1.0 IntroductionLocation, sequence of services and orientation of Hose Reels are specified on building plans. Be certain installation is in agreement with these specifications. All piping, testing, and verification of services should conform to National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 99, “Standard for Health Care Facilities” and local codes where applicable. Reel mounting box must be installed before ceiling is finished.

Tools and Supplies Needed for Hose ReelInstallation• Wrenches:

2.0 Unpacking Hose Reel 1. Carefully open shipping carton and

remove contents. Verify complete contents per packing list.

2. Remove dust cover from mounting box (Figure1). Save for later use.

Figure 13. Remove two hex head anchor bolts

and washers holding reel assembly to mounting box (Figure 2).

4. Remove two acorn nuts from guide rods (Figure 2).

5. Lift reel assembly out of mounting box, sliding it up guide rods (Figure 3).

6. Reinstall anchor bolts with washers and acorn nuts on ends of guide rods in mounting box (Figure 4).

NOTE:

The following steps in this section detail how to remove the reel assembly from the mounting box (rough-in box). Installing the mounting box first may be easier, especially if the installation is performed by only one person. If the installation is performed by two people, it may not be necessary.

3.0 Mounting Box Installation

3. If gang mounting boxes, join support channels of ganged mounting boxes together as shown using 1/4-20 x 5/8 bolts, lockwashers, and nuts provided (Figure 8).

1. Construct rigid framework to support mounting box. Framework must place bottom edge of box flush with finished ceiling line (Figure 5). Figure 6 shows required rough ceiling openings and single box dimensions. Figure 7 shows required dimensions for gang mounting of boxes. This is important for proper alignment of cover plates when gang mounting several hose reel assemblies.

2. Orient mounting boxes to ensure gas service inlet tubes agree with building plans.

4. If gang mounting boxes, install (4) speed nuts onto mounting box as shown (Figure 9). Place tie plate onto mounting box as shown in Figure 10 and secure using (4) 6-32 x 1/4” screws provided.

5. Securely anchor mounting box(es) to framework installed in Step 1 of this section. Make certain box(es) are correctly oriented.

6. Connect system piping drops to corresponding copper inlet tubes.

WARNING:

It is the installer’s responsibility to verify all gas piping systems are correctly connected and tested per NFPA 99 and applicable local codes.

7. Securely install test caps on vacuum and WAGD DISS fitting of inlet tube. Pressure gas services do not require test caps.

8. Complete initial pressure tests for all pressure gas, vacuum and WAGD services per NFPA-99.

9. Install dust cover(s) on mounting box(es) to prevent dust and debris from entering box during finishing of ceiling (Figure 11).

10. Retain these instructions for use when installing reel assembly and cover plate after ceiling has been finished.

4.0 Hose Reel Installation

WARNING:

It is the installer’s responsibility to verify all gas piping systems are correctly connected and tested per NFPA 99 and applicable local codes.

1. Remove dust cover from mounting box and discard.

2. Remove acorn nuts from ends of guide rods, and anchor bolts and washers from mounting box.

3. Orient reel assembly to ensure gas labeling on reel assembly matches DISS fittings inside mounting box.

4. Align diagonal holes on base of reel assembly with guide rods, and slide reel assembly up guide rods. Hold reel assembly in place while installing two acorn nuts on end of each guide rod (Figure 12). Allow reel assembly to rest on acorn nuts (Figure 13).

Figure 14

Figure 15

5. Push reel assembly up into mounting box until it rests against top of box. Secure reel assembly to top of mounting box using two anchor bolts with lockwashers (Figure 14).

Anchor Bolt

6. Verify gas service label on hose assembly matches gas indexing of DISS valve. Connect hoses (Figure 15).

NOTE:

The following steps in this section detail how to reinstall the reel assembly if it was previously removed from the mounting box.

7. Perform Standing Pressure Test for Positive Pressure Medical Gas Piping as outlined in NFPA-99 at 20% above normal pipeline pressure. Perform Standing Vacuum Test for Vacuum System as Outlined in NFPA-99 on all Vacuum and WAGD services.

CAUTION:

Pressurization of vacuum or WAGD finish assemblies may damage swivel seals. Perform vacuum tests on these assemblies as outlined in NFPA-99, Standing Vacuum test for Vacuum System.

NOTE:

Cover plates require some assembly. Cover plate inner panel and hose guide grommets must be installed before mounting cover plate.

1. Remove cover plate assembly from shipping carton. Remove two screws holding inner panel in center of cover plate (Figure 16).

2. Extend hose(s) several feet from mounting box.

3. Route each hose-end valve and adjustment stop on hose assembly through opening in cover plate and into circular openings on each side of cover plate (Figure 17). Be certain cover plate is oriented properly to mounting box.
