of Letchworth Park. It Is proposed, however, in operating- the dam always to maintain a sufficient flow of water so that the amount of water passing over the falls will be above the minimum amount which now flows in the stream. It has been pointed out that the existence of a lake, nicn as the reservoir will form, adjoining the- p*rk aril] add to Its attractiveness. BUILDING LOAN CONTRACT. TO IMPROVE GENESEE RIVERPlans for Storage Reservoir

Above Portage Adopted.Albany. Dec. 4.— Maps and plans for the

improvement of the Genesee River by theconstruction of a storage reservoir at Por-tage, above Letehworth Park, have b<?«>nadopted by the State Water Supply Com-mission and the order made to tile the

same in the offices of the County Clerks ofMonroe. "Wyoming and "Livingston coun-ties, in which property -will be benefited. The cost of the improvement of the river

will he $4.385.000. and a tentative, apportion-ment made by the Commission in accord-ance -with the law. will divide the ex-pense so that it will he borne by thecounties, towns, the city of Rochester, thevillages and the individual owners of prop-

erty in the Improvement district in pro-portion to the benefits each willreceive.

Much "damage has teen caused by theGenes*-^, owing- to its extremely unevenflow. In Rochester alone th» flood lossIn a single year has amounted to a totalof $1,000,000 and 2«,030 acres of farm landare overflowed nearly every year.

The proposed reservoir -will create a lake15 miles long", extending from Portage upthe bed of the river so as to cover por-tions of Wyoming, Livingston and Alle-gany counties. The reservoir will store18,000,000,000 cubic feet of water andits area, when filled, will be 1% squaremiles. Its average width will be one mileand its shore line approximately 40 miles. The length of the dam at the top will be800 feet and It will be 152 feet nigtt. Itwill be 115 feet thick at the bottom andwillcontain 154.000 cubic yards of masonry.

Objection has been made in the past tothe location of the dam above the fallsof the Genesee Riv£r, which, constitute themost beautiful feature of Letchworth Park.It Is proposed, however, in operating- thedam always to maintain a sufficient flowof water so that the amount of waterpassing over the falls will be above theminimum amount which now flows in thestream. It has been pointed out that theexistence of a lake, nicn as the reservoirwill form, adjoining the- p*rk aril] add toIts attractiveness.
