Motivation – International Program in Engineering (IPE)

Critical factors in industrial engineering: Globalization, market & costumer requirements,

upcoming new technologies, critical production ratio in GDP, …

How do we run the production & logistics of the future? What will change, what

do we need?

What are the competencies, skills and capabilities of future engineers to make

this happen?

Automation & System

Engineering

Business & Technical Processes

Information Management

& Systems

Business focus: broad field of production, which includes manufacturing

(products, components and machines), logistics and asset & service management.

But: This is not an ‘Mini MBA’ – strong engineering focus!

Resulting current initiatives in industry countries:

‘Industry 4.0’ , ‘Integrated Industry’ , ‘Industrial Internet’, …

Interdisciplinary DHBW offering:

IPE with track ‘Production Systems Engineering’,

offering undergraduate academic studies and

enabling students to gain the skills and competencies

needed to get companies on track to the ‘future of

production’.

International Program in Engineering – Experience

» IPE13: April 11th (4th) – July 1st, 2016

» 26 students: 20 internal DHBW students, 6 international (Korea, China and Mexico)All students would decide again to participate in IPE!

“IPE is the perfect mix of learning, connection and exploring: learn new things, connect new people and explore other cultures.” (Luis Vazquez Rivas, Mexico )

“I've participated in the IPE program because it's a great chance to improve English skills as well as learning new interesting about Industry 4.0.” (Silas Waap, DHBW Student)

Already there: ‚Living Lab‘ at DHBW MosbachCompetence Center ‚Production- and Information-Management‘

The Digital Factory (‚Industry 4.0‘) is envisioned, implemented and established in the lab. It is used asfoundation for practical education and transferresearch:

» Reproduction of typical production systems andmanufacturing processes in form of models andsimualtions

» Usage and Embedding of newest components in automation

» Networking, analysis and control with real information systems, like MES (Manufacturing Execution System) and ERP (Enterprise Ressource Planning)

» Inclusion of process management and KPI (Key Perfomance Indicator) systems

‚Why‘? – Evolution Theory and Industry 4.0

Charles Robert Darwin (1809-1882)

“It is not the strongest species,

nor the most intelligent that

survive, but the ones that are

most adaptive to change.”
