PLANET IPE SEPTEMBER 2017 - STRATEGY MEET SPECIAL EDITION

Page 2: PLANET IPE - IPE Global

Today, you are not here because of me, I am here because of you’’

- Ashwajit Singh, Managing Director

IPE StoryContinuous innovation and rapid transformation have been themes throughout our history, which began when few alumni of the London School of Economics (LSE) established Infrastructure Professionals Enterprise Private Limited in 1998 or what would be known as ‘IPE Global’ was born.

The thought was envisaged in the triumphant decade of the 1990s; an age characterised by rapid development, marked by liberalisation and globalisation. This coupled with an enactment of 73rd and 74th Constitutional Amendments in the year 1993 -an event of almost epochal importance in the history of local govern-

ment institutions in India, whereby Government of India had decided to devolve powers down the line to Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and Urban Local Bodies (ULBs). Today, we have demystified sustainability from being a ‘corporate buzzword’ into a discipline capable of delivering solutions, with a passion for heralding change.

The Strategy Meet was a great learning experience for all of us. It was a demonstration of the strength of IPE Global proving that it is the dedication, passion and enthusiasm of its people that can make a difference. Each team did a brilliant job by providing insights about their respective sectors/departments, highlighted their key projects and also devised the strategy for future.

STRATEGY MEET AUGUST 2017

Talent can win games, but teamwork wins championships!IPE Global Strategy Meet held in August 2017 at the Crowne Plaza, Greater Noida was filled with energy & enthusiasm. The theme for the off-site meet was Integrate. Process. Evolve which focussed on synergising, learning and growing together as a team. MD, Ashwajit Singh welcomed all the participants and thanked them for their continuous commitment & contri-bution. The event witnessed zealous participation from the IPEans. The three day agenda comprised of presentations from corporate and sectors teams, group activities & assignments, fitness sessions etc.

INTEGRATE PROCESS EVOLVE

“It was amazing to see the kind of change that happened over the 3 days... Strangers have gone back as close friends... The limited sectoral mind set has expanded to see the big picture... Hierarchical titles have been replaced by warm smiles... Ambiguity displaced by clarity And Learning translated to enjoyment. I believe the biggest achievement of the event has been that the company’s vision has been (pleasantly) hijacked by the ambitious dreams of its team. The theme of Integrate, Process and Evolve has been lived by the team. Indeed ‘me’ has morphed to ‘we’ and the entire IPE Global group is synergised to make an even greater impact on the ground!!”

OUR VOICES

Nearing three years in IPE Global has been a very rewarding experience. The offsite in India presented me with an opportunity to understand the expectations of the organi-sation vis-a-vis our ambitious targets and strategising the “how”. It was good to interact face to face with professionals across sectors and practices and hear their perceptions on the “what” and “why”. It was good to also capture the Management’s direction towards the “where”. Overall I would say that I came back humbled by the experience of such a

talented lot, who have it in them to take the IPE’s mission and vision forward.

SUNIL VERMACountry Head - Ethiopia

The off-site meeting provided a great opportunity to get to know colleagues from other IPE offices, to find out about the very impressive work being delivered in all practice ar-eas, and working together to identify opportunities to further improve our efficiency and effectiveness. I think the single most impressive thing for me was the amount of pride and passion all colleagues clearly have in their respective areas of work …… and play!

MARTIN WRIGHTHead Grant & Fund Management, Triple Line, UK

A diverse group of IPE colleagues from all sectors and levels came together in an offsite location. Through scheduled exercises and discussions that were fun, insightful and thought provoking we were able to know each other as a wider corporate team. We were able to bond, reflect, share, innovate, strategize and grow together. It was an invaluable experience and I made many new friends.

As a new recruit to IPE I was exceptionally lucky to begin my journey in the company by attending the IPE Offsite in Greater Noida. It provided me with a clear picture of both our corporate strengths and our organisational values, as well as an insight into the challenges ahead as we embark on our next phase of growth.

I firmly believe we bring a unique offer to a rapidly changing ODA landscape, in no small measure because we combine the best in Indian and international expertise, with a growing

presence in key geographies that lie at the heart of the development agenda. This is underpinned by IPE’s strength in depth in key practice areas such as cities and infrastructure, social economic empowerment, ITEC and public fi-nancial management, as well as our core values which I think are best reflected in our entrepreneurial mind set, our commercial discipline and our emphasis on social awareness. Nonetheless there are some important challenges ahead of us, not least the ongoing effort to merge two companies into one across multiple geographies and an ever growing range of services and practices. At a time when our clients and partners expect greater value for money and increased impact, many of our competitors are grappling with similar issues. How we tackle this integration agenda will therefore be central to our ability to become the market leader in the provision of development services worldwide.

Having had this wonderful opportunity to interact with many new colleagues, I feel much better equipped to play my part in facilitating the future growth of IPE Global. I am very much looking forward to doing this in partnership with a group of colleagues who clearly share my passion and commitment to international development.

RICHARD WADDINGTONDirector – Private Sector Development, Triple Line, UK

The Strategy Meet was a great opportunity to meet IPE colleagues and develop cama-raderie, whilst allowing me to reflect on IPE Global Strategy, learn how the different sec-tors are currently evolving, and how we can improve processes and systems for greater integration of our work. The Strategy Meet was also a demonstration of the magic of IPE Global, proving that it is the dedication, passion and enthusiasm of its staff which is at the heart of its growth and success. IPE Global has brought culture and development togeth-er in a constructive way. The range of culturally diverse staff from different continents

and regions are allowing IPE to reach a global scale as well as bringing the global world to IPE. I am happy to be part of an organisation which is making an impact at the field level through embracing different cultures, innovative ways of working and achieving results from collective efforts; the need for harnessing this through building further the capacity of the staff, in particular the young generation, is critical. Finally, the Strategy Meet was a manifestation or reminder that our business growth would only be sustainable if we embed much more strongly in our programmes the values of environmental sustainability, equity and gender equality in order to make lasting impact on the lives of poor men and women and also to protect our planet.

WHAT AN IDEA!

IPE Global Digital Learning PortalThe learning portal could be used to systematically upgrade staff capacity starting from mandatory train-ings like IT, finance, policies, etc. to tailored trainings specific to sectors and practice areas and other cross cutting issues. The content of the course modules could start in a consultation process with the staff (could be sector specific) and from the experiences of other organizations.

The form of learning might be through audio, video, text, webinar followed by tests and certification. It is assumed that this form of learning has initial investment cost but will be highly cost effective in the future. Among the advantages include: • Reduce cost and time• Cutting layers – reduced bureaucracy• Ensuring compliance• Sustainability• Rapid learning• Training on demand – subject/geography/case study• Refresher programmes can be held• Strengthen capacities within internal teams

The initiative will ultimately enhance staff capacity and increase the company’s rate of winning projects.
